Had an anniversary lunch for Mum and Dad with eight people which was very nice. Very friendly and helpful staff. We sat outside afterwards in the lovely weather and beautiful setting looking at the cathedral.

Following a bad fall, my 90 year old mother was admitted for respite care. We chose Barchester Marriott House and Lodge because we immediately felt the real focus on the care of the resident given by our initial meeting with the general manager and administration manager. Three weeks in we are seeing
a real improvement in Mum's recovery and could not be more pleased with the care and attention shown to Mum and all the other residents we see on our visits to the home. It takes real skill and dedication to manage a care home and we have found the general manager to be excellent in all aspects of the home, a really great team, also well supported by the administration manager who has years of experience and really cares.
Reply from Nikki Culleton, General Manager at Barchester Marriott House & LodgeGood morning, thank you for your lovely review. It is a pleasure to support Mum with her recovery. I will ensure this review is shared with all the staff. Best wishes, Nikki.

I cannot describe how appreciative I am for the amazing treatment my mum received during the last couple of months of her life.
She was treated with pure dignity and respect, and I was welcomed every day, being looked after just as much as she was.
If it wasn't for the manager and the great team
at Marriot House, my mum's end-of-life care would've been something I can't even think about.
The honesty and integrity showed, not only with my mum but with all the residents.
It didn't feel clinical and felt like home.
The support I received all the way through was amazing. They were with me through all the emotional roller coaster.
I will be forever grateful.
Reply from Nikki Culleton, General Manager at Barchester Marriott House & LodgeThank you for your lovely review; it was our pleasure to care for your Mum in the last months of her life. Mum was a special individual and is sadly missed by us all. I will ensure your comments are passed on to the whole team. Sending you all our love from all of us at Marriott House and Lodge.

My father spent the last four months of his life at Barchester Marriott House & Lodge. He passed away this week. There are not enough superlatives to express the quality of care I witnessed. Staff were so kind to Dad, going the extra mile/above and beyond on numerous occasions. He told me every visit
that he felt cared for and safe. Every member of staff from housekeeping, named nurses to health care assistants treated my father with dignity and compassion. We felt supported as a family when Dad passed. The general manager leads by example and has a first-class team who seem to enjoy coming to work - camaraderie amongst staff was palpable. The human touch was evident on so many occasions with a warm welcoming smile or a hug as Dad became more frail.

I believe Marriott House is an exemplar in so many aspects from quality of care to supporting relatives. Thank you all for making my dad’s stay as comfortable as possible.

Thank you for a fun and entertaining afternoon at the ' Hobby Horse Ascot Race Meet', which we were invited to attend with Mum. It was lovely to see so many of the residents spectating all around the course, waving flags and encouraging riders in each of the races. The staff were a real credit and great
sports, participating in their own right and assisting residents who were up for joining in. Cups of tea followed and a sing song too. What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon, how lucky your residents are.
Reply from Nikki Culleton, General Manager at Barchester Marriott House & LodgeThank you for your lovely review, we are so pleased that you enjoyed our 'hobby horse racing' afternoon, it was lots of fun and just one of the amazing events that the team arranges. The staff at Marriott House & Lodge organised a great 100th birthday party for my mum who has only been a resident for a few months. Great cake and entertainment. Despite understandable reluctance to move to a care home, my mum seems very happy with her new surroundings, friends and caring staff.

I was very pleased with everything. I hope to have another week's respite, this time in the Lodge. My former university students will tell you that I was a hard grader-although there were never any complaints about my grades. As you didn't have a 'very good' category, I had to grade most of your areas
as good.
For much of my professional life, I have been in international organisations. I taught in Nigeria for many years. Later I had many international students and I made professional visits to Asia. I did enjoy briefly talking to some of your staff-all born after I had visited their countries. I am very much an internationalist and this aspect of my stay suited me very well. I have lived alone since 2008 when my wife moved to an EMI care home with Alzheimers. My friends and most of the staff I spoke to in Marriott House, think it is too soon for me to become a resident. Although 94, I am still very active mentally, but I am having increasing mobility problems and some tasks are much more difficult and tiring.
Reply from Nikki Culleton, General Manager at Barchester Marriott House & LodgeThank you for your lovely review, we are pleased you enjoyed your respite stay and we hope to see you again in the future. Please feel free to pop in anytime to see us. With best wishes from the manager and the team at Marriott House and Lodge.

We had looked at a number of care homes in February/March of 2023. We were very impressed with the excellent range of provisions at Marriott House & Lodge and decided upon a placement for my late father for his ongoing care. Sadly my father passed away before he could join the Barchester family but
my mum proceeded to enjoy a week's respite here immediately following his passing. She was exceptionally well cared for at a most painful and vulnerable time. I cannot thank you all enough. We will be back!

Seven months ago I was faced with finding a care home place for my dad at short notice - a difficult task to get right. I am so glad I found Marriott House which has proved to be a safe, comfortable and well-managed home for him. The food is excellent and the staff are hard-working and caring. When
I asked him just now for one word to describe Marriott House he said "friendly" with a smile on his face!

My mother was in Marriott House for nearly five years. She reached the age of 102 there. I am very grateful to all the staff for always being cheerful and helpful; however, difficult things were, especially over the pandemic. It was great that Marriott House looked after Mum for so long when she had
been unable to settle in three previous care homes.

It is difficult to choose a care home. My advice would be to talk to the staff, and any visiting relatives, if you can. And put less weight on facilities and rooms. That said my mother's room was great, with a view of Chichester Cathedral. Living in London, the location of Marriott House was very convenient, being close to the station and the town centre.
Thank you, everyone!

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.704)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.704) out of 10 for Barchester Marriott House & Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.704 for Barchester Marriott House & Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (210 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 257 Ratings = 4.704
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Marriott House & Lodge is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 95 registered maximum number of service users is 19, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Leading the Activities Team means that I work with a group of staff and volunteers to provide activities for the residents that help to keep them active and stimulated. My duties include planning events for residents and their families, organising day-to-day activities, arranging outings, and offering residents that very crucial one-to-one time. I work closely with local groups, meaning that Marriott House & Lodge remains a key part of the local community with regular visitors who offer support to families and friends.

I am currently enjoying the role of Administrator. A job role I have been involved with for many years.

I am very much involved in the ‘whole home approach’ regarding the care we provide as a care home; my hands-on approach allows me to work closely with all members of the team and help them to develop their skills.

Dignity in care is a particular area that I am always keen to promote within the home and I believe that we can all enhance the lives of residents.
