My 100-year-old strongly independent mother spent six weeks here after injuring her leg in an accident and being made immobile. She entered the home somewhat hesitantly, as were we as a family, not having experience with a care home before. Mum was immediately made very welcome by the friendly staff
and soon settled in; she enjoyed the interaction with all the staff who made time to chat with her and treated her as a valued individual.
As a family, the management team and the staff were very approachable and helpful giving us confidence that Mum would be in safe hands, as indeed it proved as after six weeks Mum was sufficiently recovered and confident enough to return home where she continues to recover and improve.
Mum had previously always asked us to never put her in a home, but after this experience, she has decided that if she is no longer able to fend for herself in the future she would be content to return here permanently.
Reply from Nikki Culleton, General Manager at Barchester Marriott House & LodgeThank you for your kind words, I will pass them on to the staff team. We are pleased that Mum had an enjoyable stay. It was a pleasure to care for her and we miss her. We hope she continues to improve and is welcome back any time.
Best Wishes, Nikki and the team.

My father arrived on 28th September 22, It was a hard decision to make by when I had a talk with the management my mind has been out to rest. I was shown around and introduced to the nurses etc. My father hasn't stopped praising about how professional all the staff are and very friendly they are, that
much he has decided to stay an extra week.
Reply from Berni Martin, CRM at Barchester Marriott House & LodgeThank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review - we always try and deliver excellent service and care to our residents; I will let the team know about your review as it is always nice to receive positive feedback. The Marriott came to my dad's rescue. I called the manager to ask if she had a room for my dad. He was in a home where he was unhappy she listened to me and I feel immediately that she understood. She assessed my dad the very next day. He has been here a month now. He is so well cared for. All the staff
are professional and caring. Everyone you speak to has time for you. A special thank you the manager and her team. I feel secure in the knowledge my dad is getting the very best care.

My mother moved to the Barchester Marriott House & Lodge in July, initially for a month's respite care. Her room is a good size and always kept clean and tidy. The food is very good with high quality and wide-ranging menu - the kitchen is also happy to provide alternative meals if required. All the
caring staff are excellent - very professional and caring and take an active interest in my mother's well-being and personal needs. The management team is also very open and friendly and happy to share information and advice with us as a family.

My father has received excellent care during his respite stay at Marriorr House. The staff are friendly and attentive and are at the heart of the warm and relaxing atmosphere. The food is delicious. There are excellent coffee and tea-making facilities for visitors and I have always been made to feel
welcome. The jubilee celebrations were fantastic and other activities are organised to inform and entertain residents. I highly recommend Barchester Marriott House

All the staff were lovely and very helpful. Mum's room was very pleasant, light, bright and airy. My only criticism is the food was variable and often cold but I understand the complications regarding serving meals. Would highly recommend this home.

My mother was discharged from the hospital and is currently receiving convalescent care.
Her room is a nice size and always kept clean and tidy. Laundry services are prompt and very thorough.
The staff are caring and professional and take a real interest in my mother's well-being, both physical and
mental. They are quick to pick up on any signs that she is not feeling 100% and action on this is prompt.
There is also a good range of activities to keep her engaged with others, which is very important.
The management staff have been a great source of information and help, as this is the first encounter we have had with care homes; we are very grateful for the time and effort they have put in on our behalf.
The public areas are always clean and well kept, including the gardens, which are nice to sit out in.
The meals may be taken either in the resident's rooms or in the restaurant, which is a light and airy area and always looks smart when prepared for meals.

We have only had six weeks' experience, but so far, have found management, staff, care and facilities very good. The range of activities is good, food, both quality and choice, very good. One or two small maintenance issues have been dealt with promptly. Overall, very satisfied with the service. Management
and admin staff have been exceptional.

I was discharged from the hospital where I had been for almost a month after being knocked off my bike by a car which hit me from behind. The Marriott was recommended by a neighbour whose husband had much appreciated his time there. For me, it was an excellent halfway house between hospital and home
with the 24-hour availability of trained medical staff, very much what I needed to help rebuild my confidence. Not everything was perfect, but I feel it would be pretty and small-minded to mention minor details. The Marriott's overriding asset is its staff, whose dedication, patience and commitment are deserving of the highest praise.

