Overall Experience

My mother has lived at Oaklands since June 2019, and I have been very impressed with every aspect of her care throughout her time there. The building and gardens are lovely, almost like a country house hotel, and the staff are at pains to cater to the individual preferences of all the residents. Activities are varied and imaginative, with many enjoyable social gatherings and outings including relatives (pre-covid). The food is superb, with plenty of choices, and nothing is too much trouble for the carers. My mother is happier than she has been in a long time and it is such a relief to know that she is well looked after and to be kept informed about her condition on a timely basis. I have been able to visit her regularly during the pandemic, in a covid-secure manner and when allowed by the relevant rules. In due course, I look forward to the resumption of normal contact with everyone at Oaklands, all of whom I have come to regard as extended family.

My mother is in the final stages of her life and her condition has made her mood very unpredictable. She goes from extreme sadness, anxiety, anger to happy, vague, then continued sleep. Her mental anguish has left her very distraught and desperately sad at times, more so now. But the staff, management, nurses, carers and even the cleaners have all been so considerate of my pain. Giving me caring advice and comfort when needed. Amazing nursing home. not only looking after my mum, but her relatives too.

My mother needed urgent respite care and the team at Oaklands Nursing Home could not have been more professional, supportive and caring during a very stressful time. Without their care and attention, the real source of my mother's illness would not have been identified so quickly and she would not have recovered so well without the excellent care she received from everyone.

Fantastic. Mum has been at Oaklands for 2 1/2 years. The staff are so caring in all they do for her and all the residents. It is a beautiful home with lovely grounds, and so clean and tidy. The home is second to none, just the best of all the rest. The manager and staff care about us as well, always ready to talk to us at any time, no matter how busy they are. I can come home and never do I worry about my mum. I know she is loved and cared for by all at this lovely home. Thank you all from Mum and me.

Well what can I say; an excellent home from home residence. My mother has been at Oaklands Nursing Home coming up to 5 years now and is very well cared for. She has just turned 100 years old and after two great parties to celebrate with family and friends Oaklands Nursing Home pulled all the stops out to celebrate with all her family.
The food is home cooked and very varied to suit the needs of the residents, excellent chef.

Activities is second to none, always something going on, to again suit the residents whether it be crafts, dancing, live music. All enjoyed by all including any family that visit. We all join in. All the team of carers and above really care, can't fault this home.

Mum has been a resident at Oaklands for 4 1/2 years. She reaches her 100th Birthday on February 7th 2019. The home has always been a good one, but since the home became private a couple of years ago, it has excelled itself. The staff to all relatives have become family to us. Spotlessly clean, food excellent. Care wonderful. The activities are extremely good and varied.

I have visited my brother in Oaklands Nursing Home half a dozen times in the two years that he has been there. He occupies a very pleasant, first floor, room with its own ensuite toilet facilities. The room has a pleasant view of trees and the front garden which is important when you are immobile.

I have always found the staff to be polite, friendly and helpful. It is clear that my brother likes them. He also likes the food which is provided.

At Oaklands Nursing Home the team "Care About" not just care for the residents. The house feels like home where all guests are made to feel welcome and there is always a friendly smile or hug for family members.

The management and nursing team are readily available to discuss the care plan for my mum and involve me in my mums "Health" journey. Every member of the Oaklands team from the manager to the maintenance staff treat my mum's needs on "very important" well done and thank you.

Residential home with nursing has to meet certain criteria and meet relevant rules and regulations - all of which could de-personalise and institutionalise the home, staff and residents. Oaklands Nursing Home manages to invisibly meet it's obligations while providing residents and their family and friends with a home that welcomes, dignifies and befriends. Quite an achievement!

Since mum has been at Oaklands there has been a change of management and things have improved enormously. Rooms have been redecorated and a vast improvement with staff and care given. Entertainment has been increased and residents have some form of entertainment seven days a week. I would have no hesitation in recommending Oaklands to people that have relatives who need care.

Mum has lived at Oaklands for four years. Over time, management have changed. The overall standard has improved no end. The care mum gets is excellent and she seems very happy. The activities at Oaklands are very good and the residents are all encouraged to join in. I feel very happy when I leave her here as I know she is in very good hands.

My father in law is a patient at Oaklands Nursing Home. He is 92 years old and suffers with dementia and Parkinson's disease. He is treated with dignity. He settled down quite quickly, enjoys the musicals. They provide singing exercise and the patients are very friendly to each other and one family, joining in with all activities.

The staff are very good with the patients, the food is excellent.

Oaklands has a lovely garden and sea views from a lot of windows. The present owners have replaced the windows very sympathetically and a new hairdressing room has been provided. The rooms, bedrooms, dining room, lounge, hall etc have all been decorated and new furniture provided. The food is very good. The staff are very caring and pleasant, also encouraging. The atmosphere is very nice, more like a large family home than a care home. No aromas, pleasant.

I have a therapy support dog and I visit Oaklands Nursing Home once a month for about an hour. Everybody is friendly and we are made welcome, enjoying a cup of coffee and chat. The residents are able to pat and talk to my dog which is very beneficial to them. My dog (and I) enjoy our visits.
