In my personal experience the End of life care was terrible. Staff did not know what they were doing in the week leading upto dad's end of life... Nurses with no idea and asking me what shall we do? Not even a call from the manager when my father passed offering her condolences. Sorry 1 star is to many in this case..... But I see their staff are leaving 5 star reviews to make up for it? I think the way the manager walked in to my dad's room with family and said casually "about 48 hours" and just walks out says it all zero compassion and any information that delicate should be taken somewhere private for the family to take in and away from a dying man.
Overall...... Disappointed and upset as a family? We expected more respect for a dying man.

I would not recommend this care home......

I do not recommend this home at all my husband had an awful end of life at this home. We went to see my husband on the Thursday end of June and he was shaking profusely and the sweat was pouring off him with no fans going at all he stood out from the other residents we got there l said is nobody looking out for him and the others but he stood out we had to run round getting cold flannels to put on his head then because we made a real commotion about it then they got a fan from upstairs. I was not happy about this he can't speak or do anything for himself as he was so advanced with dementia itwas so upsetting for me.
The nurses did not know what to do with him they were asking me what they should do very inexperienced l don't even know what qualifications they have.
In the end my dear husband passed away.

The carers brought trays of food to him when they put him to bed and the manager told me he is not having food as he would choke they would have feed him if l hadn't been there.

My mum was placed at Ashdown Nursing Home when her funds expired and she was turfed out of the expensive private placement she was in. How lucky were we? Both myself and my sisters only regret was that she had not been at Ashdown sooner!

Great staff, very professional, caring, clean and tidy, good food and a welcoming environment. We really enjoyed our visits, and the team really looked after my mum in her final moments. Thank you.

Mum spent her last few months at Ashdown when her private funds ran out and another setting told us we needed to move her! Thankfully she was moved to Ashdown which is not as 'snazzy' but very homely, very clean, and the staff are lovely. When she passed away at the end of Jan 26, they were so caring with me. It really helped a lot. So I want to say 'thankyou' for the lovely staff.

- Location is very conveyance by driving or traveling.
- First of all I found it most clean and very homely environment.
- Staff are so kind, polite and best is can speak different languages, which make a huge different to other than English residents.

- Rooms are well spacy, all departmental staff are very willing to help, and admin. Food is amazing, timing is so well to. Seen some of the staff spend time according to residents pace, mean no rush at all. I really appreciate every single person, great effort to make resident daily living needs meeting so well.

Overall I think Ashdown is a very well run establishment. The staff are attentive and caring and very pleasant & helpful whenever I visit allowing me flexibility in visiting times. I've been kept informed of my mothers health issues with phone calls whenever necessary. Most importantly my mother is generally very happy. Obviously the most important factor.

Dad is so well cared for at Ashdown. He is always nicely dressed and personal care is fantastic. We have visited larger homes but prefer Ashdown as it's like one big family and a special shout out to the activity dog who really makes the resident's day. The new activity person is doing a brilliant job. The summer BBQ and Christmas party are amazing. The chef is wonderful all year round.
