My Mother has been at Caer Gwent for around 2 years and although in good health she needs the extra care and attention you require when you reach the age of 97.
I can relax knowing the caring staff will provide everything that is needed from day to day, particularly gardening, and the recent addition
of facilities for residents to play and look after plants was most welcome. The garden itself is a nice place to be especially with the new patio furniture.
Outside activities such as the recent visit to a nature reserve were well organised and fun.
Importantly the ability to get medical attention quickly (in-house or local surgery) is a real bonus, especially with the current state of the NHS.

From the moment of our first enquiry, the Caer Gwent team have been consistently outstanding in the level of professional care, support and facilities provided. This, coupled with the genuine family atmosphere, has far exceeded our hopes and expectations in what could be provided for my elderly, frail
mother who has great mental capacity but a failing body. It truly is a 'home from home' with nothing being overlooked by the cheerful, compassionate, friendly staff who are never rushed or seemingly overstretched. My mother has settled so well and I have nothing but admiration for the way the home is run and it's positive impact on the lives of the residents and their families.

My mother is 88 years old. She has always been fiercely independent. In October last year, she had a fall at home and ended up in hospital for six weeks. We searched for a care home and were very impressed with our initial show round with the care manager at Caer Gwent Care Home.
My mother moved in
December. Since then, my mother has really settled down and is enjoying her life at the care home. The staff have really worked hard to help her. My mother is treated with the utmost dignity and the staff really show that they care. I couldn't be happier knowing that my mum is happy and very well looked after. Thank you.

I now have peace of mind that since my mother has been at Caer Gwent Care Home she is receiving the utmost professional care from staff and management as a whole. If needed, the nursing staff are there 24/7 and any health concerns are dealt with quickly and with a caring attitude. The management is
always ready to listen and is aware of my mother's needs which can be complex. My mother says she is very happy at Caer Gwent which speaks volumes.

In the time my dad has been with Cear Gwent they have been outstanding with their care and understanding of him. They have also supported me to navigate the transition from being my dad's carer to being a son again. They are a family and make you part of that family. Their warmth, professionalism and
their willingness to go above and beyond is exceptional.
Senior leadership are incredibly approachable. You are listened to and their guidance and clarity reassures me that my dad is in safe hands. The staff across all parts of the home do the most incredible job. I have nothing but respect and admiration for what they do. Quite incredible. My dad is at end of life and can be challenging, yet they are calm and deal with every situation with respect, a smile and a can-do attitude.
Caer Gwent is a beautiful home. From the cleanliness to the quality of the meals.
I know my dad is being cared for and is safe. Thank you all.

My mum has been a resident of Caer Gwent for some time - the care she receives from the wonderful team is above and beyond. They have infinite patience and capacity for empathy. There is always a warm welcome from all staff for visiting family and the surroundings are beautifully decorated, calm and
peaceful, an oasis in a busy world. My mum has been loved and cherished and receives the most amazing care and kindness every day, always taking into account her changing needs so thoughtfully. For any relatives with loved ones needing a well-managed, real 'home from home' I can wholeheartedly recommend Caer Gwent.

Mum went into the home for respite but ended up staying. She has a lovely room, which we are slowly making hers with photos, plants and nick-nacks from home. She has settled really well and all the staff are really lovely to her and us. For an independent lady who never wanted to leave home, she now
refers to Caer Gwent as her home.

My mum has been a resident of Caer Gwent Care Home for over seven months now and she is receiving genuine and compassionate care. She has not been too well for the majority of her stay but throughout the staff have been so patient and caring. They really go the extra mile and nothing is too much trouble.
They have adapted well to her changing needs and are extremely attentive and considerate. Mum is clearly very happy in the home and loves the warm and friendly atmosphere. She particularly enjoys the many activities and is very fond of several members of the staff. Everyone seems to know her name and she just seems like one of the family. It's a pleasure to visit her and see how well she is being cared for. Thank you!

My dad has settled so quickly and so well at Caer Gwent Care Home with the excellent care provided, the staff have been brilliant. He is very much enjoying the meals, finding them very good, for example, he recently opted to have an omelette which was one of the best he had ever had. In addition, he
has made friends. The facilities are excellent. My dad has lost none of his independence and has gained so much from being there and from the amazing activities.

Mum has received excellent care and attention since moving to Caer Gwent at the beginning of September. They really welcomed her into their family. The staff are amazing and go out of their way to assist Mum with her every need. The food is varied, appetizing and well-balanced and the staff always ensure
Mum has had plenty to eat. There are daily activities which are very well coordinated and Mum enjoys taking part regularly. I feel completely at ease now when I leave Mum after a visit, knowing that she is in good hands. Many thanks to the manager and all the staff for really looking after my mum.

It was my uncle's decision to move to a care home in August 2022. From day one, he and the family were made to feel comfortable and very welcome. During the six-week initial period, my uncle became quite challenging but the wonderful staff remained kind and understanding. My uncle has now settled and,
with the support, is overcoming the difficulties he found in the change to his life. This is all thanks to the care given and shown.

Dad was a resident for seven and a half years after suffering a catastrophic illness that left him with a severe disability. Dad received excellent care. This was challenging for the staff but they always carried on. His laundry was looked after, he had a fabulous choice of food and staff were knowledgeable
about how to meet and what his particular needs were. Staff were kind, caring, empathic, supportive and welcoming.

Our mum arrived in June after having a stroke and bleed and we have been blown away by the quality of care and compassion she has received so far. All the staff are friendly and kind, not only to Mum but also to us as visiting relatives. I feel really relaxed going to visit as they are so welcoming.
They have a good amount of regular, varied activities which is great for resident interaction which is so important while there's no pressure on residents to participate if they don't want to. The home is light and airy with lovely decor and the garden area is great especially for anyone who's missing being able to get outside into their own garden. It's reassuring for us that Mum is safe and being well looked after by all staff including the nursing team while at the same time having good interaction, banter and some fun along the way.

Caer Gwent Care Home has a wonderfully warm and friendly atmosphere and my mum feels very well-loved and happy there. Her face lights up when she sees the staff, which says it all. I have complete peace of mind. She is exceptionally well cared for, especially taking into consideration her changing needs

My mother has settled into Caer Gwent very well, management and staff have made Mum feel welcome. Each member of the team is friendly, helpful and focused on ensuring Mum's needs are met and any required changes (such as after a recent room move) are swiftly made. Furnishings are of a high standard,
the rooms are well decorated and maintained. Mum's quality of life has greatly improved, she enjoys the varied activities, has made friends and is enjoying the well-cooked meals. We feel reassured that she’s happy, safe and well cared for.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.948)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.948) out of 10 for Caer Gwent is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.948 for Caer Gwent is calculated as follows: ( (239 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 250 Ratings = 4.948
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Caer Gwent is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I love the family environment at Caer Gwent and really enjoy interactions with our residents and their families. We really are one big family!

Job Title: Housekeeping Manager Joined: 2014

My name is Emma and I’m the Housekeeping Manager at Caer Gwent. I first joined Guild Care in 2014 and spent many years at Haviland House, where I took great pride in creating a clean, welcoming environment for our residents and their families. In September 2023, I was proud to take on the role of Housekeeping Manager here at Caer Gwent, following the retirement of my lovely predecessor.

I now oversee both housekeeping and maintenance, making sure everything is well looked after so our home feels safe, comfortable and cared for. What I enjoy most is supporting my team and helping to make Caer Gwent a place our residents truly enjoy calling home.
