Caer Gwent has been exactly what our dad needed. The staff are kind, respectful and experienced and he has been made to feel very welcome. The living spaces are luxurious and comfortable, the food excellent, with plenty of choice, and the garden is lovely. There are lots of activities and events and
the atmosphere at Caer Gwent is a happy, relaxed one. My sister and I are both extremely happy with the way our Dad has settled in.

My parner's Mum moved into Caer Gwent earlier this year. The transition into a care home from her own home was understandably emotionally difficult, but the team at Caer Gwent did everything to welcome her, involve her, and introduce her to other residents and new activities. It was very impactful
to hear her tell us that, after a series of falls in her own home, she now felt "safe".
Sadly, a serious health issue meant she recently required end-of-life care. During this period, staff were (as ever) kind, caring, and professional, both to her and to the family. We had absolutely no doubt she was in the best hands, and we were thankful for the kindness that both she, and her family, were shown during this time.
Reply from Kevin Burke, Director of Care Homes and Dementia Services at Caer GwentThank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review.
We know that moving from home into a care setting can be an emotional change, so we are really pleased to hear that our team helped your partner's mum feel welcomed, included and supported to build new connections through activities and getting to know other residents. Hearing that she felt safe after her falls means a great deal to us.
We are very sorry that her health changed and that she required end-of-life care. Thank you for trusting us during such a difficult time. Providing kind, dignified and professional care for residents, and offering reassurance and support to families, is at the heart of what we do, and we are grateful that you felt she was in the best hands.

Your comments will be shared with the whole team at Caer Gwent. Thank you again for your trust and for sharing your experience.

Mum was bought in for emergency respite care due to my Dad suddenly being rushed into hospital. All of the staff took great care of her immediately. Unfortunately my Dad was on end of life care but within a week it had been arranged for him to spend his last hours with Mum which was wonderful. Since
then everybody has made sure both Mum and myself are doing well. Mum is always telling me how kind and caring everybody is. She is now well settled and has started going to some of the activities, chatting more and seems generally far happier. Thank you to everyone for everything you do. We love you all!
Reply from Kevin Burke, Director of Care Homes and Dementia Services at Caer GwentThank you so much for your heartfelt review at such a difficult time. We are very sorry for your loss and feel honoured to have supported your family so that your dad could spend his final hours with your mum. It means a great deal to hear that our team responded quickly when your mum arrived for emergency respite and that their kindness and care helped both of you feel supported. We are glad to know your mum is settling well, joining activities, chatting more and feeling happier. Your lovely words will be shared with everyone involved in her care. We are here for you and your mum and if there is anything more we can do please let us know.

I needed to arrange care for my mother after my father passed away.
We really didn't want her to ever be on her own, or to feel frightened or lonely at any time, and wanted someone to be available to care for her whenever she needed. Mum having access to 24/7 care was crucial for her wellbeing and
ongoing support, as well as for our own peace of mind. We felt that a care home could provide that level of care and support.
I visited Caer Gwent before we made a final decision, met many of the staff, and was very impressed. Everyone was friendly, polite, and it felt right straightaway. The lounges are beautifully presented, decorated, and light, bright, and welcoming. It all helped with that very difficult decision about Mum moving into care.
Whilst the transition into care can be challenging, both for a new resident and their family, my mother as been welcomed and cared for brilliantly. I can't thank you enough for the kindness and support you have shown to my mother and our family.
Reply from Kevin Burke, Director of Care Homes and Dementia Services at Caer GwentThank you so much for your heartfelt review and for sharing your experience of Caer Gwent. We understand how difficult the decision to move a loved one into care can be, especially at such an emotional time and we're truly honoured that you chose Caer Gwent to support your mother. It means a great deal to hear that you felt welcomed and reassured from the moment you visited. Our team works hard to create a homely, compassionate environment where residents feel safe, valued and cared for and we're so pleased to hear that this came through during your visit and throughout your mother's transition. We're especially touched by your comments about the 24/7 care and the impact it has had on your mother's wellbeing and your family's peace of mind. Thank you again for your kind words and trust - we will make sure your feedback is shared with the whole team. It's a privilege to support your mother and your family.

As a family we have immense praise for the care provided to our mother. We are truly thankful to all the staff for the friendship and care, both daily and nursing, shown to our mother. staff, and Caer Gwent is a truly special home.

