As a family we want to say a massive thank you to all the staff for the care, compassion and kindness shown by all.
The cleanliness of the home, Mum's room was all 5 star, as was the food.

When Mum first arrived at the home, it was brilliant. Sadly, after some shocking managers and a massive change of staff, the home became truly awful. Luckily, since the latest manager arrived in January, I can see that everything is picking up. There is still a way to go, but they are getting there.

I'm really pleased with the care he has, although I do find I have to shave him sometimes, clean and cut his nails. Carers seem to use shower soap too much. Don't always brush his teeth before putting them in to soak.

We have just had a care plan review and a lot of issues were raised like correct relationship to resident, medication, safe guarding, we understand the home has now take on 2 new manager/assistant manager and they are going to increase training for staff, record keeping and this all sound encouraging.
We are happy with the home and our relation seem happy there.
Reply from Stuart Gollands, Operations Manager at Heron Lodge Nursing Home

Following the appointment of our new management it has supported them to be able to offer the most person centred approach to resident care and continue staff training and development. We would like to clarify that no safeguarding or medication errors were identified during the review. In the short time my dad was in the care home, we found everyone very caring and helpful from management to care staff etc. The room was moved around to accommodate his needs. No request was too big, even trying to make meals they wouldn't normally make to ensure he had something he would eat. Everyone
did their best to make it feel like his home and as a family we were always welcome whatever time of the day. Not only was Dad offered food and drink, whenever we would visit, someone would also come and offer us something too. If the time came that Dad has to go back into a home, this would be top choice.

The friendly greeting I received when I came to visit told me that this was the place for mum to receive end of life care and nothing since has challenged this view. Everyone (clinical and non-clinical) has been so caring, with nothing being too much trouble. All have taken time to know her as an individual
and to personalise their care. Her nursing care has been excellent too and she has enjoyed the food. Her room is lovely. All the staff have also been very extremely kind to her family so we feel very well supported too. I can’t think of a better place for her to be.

The initial tour of Heron Lodge was helpful, informative and reassuring. the staff were very welcoming and went to a great deal of trouble, to settle my frail father into his new surroundings.
The care he then received was personalised with close attention to detail. Relatives and visitor were made
to feel welcome at all hours.
When my father passed away the news was delivered sympathetically. The arrangements proceeded seamlessly with the undertakers.
My father was very fortunate to be able to spend his final days at Heron Lodge.

After viewing several homes, Heron Lodge stood out, why? The cleanliness and freshness was the first thing that I noticed, then on meeting the staff, they are so genuine and friendly and made us feel so at ease and reassured us we were making the right choice. By the way, the homecooked food is so lovely
too. No one wants to go in a home but for Mum's respite, we would not hesitate if Mu, needed respite or full-time care in the future.

My mother has lived at Heron Lodge for three years now. The care she receives is excellent. Staff are so kind and treat her with dignity and with the upmost care. She receives the best nursing care and although she is no longer able to participate in activities with the other residents in the lounge,
she has regular staff members checking on her, spending time with her and making sure she has her favourite music playing. The smaller size of the home makes it feel like a family home and relatives are made welcome and kept informed of any changes/updates of care plans etc. The professionalism and dedication shown by the manager and her team (especially during covid) gives us constant reassurance that our loved ones are safe and loved.

Firstly, a note about my mother who died in February 2022. She had been a resident at Heron Lodge for 5 years and was 99 on her death. The whole staff of Heron Lodge looked after her superbly and were very sensitive and helpful at the time of her death. I felt supported and my mother respected and treated
with dignity all through this time. My aunt has been at Heron Lodge for nearly 3 years and is still telling me when I visit how much she thinks of the place as a home and how much she 'gets on' with all the staff. She is 97 and chooses to stay mainly in her room but that does not minimise the care and company she receives. In my opinion, the leadership at Heron Lodge is key to this being a very successful and restful place for its residents and the values of the management are shared by the brilliant staff the Home employs. Five years ago, when I found Heron Lodge for my mother and subsequently obtained a place for my aunt, I knew I have found a gem in the care system. Thank you.

It's a lovely nursing home. The staff are always welcoming and take very good care of their relatives. You can see that they really care for their people who they are looking after. Our Mum spent the last few months of her life at Heron Lodge, receiving palliative and end of life care. From the moment she arrived from hospital, Mum was made to feel welcome and comfortable and all of her family were welcomed too. We were able to visit Mum whenever we could and this gave us extra
special times with her. Mum received quality nursing care and the staff were caring and kind. Heron Lodge is extremely well managed and this shows in the skills, teamwork, friendliness and commitment shown by the staff. We were supported during Mum's final few days, especially my sister who visited daily and was kept in the loop at all times. Mum was treated with the dignity she so deserved and we will always be grateful for that. Thank you to everyone at Heron Lodge.

My father spent the last few months of his life at Heron Lodge. This home has an excellent management team. The staff are all compassionate and caring, both towards the residents and the families. Communication with me and the family was always excellent – They always had time to address my concerns
despite being very busy at times. My dad was quite frail when he first arrived after previously living independently, but at Heron Lodge he perked up and seemed more like his old self. He enjoyed his time here even though his mobility and memory were failing him. Well done Heron Lodge.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.168)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.168) out of 10 for Heron Lodge Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.468 for Heron Lodge Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (52 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 79 Ratings = 4.468
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Heron Lodge Nursing Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
