We all have been extremely impressed and happy with our first experience of the home. We attended the dementia talk and learned a lot, thought it was wonderful that the staff put on such informative and helpful evenings. We would 100% recommend the home to anyone whose loved one needs care, thank you
all so much.

I have to congratulate the staff at Sanford House, each and every one of them has been supportive, informative and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. My mother was welcomed into the home for palliative care and she has been made very comfortable and is having a care plan put into place to
cater for her needs. It is a very emotional time and the staff are very reassuring and supportive. My own criticism is the decor is a bit tired and outdated. Perhaps a lick of paint would brighten things up but I am aware that a refurbishment is currently being put in place.
Reply from Maebh McComack-Hall, Sanford Nursing Home Manager at Sanford House Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time, Christine, to leave a review for Sanford House Nursing Care Home and for your positive comments about our services and team. We are pleased to hear your mother is getting the care she deserves. We continually strive to improve the care and service we provide and appreciate your feedback. I would like to invite you to discuss your thoughts on how we can improve our rooms at Sanford House Nursing Care Home further.

Before arriving at Sanford House, my son and I visited several care homes because we wanted the best for my wife. Sanford House stood out like a beacon. It was in our view the best we had seen. We were not disappointed. The environment at Sanford House was perfect for our needs. The staff exercise a
great deal of care, superb food, well-cooked and very well-presented. The management should be congratulated for the environment in which care is provided.

The place has a warm welcoming atmosphere with kind caring staff. My mum is treated with as much dignity as possible, her needs are met and is comfortable with her condition. The staff are always on time doing the tasks they have to do for her, the staff are always asking if I need any help. I was worried
when the subject of nursing homes came up but I needn't have worried, all the other residents seem to be happy.

My brother was only at Sanford House for about six weeks, having been discharged from hospital with a terminal illness, but in that time they couldn't do enough for him. From the day he arrived, they were keen to let him 'furnish' his room as he wished, even mounting his massive 62 inch TV on the wall.
The
staff were always friendly and welcoming, and that was great both for my brother and also us as his family and his other visitors. The room had a door direct to the garden and, whilst towards the end of his stay he couldn't get himself outside, he was able to open the door and look outside, see the garden and feel the breeze.
It was particularly nice to know that in his last few days, one staff member gave my brother ‘permission’ to let go. I know that’s so important to do and the one thing my optimism got in the way of doing myself. I am glad my brother spent his days at Sanford House and my thanks go to the staff who supported him through the last of his days.
Reply from Maebh McCormack, Home Manager at Sanford House Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words and recognition of the team at Sanford House. We are so sorry for your loss and we hope we made your brother’s time with us was as comfortable and as peaceful as possible, particularly by helping him furnish his room the way he wanted it. Your comments will be passed on to the team.

Overall care is very good; however, attention to detail is an area that requires improvement. The limiting factor may be minimum wage staffing. This might require more resources devoted to training.

Sandford House is recently under new management; in the early days of this change, I raised a problem, but it was dealt with very promptly, efficiently and effectively. I was very impressed.
My father is a difficult man, and the staff are excellent with him.
My only lower score is that the decor
in the whole facility is tired and non-stimulating.

I think the staff do the best they care.
It is warm and safe, which is the priority.
I think the food offered could be healthier (too much sugar).
Not enough outside time/access to gardens.
Very pleased with the new manager and changes.
Not yet seen a contract for my father.

Rude staff. Meals inconsistent, some days good, other days inedible, and meals not very hot, sometimes lukewarm at best. Have been times when pudding was not delivered at all. The cleaning is hit and miss, and some staff can be noisy and not considerate to the residents who are sleeping or having quiet
time. More staff training is needed, relatives need to be listened to, and relatives' words need to be acted upon or passed on to a senior staff member.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Sanford House Nursing HomeWe pride ourselves on the resident experience and take comments such as this seriously as it is not typical of the positive feedback we receive. I would like to thank all the staff at Sanford House for their friendly and caring attitude towards my mum in her final few weeks of life. Although Mum was not very communicative towards the end, she did say how well looked after and kind the staff were. I cannot speak highly enough of Sanford House
and would recommend them to everyone.

My husband has complex needs and the staff cope very well to manage this. He is cared for extremely well. The staff are always very friendly and approachable and the care home is always very clean and welcoming to visitors. The home has set up a family monthly form to meet with the manager as well as
a monthly newsletter which is shared with families of residents.

Resident has been in this care home for 10 months and have always found the staff excellent, caring, friendly and treat my relation with dignity. The home is very clean and they organise a good variety of activities for the residents. Manager is also very approachable and has put excellent communication
to the family. They are also very experienced in dealing with challenging behaviour which is very difficult to deal with. Excellent care home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.774)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.774) out of 10 for Sanford House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.774 for Sanford House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (186 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 234 Ratings = 4.774
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sanford House Nursing Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2023

As the Home Manager I believe our residents are our priority, and we are privileged that they choose to be in our homes and care and trust us to support their needs.

I completed my Nursing Degree at Trinity College Dublin in 2010 and moved to the UK in 2011. Since becoming a Registered Nurse, I have worked in a variety of roles within the care sector for over 13 years. I have worked with adults with learning disabilities and mental health problems in secure services for over 4 years and then moved on to Dementia and Nursing Home Care. I progressed to a clinical lead role and then onto the part of Home Manager. I also supported homes across Norfolk and Suffolk as an Operations Manager.

Working across various settings has supported my clinical and management skills development.

I operate an open-door policy and am approachable, not only to my team but to the residents and their relatives too. I encourage person-centred care and reflect this in how the staff team works and delivers their care.

I am passionate about putting residents first as we are given the opportunity to work in their homes and care for and support their needs.

I enjoy training developing and mentoring my team members to grow and develop in their roles at home and within the company.

In my spare time, I love to spend time with family and friends. I enjoy reading, running, and watching rugby. I also enjoy travelling when possible visiting different cities and countries and experiencing different cultures.