Mum has been in this home for over two years now, and she absolutely loves it there. It has given her a new lease of life. The staff are always fantastic, friendly, and very caring. The food is great, and the chef takes the time to talk with mum to make sure the food is to her taste. There are two activities
a day so there is always something to do. I saw mum recently and as soon as I entered her room, she beamed at me and proclaimed I stroked a donkey, so they even manage to arrange animal visits. For me, I value greatly that mum is loved, happy, and looked after very well. In fact, if I could move into Caer Gwent, I would!! A big thanks to 3 staff members in particular and the whole team.

Mum was nervous and self-conscious when she moved in. She worried about fitting in and about being lost or forgotten. She need not have worried! From day one the staff have been so kind and considerate. In the first few weeks, they walked her to the dining room and back, and to any activities. They
continued until she had her bearings and had made friends. Truly discreet in how they did this, so she did not feel foolish or uncomfortable. The activities are well varied and I believe Mum is conversing and thinking more clearly as well as being happy.

My 93-year-old mother was understandably very anxious about leaving her home of 48 years to move to a care home. Six weeks later, she now regards Caer Gwent as her home and is so much happier, healthier, and carefree. The staff, without exception, are amazing - so friendly and attentive, providing real
care throughout the day and night. The home itself is bright, cheerful and very well equipped and has a lovely enclosed garden which my mother's room overlooks. The food is excellent which my mother appreciates as she retains a good appetite, is hearty, healthy, plentiful, and has lots of choices. The activities programme is so, so good, it has genuinely transformed my mother who had become housebound and had little interaction with others, she now revels in the company and variety of things to do - apparently, the time now flies by! I am so pleased with Caer Gwent, I am certain that we could not have done any better anywhere else.
Reply from Kevin Burke, Director of Care Homes and Dementia Services at Caer GwentThank you for your glowing review of Caer Gwent, which I will share with the team. It's wonderful to hear your mother has settled well, is happier, healthier, and carefree, and that you find our staff amazing, friendly, and attentive day and night. We prioritise residents' health and well-being with a regular schedule of activities like chair yoga, arts and crafts, and quizzes to suit everyone's needs. We're also proud of our nutritious and delicious food, so it's great to hear you find it excellent, hearty, healthy, and plentiful with lots of choices. It's heartening to know your mother has transformed from being housebound to enjoying the company of others and various activities. The outings have been excellent. The other residents are friendly and very pleasant. The garden is beautiful and I enjoy
walking here. There is a nest of seagulls that I am very interested in. All in all, this is a very good place.

The care and kindness my husband has been shown since moving into Caer Gwent has been outstanding. It is a very happy home with dedicated and friendly staff and carers. His needs are dealt with effortlessly and in a way that makes him feel comfortable and safe. It is a beautiful home with lovely surroundings.
When family visit they are also made to feel welcome and encouraged to be part of the family at Caer Gwent. A nurse said to me on our arrival that they are very proud of their home and this is reflected throughout. My husband has settled well and enjoys such varied food. He particularly looks forward to the tea trolley coming round with lovely tea and cake. Thank you to everyone for making your care home a lovely home for my husband.

My Mother has been at Caer Gwent for around 2 years and although in good health she needs the extra care and attention you require when you reach the age of 97.
I can relax knowing the caring staff will provide everything that is needed from day to day, particularly gardening, and the recent addition
of facilities for residents to play and look after plants was most welcome. The garden itself is a nice place to be especially with the new patio furniture.
Outside activities such as the recent visit to a nature reserve were well organised and fun.
Importantly the ability to get medical attention quickly (in-house or local surgery) is a real bonus, especially with the current state of the NHS.

From the moment of our first enquiry, the Caer Gwent team have been consistently outstanding in the level of professional care, support and facilities provided. This, coupled with the genuine family atmosphere, has far exceeded our hopes and expectations in what could be provided for my elderly, frail
mother who has great mental capacity but a failing body. It truly is a 'home from home' with nothing being overlooked by the cheerful, compassionate, friendly staff who are never rushed or seemingly overstretched. My mother has settled so well and I have nothing but admiration for the way the home is run and it's positive impact on the lives of the residents and their families.

My mother is 88 years old. She has always been fiercely independent. In October last year, she had a fall at home and ended up in hospital for six weeks. We searched for a care home and were very impressed with our initial show round with the care manager at Caer Gwent Care Home.
My mother moved in
December. Since then, my mother has really settled down and is enjoying her life at the care home. The staff have really worked hard to help her. My mother is treated with the utmost dignity and the staff really show that they care. I couldn't be happier knowing that my mum is happy and very well looked after. Thank you.

(1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
