My aunt has been in Tenchley Manor for nearly a year. It is an outstanding nursing home. The staff cannot do enough for the residents, making them feel cared for and included. The standard of food is amazing and can be tailored to individual needs. The daily cake for visitors is welcome. Having tea and cake with my aunt is the highlight of my visit. There are daily activities from crafts to potting pants. I have lots of experience of care homes, Tenchley Manor is a very special place. I would highly recommend it!

From the moment my mother was admitted to the nursing home, she was cared for as I would want to be cared for. With kindness, dignity and given time to answer any questions asked. We as a family we were kept informed of any changes in mum's condition we were also cared for by the staff. I cannot give this lovely home enough praise. It may not have all the bells and whistles. But it cares about its residents. Thank you.

My father came to Tenchley early May with very swollen (fluid retained) legs which were ulcerated and this had been going on for many many months. Within 5 days of him being at Tenchley his legs returned to normal size and he now does not have any bandages on as the open wounds have healed. We cannot thank the staff & management enough for their care and attention that our Dad has received.

My father moved to Tenchley Manor nursing home (at his request) after a brief respite stay. The staff took great care of him and kept him safe. They made every effort to make him feel welcomed and involved. A wonderful place that for the last 9 months of his life felt like his home when he had always said he would never go into a nursing home. I cannot thank or praise them enough.

Here at Tenchley we aim to make all our residents feel at home and like one of the family. Whenever a resident makes their own decision to move to a care home, it can be the most hardest decision they have to make, but we are always here to welcome them and show them that Care home life is not as scary as some people think. It has been a privilege to get to know you all. Thank you.

Staff are amazing from the cleaners to the carers to staff nurses to management, nothing is too much trouble and they all truly do care about the residents.
They provide exceptional care for my dad, and he is treated like family by all, his room is lovely and homely, cleanliness is exceptional.

There is always a friendly welcome on arrival and staff are constantly popping in to check on dad to ensure he is ok and has everything he needs.

We made the difficult decision of mum going to Tenchly Mannor when her needs become more complex. Agreeing for a parent to go in to a nursing home is one of the hardest and most upsetting times of your life.

But I can honestly say my mum is very happy at Tenchley and as a family we are so happy with the love ,lcare and respect my mum gets. We are always made to feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble for them. I have been able to return to work and find a balance knowing my mum is cared for. The managers are always assessable, nurses always around for questions or any problems and the carers are so caring and loving. Kerry is always around to cheer you up and make you smile on the hard days and the lovely cleaners keep the home spotless and my mums clothes always get returned smelling clean and fresh. The cooks are amazing and they know the patients very well. There really is nothing that the lovely hamdy man can't fix . Thanx Tenchly !

We were welcomed immediately and very warmly. The central space is very comfortable with lovely views onto the spacious garden and sea directly beyond. The all-day teas, coffee and cakes slices are a highlight! All staff are professional and very friendly - there's clearly a loving bond between the staff and my cousin. My cousin is very pleased with her large room, views, garden and overall experience. Thank you!

Lovely welcome into a clean, warm environment. We were offered refreshments while we sat at a comfortable table in the sitting room overlooking the sea. There are plenty of friendly staff members around to assist the residents, it's lovely to see that the residents obviously know them well and have good relationships with them.

I found the team at Tenchley brilliant. Everyone is not only highly professional but genuinely cares about the wellbeing and comfort of every resident. Although my mum was only at the home for 2 weeks, the team all got to know her personally and were keen to tailor support to meet her needs and preferences. Tenchley provided a happy family type environment where mum felt loved and cared for. She was treated with true kindness, dignity and respect. The carers were patient and compassionate, ensuring mum was comfortable and at ease, and the nurses outstanding. As visitors we were also looked after - made to feel comfortable and welcome, and given exceptional support as she sadly declined. The entire Tenchley team played their part - in every interaction their dedication and empathy was clearly evident. Thank you to everyone.

My first impression when I visited Tenchley Manor was that it was a homely and a happy place. All the staff were welcoming and there was fun and laughter coming from the residents in the lounge. I knew straight away that this was the environment where my husband could be happy. His working life was with boats and the sea so the wonderful garden down to the beach would be perfect for him.
The decision that my husband could no longer be safely cared for at home was hard and heartbreaking. It was a very difficult and upsetting time for us all but all the staff have been so supportive of myself and all the family. My husband moved into Tenchley Manor in June and is cared for with kindness, respect and patience. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff, they are well trained and communication between them is excellent. Real team work!
Tenchley Manor is like a big family home and I don't think I could have chosen a better place for my husband.

Grateful thanks

I wrote to the home manager after my husband died peacefully on February 21 2025.

"He came to Tenchley from hospital following surgery during Covid. We always hoped that he would eventually return home. Instead, Tenchley Manor became home from home for my husband and me and for Oaky too. He loved his room and the view over the Solent, where he could track the shipping on his Ipad.

My husband had many and complex issues all of which were addressed with expertise and concern by your staff. Always a reticent man, he grew to appreciate everyone so very much and to enjoy their care, good humour and friendship. In his last few days, he asked us to make sure that we thanked you all from him.

I will miss my visits to Tenchley Manor - it was so much part of my daily routine. And Oaky will miss his treats and naps. My family and I can't thank everyone enough for looking after Christopher. You've come to lead a wonderful place. Look after everyone and give them all our love and gratitude."

Our father moved into Tenchley Manor, Selsey, on 21st June 2024 and from that time until his passing on 27th November 2024, we cannot praise the staff enough for their dedication, gentle care and genuine kindness. They were wonderful and our father was very appreciative - as were we. Whenever possible, the staff gave a lot of time and interest to both our father and mother (who is still a resident). The management, nurses, carers, catering staff and housekeeping team were all extremely supportive to my sister, brother, myself and our parents during a difficult time and we are forever grateful to them. The consideration they had (and still have for our mother), is so much appreciated. A wonderful team and I have been singing their praises to so many people.

My mum arrived at Tenchley on the 5th September and I knew from that day I had chosen the right place for her care.
The staff are genuinely caring and I could see this in my mum's non-verbal cues when she saw them or they were giving her care. The staff took time to get to know Mum, and there was never any rush for example when taking time to feed her.
The nursing staff were very experienced in Palliative care and I had every confidence in the decisions they suggested.
On the day of her passing the staff were very attentive and made sure we as a family ate and drank. They were very respectful at all times.

We cannot thank them enough.

I remember many years ago visiting an old friend in the building, it had a different name at the time but the garden was extensive and lovely. When I was very ill in hospital I was asked, if I survived, which home I would like to go to. I didn't know the name, but I remember the garden, and here I am! How about that! The care I have received has been brilliant. I have been so lucky. The staff are caring and efficient. I couldn't ask for more.

My Mum stayed in Tenchley Manor for 2 years. She died on 20th July this year. My husband and I visited multiple times each week.
We encountered many problems over this time. One of our main concerns was the appalling communication between staff members, us, management and more importantly, the lack of communication between staff members and Mum.
The staff don't have time to spend with the residents. They are rushed and always seem short-staffed.
Some of the staff were kind, friendly and good at their jobs, and I appreciate them. Others didn't seem to have the supervision or training they so clearly needed. This was a concern.
There was a high turnover of staff in the time Mum was there. They won't keep good staff until they listen to their genuine concerns.
I would definitely not recommend Tenchley Manor to others. I do not feel that my Mum was cared for to an acceptable standard.

I felt I had a constant battle, just trying to make sure Mum was getting what she needed.
