Following lots of staff changes in the last 9 months we feel things are on the up for my mum. My mum was a keen gardener but since staff had been laid off things outside went down hill and the latest contractors seem like butchers. Very happy with the new manager, lot more focus and this is reflected
in the staff.

My wife has been in Woodland Care for almost five years, during this time we have very pleased with care and attention that she has received. The staff have been extremely caring and friendly. The activities have also been very good and much appreciated- thanks to everyone.

Mum was discharged from hospital straight to Woodland. Many other homes had turned her down due to concerns about her safety as she was prone to falls. Woodland were happy to take her on and initially provided 24-hour one-to-one care funded by CHC, eventually this was reduced to 12 hours per day and
finally withdrawn once Mum had lost her mobility. Throughout this time and beyond the care home staff were extremely diligent and caring towards Mum, ensuring her safety and reporting any issues back to us. Sadly Mum passed away in late September. We asked her many times if she was happy there and she always said yes, the management and staff were all very friendly, approachable and happy to discuss any issues and keep us updated on progress. The home provides good healthy meals, there are plenty of activities on a daily basis, and they take the residents on outings as and when possible. Mum particularly enjoyed her day out at an animal park. We thank them all for all they did for her.
Reply from Claire Royal, Deputy Manager at Woodland Care Home

Thank you for your kind words, Mr S. We pride ourselves at Woodlands in providing person-centred care and tailoring our care to each individual. It was a pleasure caring for your mother-in-law during her last days, and ensuring all her wishes were met.

Overall, the standard of care is excellent. The carers really cared, and I felt supported by them as much as they supported my grandma. They treated me kindly and offered reassurance when I was unsure. They understood and had compassion. They did everything possible to make her comfortable both in the
life she had with them and when she passed.
I didn’t have much contact with the management, and I cannot comment on whether it is good value for money because we didn’t have anything to compare it to; care home costs across the board seem very expensive.

I have nothing but praise for Woodlands Care Home.
My husband has only been in the home for 6 weeks. The staff treat him like they have known him for years. They are kind, caring, nothing is too much trouble for them all done with a smile! I am involved in all the treatment he has, they tell me all
that is going on with him, good or bad.
I am very pleased he is in this home as I feel he is safe.

I was sent to Woodlands Care Home from 13th June 2022 until the 18th of September 2023. Ever since I have been in the care home they have supported me all the way through my stay. They were always there when I needed to talk to them. All the staff are excellent at what they do they care about the residents
under their care. They treat you with respect and dignity and they listen to your problems. I would like to say a big thank you to all the day and night staff and management for all your care and support. I recommend this place all the way I will definitely be back when going into respite. Thank you once again to all Woodlands staff.

My mum has been at Woodland for 3 months and is thriving since leaving hospital in a very poor state after the trauma of breaking her hip. The staff are kind and respectful and have done their utmost to make Mum feel at home. They are friendly and inclusive and whenever I visit I feel I’m part of a
big family. Their activities coordinator is passionate about making her activities room a place for socialising as well as doing activities. My mum is a very sociable person so the activities room has played a big part in helping her heal, make friends, and do well here. We had a few issues personalising Mum’s care initially but the manager and her staff have always listened to our feedback and requests and then put into practice the things we wanted for Mum. Having Mum at Woodland has always felt like a team effort and as a family we appreciate that.

Mum has now been in this care home for two years and care provided has been excellent. Regular updates given on health of Mum when needed, including from the care home doctor. Staff are always friendly - having taken visitors into the home they have remarked how friendly and caring the staff were, from

After a stressful time (care home closed down). I asked my husband's social worker to refer him to Woodland Care Home. The day my husband arrived along with myself and my daughter, we all received a truly warm reception from the manager and staff. It was decided by managers a larger room was needed
because of his needs. All care is excellent.

My sister was fast-tracked and funded to a nursing home, and I was very impressed with my viewing apportionment. I got a nice feeling about the place as soon as I went through the front door. Everyone was so friendly, and I got the feeling that my sister would be treated as an individual and she could
be someone in her own right. The home was clean and tidy, and the bedrooms were bright and airy too. It's like being home from home. A great place to be.

My dad has been in Woodland Care Home for respite care for just under two weeks. Although there is a shortage of staff in a lot of care homes, we've found Woodland staff to be caring. The manager is always willing to listen to any concerns and, as a family, we are encouraged to get involved with the
social events they have. We are now in discussions to make my dad a resident there as our initial experience has been very positive and most importantly my dad seems happy - please take into account that these views are based on a short stay. We haven't experienced everything.

I've been a regular visitor to my sister. She is very happy and contented. I've noticed a good improvement in her general health. She's had her teeth sorted out and is always praising how good the staff are. Several relations visited, and we all agree our family members couldn't be anywhere better.
There is a very upbeat feel about the whole care home, and always many activities going on. The whole staff are very smiley and helpful.

I have already written a review but feel the need to write another following Covid. Mum was sent here by the NHS a few years ago following a life-changing stroke, going from being independent to all care from her bed and fed via a tube in her stomach. You hear such bad stories via the press and was
naturally worried but over the weeks months and years, I don't think we could have had much better care. In fact, Woodlands fought with me to have my mum stay there and upon reflection, I am truly grateful for this. During Covid we were updated as much as possible, Mother passed in January we were well informed and recommendations were given to me for which I am grateful. Even now I miss going there putting my feet up sitting with Mum and chilling out, a short time there but leaving good memories. I cannot rate the food as Mum didn't eat solids but it looked and smelt awesome.

My partner became poorly at the beginning of January 2021 and was taken to hospital, which is where he remained until he was moved to Woodlands Care Home in March. When he arrived there, he was very malnourished, had no interest in anything and had lost his spark. Within a couple of weeks, the transformation
was amazing. He began to eat, hold a conversation and discovered his sense of humour. The staff are amazing. It was through their caring, consideration and encouragement he has made the progress he has. He is on palliative care and has always been treated with dignity and respect by the staff. I have never seen any unhappy faces when I have been to visit, and nothing is ever too much trouble. He receives the day to day care and support, which he needs in an amazing care home. As his partner, I could not wish for him to be in a better place. Thank you to you all.

Unfortunately, the care home has really plummeted in the last year. Carers are understaffed and the ones that are, are super underappreciated. Lost a lot of good ones recently.
The manager is super rude and unhelpful.
Home has lost its medication license, something to think about. Also, the van is
no longer available for use, so residents spend a lot of time inside.
Shout out to the activities coordinator, always kept Gran busy.
Cleaning ladies were a pleasure to talk to.
Safe to say we’re glad Gran has now moved after four years, she was getting very depressed.
Reply from Anita Brian, Home Manager at Woodland Care Home

When I spoke to your Gran she told us that she was happy at Woodlands but wished to move to be closer to her daughter. She had lost some friends recently which left her feeling lonely and in low mood which I understood and sympathised with. We worked hard to support her and so I was surprised and saddened at your comments, I wanted to respond. Staffing is reviewed regularly and relates to the needs of the residents. Any recent staff turnover was due to personal reasons, I am not aware of anyone feeling underappreciated. We have never had a “Medication license”. We are a nursing home but your Gran was a residential funded resident and we are legally required to refer to district nurses to administer certain medication and manage dressings. The specially adapted minibus was not used throughout the pandemic and depreciated. As restrictions have eased a new bus has been delivered to the home.
I hope this helps to allay any concerns and I am happy to discuss further.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.576)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.576) out of 10 for Woodland Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.698 for Woodland Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (78 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.698
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.878 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodland Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.2 = 0.978
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
