My sister Carol is being well looked after. She always is clean and well dressed when we visit. The staff are very kind and helpful always busy.
Always told if Carol has any health problems and they deal with it.
The food is always good.

Thank you all the staff for their hard work and kindness.

I am a frequent visitor to the care home and am always warmly welcomed. The staff are always polite and helpful. When there I also notice that residents are also treated politely and with care, even though some can be rude and violent.

I appreciate that the staff have a difficult job, but in spite of their difficulties remain calm & polite.

My husband has lived at The Paddocks for over a year and has been really happy and content. He is bedridden. The carers are so kind and patient and he responds with chatter and smiles. He is quite poorly at the moment and the staff have been exceptional with him to keep him comfortable. They have been spoon feeding him drinks and finding food he can enjoy and swallow. I'd also like to praise the new manager who listens and acts upon what is said and the staff seem very happy under her guidance.

I will say on the whole everything works well and I have no complaints except the food could be better.

Good morning Angela thank you for your review. Since your review we have had changes in the kitchen team and we have hired a new head chef. During the resident meetings everyone was involved in creating a new summer menu which everyone has approved of. I hope your concerns over food are now resolved

Overall Experience
From start to finish the communication was appauling. Concerns raised verbally and then in writing were ignored, only when they were reported to CQC was any action taken. Bathing once every few weeks is considered OK, poor oral hygiene, urine bottles not emptied and left on bedside tables all day, urine soaked sheets left on the bed and the duvet pulled over (no wonder the home has that urine smell throughout), regularly told by carers they are "short staffed". Regular medication errors. RESPECT form and paperwork going missing. No regular updates of accidents. Sensor equipment never used properly or working. Asking for a doctor for 3 weeks to no avail and he ended up in hospital. 6 months there 24 falls and only 5 were witnessed! Unexplained bruising. Residents shouting for water and staff ignoring them. The list is endless of the lack of care this service provides.

Being told by the manager they would call the new care provider to warn them about the family is an absolute disgrace!!

My husband has been a resident in the Sandpiper Wing for just over a year. I visit as much as possible, I have found the staff very helpful and caring and feel he is being well looked after. The home is introducing regular resident care plan reviews and meetings with management have been reinstated with relatives, both are a positive step forward. My husband's room is carpeted, which although regularly cleaned harbours smell and is stained, I have raised this and am aware of budgetary and other constraints, but feel hard flooring would be a vast improvement. Due to design and space, there is no family room available and the communal lounge is often full, which makes accommodating more than one visitor per resident difficult. Several items of my husband's clothing have disappeared despite being marked with his name and room number, the introduced tagging system seems to work reasonably well. Activities and events are really good, e.g., live music, buffets for friends and relatives on special occasions. They have recently introduced a visual offering of meals available for residents to choose from.

Reply from Ellie Whiting, Digital Marketing Executive at The Paddocks

Thanks for your review! We're glad to hear the staff has been helpful and that you feel your husband is being well looked after. Following your conversation with the Care Dementia Manager, the better flooring option has been addressed, and we are figuring out ways to manage the crowded visitor...

Our uncle was admitted to The Paddocks on the 7th of December 2022. From day one he was treated with care, compassion and dignity. His room had all safety and security fitments that you would expect. His room was clean, bright and comfortable. The staff were absolutely marvellous, very caring and compassionate and patient. While our uncle was dying he was never left alone. In addition to care home staff by his side constantly, they regularly brought in a doctor, nurse or paramedic whenever needed. The food is excellent and the decor and facilities are excellent. A wonderful caring, safe environment.

Reply from Viktor Zak, Operations Director at The Paddocks

The care and support for my father were very good and there was always good communication with me about his well-being. Staff were friendly and efficient, treating residents with dignity and kindness. I think there could have been more activities to engage residents but I recognise this was difficult with residents with dementia. Food and drinks were good.

My mother has been a resident for more than ten years and in the early years enjoyed the social

The Paddocks is a very well-run care home. Meeting the needs of my parents very well. The rooms are very well-fitted and the events to keep them occupied are very well thought through. The food given provides a very well-balanced diet. An all-round nice place to be.

Mum's dementia medication ran out on 15/02/2023 and The Paddocks Care Home did not request anymore from the doctors, therefore, Mum was left with no dementia medication for three weeks which resulted in a significant deterioration in her dementia.

Food portions are far too big for older people, there is a lot of food wasted.
