Since mum came here in August 2024, I have been impressed and moved by the loving, caring, kind natures of the staff. I never lose sleep because Mum is here in Marriott House. The atmosphere is friendly and I enjoy coming to see Mum. Staff are always welcoming and smiling. My mum is appreciated as the

My sister is currently living in Marriott - she initially stayed for a period of respite and is now permanent. The care is of a very high standard and they try very hard to encourage her. The manager has been very supportive and keeps myself and the family informed.

The person I am visiting is very well cared for. The carers are very appropriately communicative with all persons.
They give choices at mealtimes.
Amazing place.

I brought my aunt here two years ago and I cannot fault it in any way. She has been happy, well looked after and has enjoyed the last years of her life. The staff have always been delightful both to me and to my aunt. They keep me well informed and are always so kind. They actually truly care about
their residents, a rarity these days. The food is amazing, fantastic activities and I was able to video call my aunt weekly as I was living in Portugal! All I can say is thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We have visited here for the last two years and cannot fault the care our friend has received. The staff are so friendly and kind. The lodge is always very clean and tidy. The food is always very tasty. There is always something going on and the residents always seem happy. The residents are also clean

Our 93-year-old mother moved to the residential lodge in January 2024 and since that time, we have seen great improvements in her physical health, well-being and happiness. The staff at Barchester Marriott House & Lodge maintain a professional, calm approach to their work which benefits all the residents.
The in-house chef cooks meals and all-day refreshments are delivered in healthy, sensibly sized portions, to a varied menu choice. Outdoor activities take advantage of the beautifully maintained gardens with plenty of spaces for quiet family get-togethers. Located at the old Westgate side of Chichester, it's only a short walk to the cathedral and city centre for shopping, restaurants and park visits. A gem of a care home in a fabulous location.

My mother, aged 91, was suffering from vascular dementia when she moved into Marriott House in December 2021. The management and staff immediately put our minds at rest and we knew that she would be in the best of hands. Over the next two and a half years until she passed away, she received the best
professional care combined with the utmost kindness and humour from every member of staff. As family members, we were always given the warmest of welcomes when we visited and were regularly kept up to date as to how Mother was doing.
It was comforting for the family to know that her last years were spent in such a caring environment and that she was happy and well looked after.
We have nothing but praise for Marriott House and the staff and would have no hesitation in recommending this home to anyone who is seeking the best of care for an elderly loved one.

We always get a warm welcome when we visit the in-laws at Marriott House.
The house and grounds always look good.
The carers do a fantastic job caring for everyone.
We have eaten a couple of times at the house too, was really lovely.

Had an anniversary lunch for Mum and Dad with eight people which was very nice. Very friendly and helpful staff. We sat outside afterwards in the lovely weather and beautiful setting looking at the cathedral.

Following a bad fall, my 90 year old mother was admitted for respite care. We chose Barchester Marriott House and Lodge because we immediately felt the real focus on the care of the resident given by our initial meeting with the general manager and administration manager. Three weeks in we are seeing
a real improvement in Mum's recovery and could not be more pleased with the care and attention shown to Mum and all the other residents we see on our visits to the home. It takes real skill and dedication to manage a care home and we have found the general manager to be excellent in all aspects of the home, a really great team, also well supported by the administration manager who has years of experience and really cares.

I cannot describe how appreciative I am for the amazing treatment my mum received during the last couple of months of her life.
She was treated with pure dignity and respect, and I was welcomed every day, being looked after just as much as she was.
If it wasn't for the manager and the great team
at Marriot House, my mum's end-of-life care would've been something I can't even think about.
The honesty and integrity showed, not only with my mum but with all the residents.
It didn't feel clinical and felt like home.
The support I received all the way through was amazing. They were with me through all the emotional roller coaster.
I will be forever grateful.

My father spent the last four months of his life at Barchester Marriott House & Lodge. He passed away this week. There are not enough superlatives to express the quality of care I witnessed. Staff were so kind to Dad, going the extra mile/above and beyond on numerous occasions. He told me every visit
that he felt cared for and safe. Every member of staff from housekeeping, named nurses to health care assistants treated my father with dignity and compassion. We felt supported as a family when Dad passed. The general manager leads by example and has a first-class team who seem to enjoy coming to work - camaraderie amongst staff was palpable. The human touch was evident on so many occasions with a warm welcoming smile or a hug as Dad became more frail.


I believe Marriott House is an exemplar in so many aspects from quality of care to supporting relatives. Thank you all for making my dad’s stay as comfortable as possible.

Terence Blackshaw-May

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2024

I have been working at Barchester since October 2024 as a Regional Clinical Development Nurse, and I was recently promoted to General Manager at Marriott’s House & Lodge. I started my career as a carer in 2009 and later trained as a nurse, qualifying in 2013. My first role was with the NHS, where I began in elderly assessment and fractured neck of femur care before progressing to intensive care.


In addition to my work with the NHS, I have experience as a clinical specialist, supporting clinical trials and innovative products. I also spent some time working on evacuations and repatriations within the travel industry. Before joining Barchester, I held the position of Clinical Service Manager for a leading international insurer, where I managed a team that catered to members' complex care needs in the UK and Europe.


I currently live in Pagham, which is close to Marriott’s, with my wife and son. In my free time, I enjoy walking, travelling, and pursuing my passion for photography.

Hello, my name is Mark Anthony Serrano, and I am the Senior nurse at Marriott and Lodge, I have over 16 years of nursing experience including working for the NHS.

Through completing care qualifications, I progressed to Senior Care Assistant and, more recently, I have also adopted the responsibilities of a Care Practitioner as well. I have also been involved in activities within the home and have led the Activities Team for many years. I have completed many training courses through the Barchester Healthcare Training Academy, which have further enhanced my skills in a range of areas, including, care, activities and providing training. I now share my time between being a Care Practitioner and leading the Activities Team.


Leading the Activities Team means that I work with a group of staff and volunteers to provide activities for the residents that help to keep them active and stimulated. My duties include planning events for residents and their families, organising day-to-day activities, arranging outings, and offering residents that very crucial one-to-one time. I work closely with local groups, meaning that Marriott House & Lodge remains a key part of the local community with regular visitors who offer support to families and friends.


I am currently enjoying the role of Administrator. A job role I have been involved with for many years.


I am very much involved in the ‘whole home approach’ regarding the care we provide as a care home; my hands-on approach allows me to work closely with all members of the team and help them to develop their skills.


Dignity in care is a particular area that I am always keen to promote within the home and I believe that we can all enhance the lives of residents.

Hi my name is Kate, I am a Care Practitioner here at Marriott House and Lodge. I have worked at Marriott House for over 20 years and in that time I have worked my way up from a carer to the care practitioner role.


The Barchester Training Academy has helped me further my career; I completed my NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care with them and I am also a qualified NVQ assessor.


I support the nurses here to ensure that care is delivered with dignity and respect, putting our residents at the centre of the support that we provide, with a guarantee that they can continue to live their lives in the way they wish.


I am also the speak-up champion for the home I act as a voice for colleagues to express their ideas, and develop new ways of working and a pathway for them to report concerns. I regularly meet with the manager to discuss the running of the home from the colleague's perspective.
