Our mum was a resident in Hassingham House Care Home for 41/2 years. For 31/2 of those mum was very settled there until the Manager retired and her Assistant Manager, shortly left after her. With the management changes sadly many permanent, experienced qualified staff left, this resulted in more agency
staff being employed to fill the void. The head chef also left the home & the food choices became very minimal. They relied primarily on pre-prepared packaged food which unfortunately didn't suit mum's Medical Conditions. She was often given the wrong food which also aggravated her condition. Due to this & other issues regarding severe safe guarding, unexplained bruising to mum's forehead & two conflicting explanations to bruising to mum's leg, general cleanliness of her room and bathroom (which were not addressed by the management). We had no other option than to move mum at very short notice to another Nursing Home in Norwich where she sadly passed away.
Reply from Melanie Wightman, Regional Operations Manager at Hassingham House Care CentreThank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry that your family's experience did not meet expectations. The concerns raised at the time were investigated in line with our safeguarding and governance procedures, and appropriate action was taken where improvements were identified. Since then, there have been significant changes within the home, including strengthened management oversight, improved staffing stability, and enhanced quality assurance processes to ensure high standards of safety, dignity, and care.

My husband was in Hassingham for two weeks respite last July and again in January. He was looked after so well, all staff are so kind, friendly, helpful and go out of their way to meet residents needs. He settled into life there well. They all put my mind at rest that I was doing the right thing
getting respite. I have no hesitation if the need arises putting him into Hassingham again. Thank you to each and everyone of the staff.

My father arrived a Hassingham House due to a fall in another home on end of life care and we weren't expecting him to last 24 hours. That was 30 months ago!
All the staff have looked after him with dignity and care, nursing him back to health, extending his life and allowing us to spend more time
with him than we ever expected.
Care has been excellent, the people who work there really make the place a home, definitely recommend it.

My wife initially came here on respite but we realised after just a couple of weeks that Hassingham House was the place she needed to be.
The biggest factor for me is the staff and the fact that they really do care about the residents. That's not just the care and nursing staff, but also the housekeeping
team, the kitchen team and the management. They also seem to care about us as residents family members and I have always had a warm, caring and friendly welcome and feel listened to when I have any comments about my wife's care to make.
Whilst it was the most difficult thing I've done to put my wife into full-time care after caring for her myself became too difficult, I now rest assured that she is well looked after and in the best place to meet all her needs with her young onset dementia.

I recently visited a friend who lives at Hassingham House in Hingham, UK, and I was genuinely impressed by the level of care I witnessed. The staff were warm, attentive, and clearly dedicated to making residents feel comfortable and respected. It was especially nice to see that my friend had real choice
in what he wanted to eat, which made the environment feel much more personal and homely. Overall, it was a very positive experience and reassuring to know that my friend is being so well cared for.

Thank you so much for the care and attention which you provided for the celebration of my parents' 70th wedding anniversary, including a truly splendid buffet and drinks and glasses. The cake was indeed moist and decorated beautifully. You went to a great deal of trouble, which we very much appreciated
as a family. You made my parents' day one to remember. Thank you so much,

My husband was placed in Hassingham for end of life care. Whilst this situation is not a good one for either resident or relatives, our family felt that he was given the utmost care and respect until his final moments. When he could eat, he was surprised by the excellent menu on offer. Even the young
carers seem to have been given excellent training, the nursing staff were fully conversant with everything that could be done to ease any pain and is was especially struck by the fact that all of the staff took time to speak with the family when we were struggling. I only gave the rooms a 4* rating because even though they are quite spacious, they could probably do with a little upgrade and my husband could not use and activities because of his poor health. However, I would always prioritise excellent care over a slightly dated room so would recommend to anyone needing such a service.

My daughter has been in Hassingham House since January 2024. I've always felt very welcome and like a part of the family when I go in.
They have recently hired a chef who is amazing, & a new hairdresser. The activities are very good & important for the residents.
The carers & nurses are very easy
to approach & do a great job.
The management has recently been replaced and things seem to be working out well there too.
All in all, Hassingham House is highly recommended by me!

Mum moved to Hassingham House in April 2024. She had always said that she didn't want to be in a care home and had been looked after by an excellent live-in carer. As her Alzheimer's progressed, we felt that it was the right time to look at a care home. My sisters and I were all worried about the transition
but as Mum walked into the care home for the first time, there was a very happy group of staff waiting to welcome her, including the manager, who gave Mum a hug (maybe it was the other way round!).
We are so lucky to know that Mum has settled in well, is content, very well cared for, and safe.
All the staff - managers, admin, carers, cleaning staff, etc. are fantastic and their caring nature and empathy show through constantly. They are so kind and attentive and always on hand to help in any way they can. Nothing is too much trouble. I always feel welcome when I visit and am so grateful for everything that they do. I can't praise them enough.

My brother spent the last few months of his life at Hassingham. The staff there were amazing. Especially his keyworker. She was incredible and we as a family are so grateful to her for her dedication and care of my brother. She really went above and beyond in her care and I know my brother loved and
appreciated her. Hassingham has a lovely atmosphere when you walk in, the gardens are beautiful. All of the staff are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

My sister moved into Hassingham House on the 29th January. She was immediately made welcome by the staff. Everyone is so friendly. The home itself is lovely, clean, and feels so homely and inviting. She has made some lovely friends already, with both the staff and the other residents. She is so much
happier here already than she was at her last home of 6 years. Having visited her, I was also made to feel so welcome. All the staff go above and beyond. It really is a fantastic home and I wish my sister many happy years here. We as a family cannot fault this home at all, it's amazing.

Our mother has been in Hassingham House for eight months now and we are delighted with the care and support she is receiving; from the management team all the way through to the nurses and carers. There is a real sense of family the moment you step through the door, you are so welcomed and it is very
easy to see how happy all the residents and staff are. We tried 3 other homes before finding Hassingham and it is without a doubt, the best we could have possibly hoped for our dear mum. The recent summer fete was a huge success and a lovely fun day for all. We are always encouraged to visit as often as we like and to participate in the events they have planned throughout the year. We cannot recommend Hassingham House enough, nor praise it enough. Absolutely first class.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.303) out of 10 for Hassingham House Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.453 for Hassingham House Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (116 Excellents x 5) + (42 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 172 Ratings = 4.453
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hassingham House Care Centre is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
