Hunters Down is a purpose-built care home, providing nursing and residential person-centred care to adults aged 65 and over including those living with dementia. The home is situated in Huntingdon and offers long term and respite care.

Hunters Down is divided into five units over two floors. Four units are equipped with their own communal lounge, dining area, kitchenette and bathroom facilities, while the fifth unit is a purpose-built unit with luxury suites built with its own private courtyard, a communal lounge and kitchen.

All bedrooms are single occupancy with en-suite facilities.
Other facilities at Hunters Down include a café, a hairdressing salon, a cinema room and a guest bedroom.

From the very first day my mother in law moved into Hunters Down Care Home the care, understanding, kindness and friendliness of everyone who works there is wonderful. Always there to talk to, we have made so many friends we couldn't have put her in a better place. There has been a lot of changes to
her health in the time she's been there. All staff have been very supportive and understanding always keeping us up to date with everything. If anyone is anxious about putting their loved ones in this home have no worries. The care is first class, the manager is a first-class manager, and easy to talk to.

My mum went into care at Hunters Down earlier this year with dementia and I have to say it was the best move for her. She had been sad for a very long time but within 2 months of going into Hunters Down I saw the spark back in her eyes and a smile on her face. She said it’s like being in a hotel on
holiday and they spoil her rotten. The staff are wonderful with her ups and downs and don’t just care for my mum but also care for me when I visit her on one of her bad days and it helps tremendously to see her enjoying singing with the other residents on their social media every week.

My dad came to Hunters Down after spending 4 months in a different care home which he was placed in straight from hospital. The change in him is amazing, he looks so much better and happier. The home has far more going on than his previous one and all the staff have been so helpful and kind in settling
him in. Nothing is too much trouble and there is always a calm, well-managed atmosphere around the home whenever we visit.

The home was opened some weeks ago and I am very grateful that I can now see my wife daily albeit for only an hour. I hope this time will be extended in due course if the pandemic allows. Management has assured me that the current hour visit is in the best interests of the residents so I am content
with a little being better than nothing. On the subject of management, I have some sympathy with the fact that she and the pandemic arrived almost simultaneously. She is easy to communicate with and listens to niggling problems e.g. I have reservations about one maybe two members of staff. In this respect, she advised I should contact her immediately.

My aunt moved in 3 months ago and despite this awful pandemic the home has gone above and beyond to help settle her in and facilitate our visits.
We should have made the move a year or so ago as we have never seen her happier.
She is enjoying doing things i never thought in a month of sunday's she
would enjoy.

My mother is suffering with Alzheimer’s and in early 2020 her symptoms deteriorated, seemingly exacerbated by the lockdown in March. As a family, we reached the sad conclusion that with her decline, my father was unable to continue caring for her alone and at home.
We found Hunters Down by chance,
but the location and that they had capacity to accommodate my mother were real positives. They couldn’t have been more helpful in facilitating the move for my mother and were thoughtful and sensitive to the needs of both my mother and father.
Almost one year on, we feel so lucky to have found Hunters Down. My mother is happy and well, and so very well cared for. The whole team at Hunters Down are wonderful and I’m incredibly grateful that we’ve found such a kind, thoughtful and loving environment. It’s heartbreaking that my mother’s illness has prevented my parents spending their latter years together, but I really do think we’ve found a wonderful home for my mother.

My Dad was moved from hospital at the start of June. He was very poorly and suffered with Alzheimer’s. We were on Pepys ward and from our 1st day the staff were just so friendly and welcoming. Dads room was clean, bright and comfortable. Sadly my Dad deteriorated quite quickly and after only a week
he was on palliative care. We were at the home for 6+ hours a day. The staff checked Dad every 15 minutes, made sure he was clean and comfortable and changed his position hourly. They spoke with us openly and honestly and we felt prepared for what was to come.
On the day he passed away the nurses and care assistants were unbelievably kind and supportive and I am just so glad he was here at Hunters Down where he was treated with the utmost dignity and care. After he passed and we returned to collect his bits, all the staff hugged us and took the time to talk to us and make sure we were ok. I can’t recommend this care home enough, just brilliant!

As soon as Dad was unpacked he felt safe. He loved the staff and always enjoyed chatting and having a joke. His needs were catered for and everyone made him feel comfortable, happy and relaxed. The concern for Dad, by the staff, when he quickly went downhill was lovely and I know they shared our desperate
sadness when he passed away. Hunters Down also showed the same care, love and compassion for my Mum, who died in 2012, who suffered with Alzheimer's.

Myrna became Care Manager at Hunters Down in May 2013 but joined Hunters Down in 2010 as a Clinical Nurse Manager.
Myrna is a qualified Nurse and has worked as a General Nurse in hospitals and the community.
Myrna is responsible for the care delivered in the home and running of the home in the absence of the General Manager.
