My mum has been at Heron Lodge for exactly a year now, and I cannot fault anything about her care. She is always dressed lovely with her hair brushed etc The staff are all amazing, they are like a family to my Mum. It doesn't matter what their job is, if they see anything that needs doing or anyone
who needs help, they are straight in. The communication I have always had with the home is brilliant. The management are brilliant and again always hands-on. This is a 5 star home.

If you're looking for a nursing home for your parents or relative, look no further. My dear dad was only at Heron Lodge for a short time but the care not only for my dad but for me too was exceptional. My dad was kept immaculately clean and tidy at all times and all personal issues were dealt with very
professionally. Every single member of staff was very approachable at all times for the smallest of queries. I can’t praise Heron Lodge high enough. Thank you to each and every one of you for all your help and support.

I cannot speak highly enough of the care my aunt received whilst living at Heron Lodge during the final months of her life. At 94 years of age, my aunt was frail and chose to stay mainly in her room. However, her needs were always addressed with great kindness and dignity. The staff were always popping
in to check on her and to offer a kind word and a cheerful face. Before she died she told me she was being well looked after and that her meals were lovely! Grateful thanks to all the staff at Heron Lodge!

Mum has been in Heron Lodge for just over a year. Although we have not seen the home in normal times we can see that she is happy and content. It feels like mum is safe and well cared for and there has not been a covid outbreak so good procedures are in place. The home has always been able to facilitate
safe visits during the pandemic for family members and always go out of their way to enable phone or video calls to be made.
We get regular updates from the manager on what is happening at the home and also specifically on how mum is doing. There are also Zoom meetings for family and residents too.
The home seems to have good links to other medical professionals for when needed.
The staff are very friendly and thoughtful, an example is that the kitchen staff keep in snacks which they know mum likes and she can pop into the kitchen at any time and request what she would like as she doesn't always like to eat at regular times.

My mother has been very happy since moving to Heron Lodge in 2018. Home is well managed and all concerns answered promptly. The staff are all very kind and caring. Home is clean and tidy. Rooms are clean bright and tidy. Covid-19 has been managed exceptionally well, with controlled visits and video
calls available.

Mum has been at Heron Lodge for nearly 9 months, initially on a temporary placement after a number of falls and a decline in her cognitive abilities. Despite the vast additional work placed on the staff in dealing with the pandemic they have tried very hard to enable me to make safe, distanced visits
when possible. The pandemic has meant that up to now I am only familiar with reception and a dining area which are clean and well-kept. Mum always appears cleanly dressed and well cared for. The staff treat her with courtesy, dignity and patient consideration. She seems very content with her surroundings and her care. The atmosphere between staff and residents is relaxed but professional. I have found the staff friendly and approachable and they keep me very well informed about Mum's condition. I am delighted that Mum now resides here permanently.

The real test of a care home is the happiness of the residents. At 102 years old, Mum was not enjoying life at home and it was obvious that she needed residential care and a move to Heron Lodge was arranged. Now, at 103, her life has improved dramatically despite the trials that the lockdown has imposed.
She regards the staff highly and talks about them as her friends. From my point of view, I can say that the staff run the home very efficiently and have managed to get through the pandemic with care, understanding and no infections. Nothing is too much trouble.

I cannot explain how much in awe I am of the staff of Heron Lodge. Every member is so kind and considerate to all their guests and treats them as family members. To have no covid related outbreaks at this terrible time is remarkable and shows how hard-working all the team are.
Living some distance
from my brother, to know he is being well looked after whilst I'm not able to visit, has been a great relief.
I cannot recommend this home highly enough. Whoever gets to live there will be a very lucky person.

From conversations with my brother, he feels he should receive more care from a senior carer/nurse. There are no activities for people who are still fully in charge of all their facilities as most of the patients have dementia. The bank nurses are not always fully aware of all his health requirements.
Luckily he has Sky TV to keep him occupied.

Mum is treated as an individual and with dignity and respect. She is always clean and well cared for. The staff are lovely and management are very approachable and have time to listen. Sadly mum passed away on 18th February. She was very well looked after and was kept comfortable, maintained her dignity
and was pain-free until she passed away peacefully on the 18th. On the day and since then, all staff have been fabulous and supportive, in particular the events coordinator, admin, nurse and clinical lead. I know they must face this situation often but I don't and they made me feel at ease and were empathetic and helpful and were extremely respectful and professional. My sincere thanks go to all of them at this sad time.

The staff show true care and respect for Mum. They have quickly learnt her preferences, and make a point to visit regularly for social stimulation. Everyone is so welcoming and involved. There are a number of real stars on staff, and some quieter folk who make sure care is there in their own way. Thanks
for being there and doing what we cannot do alone.

My Dad has been in Heron Lodge since December and in that time the difference in him is wonderful. His mobility has improved and he seems himself again. The staff go out of their way to get smiles and I am always greeted on arrival and given updates. The home is always clean and there seems to be a
good variety of food on offer.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.168)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.168) out of 10 for Heron Lodge Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.468 for Heron Lodge Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (52 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 79 Ratings = 4.468
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Heron Lodge Nursing Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