Mum has been a resident at Marriott House for almost 3-years now, and we are very pleased with the level of care she gets. The staff are all magnificent - always willing to help, and nothing is too much trouble. All very friendly with lots of smiles! The communal lounges and dining room are nicely decorated.
The location is perfect, being a 5/10 minute walk into Chichester town centre. We would definitely recommend Marriott House as a safe, reliable and friendly care home for your loved ones.

Extremely friendly staff, nothing is ever too much trouble. Always happy to put us through to my mother as my siblings and I live across the globe so rely on phone calls and Skype calls. My mother settled very well once isolation was over. Staff are very friendly and we had peace of mind that my mother
was being very well looked after.

The care my sister received was very good, despite the fact that she was not very cooperative and didn't want to be there. The staff were very caring and having to work during covid lockdown were always ready to discuss her health with me and to help me in my request to make her stay as smooth as I
could. She was suffering with some problems and I commend the staff on her stay.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.704)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.704) out of 10 for Barchester Marriott House & Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.704 for Barchester Marriott House & Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (210 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 257 Ratings = 4.704
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Marriott House & Lodge is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 95 registered maximum number of service users is 19, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2024

I have been working at Barchester since October 2024 as a Regional Clinical Development Nurse, and I was recently promoted to General Manager at Marriott’s House & Lodge. I started my career as a carer in 2009 and later trained as a nurse, qualifying in 2013. My first role was with the NHS, where I began in elderly assessment and fractured neck of femur care before progressing to intensive care.

In addition to my work with the NHS, I have experience as a clinical specialist, supporting clinical trials and innovative products. I also spent some time working on evacuations and repatriations within the travel industry. Before joining Barchester, I held the position of Clinical Service Manager for a leading international insurer, where I managed a team that catered to members' complex care needs in the UK and Europe.

I currently live in Pagham, which is close to Marriott’s, with my wife and son. In my free time, I enjoy walking, travelling, and pursuing my passion for photography.

Job Title: Administrator/Well-being Champion Joined: 2000

I have worked at Marriott House and Lodge for over 18 years in a variety of roles.

I began my Barchester journey as a Night Care Assistant in 2000. Through completing care qualifications, I progressed to Senior Care Assistant and, more recently, I have also adopted the responsibilities of a Care Practitioner as well. I have also been involved in activities within the home and have led the Activities Team for many years. I have completed many training courses through the Barchester Healthcare Training Academy, which have further enhanced my skills in a range of areas, including, care, activities and providing training. I now share my time between being a Care Practitioner and leading the Activities Team.

Leading the Activities Team means that I work with a group of staff and volunteers to provide activities for the residents that help to keep them active and stimulated. My duties include planning events for residents and their families, organising day-to-day activities, arranging outings, and offering residents that very crucial one-to-one time. I work closely with local groups, meaning that Marriott House & Lodge remains a key part of the local community with regular visitors who offer support to families and friends.

I am currently enjoying the role of Administrator. A job role I have been involved with for many years.

I am very much involved in the ‘whole home approach’ regarding the care we provide as a care home; my hands-on approach allows me to work closely with all members of the team and help them to develop their skills.

Dignity in care is a particular area that I am always keen to promote within the home and I believe that we can all enhance the lives of residents.

Hi my name is Kate, I am a Care Practitioner here at Marriott House and Lodge. I have worked at Marriott House for over 20 years and in that time I have worked my way up from a carer to the care practitioner role.

The Barchester Training Academy has helped me further my career; I completed my NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care with them and I am also a qualified NVQ assessor.

I support the nurses here to ensure that care is delivered with dignity and respect, putting our residents at the centre of the support that we provide, with a guarantee that they can continue to live their lives in the way they wish.

I am also the speak-up champion for the home I act as a voice for colleagues to express their ideas, and develop new ways of working and a pathway for them to report concerns. I regularly meet with the manager to discuss the running of the home from the colleague's perspective.
