The staff at Hillside are extremely caring and my mum seems very happy there. Her room is clean and she is well cared for. Mum always say the staff are lovely and she says the food is excellent - " like a hotel". It has been difficult during Covid as I live far away but the staff are always happy to
accommodate phone calls and will always answer any queries I have. My only criticism is that the outside area needs a little TLC before next summer to improve the surroundings for outdoor visits.

Still very pleased with the care given to my mum although, understandably, still not able to fully access the home. When I arrange a visit all the staff I am in contact with are very kind and helpful. My mum always comments on how happy she is. I also received a lovely email newsletter with lots of
information and photos. Thank you. As I am still unable to enter the home, some ratings I am unable to comment on.

Whether visiting Hillside House or visiting my mother or telephoning, the call is answered promptly and dealt with in a caring and calm manner. If I need questions answered they are answered promptly and in an informative way, which puts my mind at ease.

My mother-in-law has been at Hillside for two and a half years, and we have found her to be well cared for. The family don’t live near to Sudbury and not having been able to visit during Covid, the staff are very good at communicating with us so we know how she is.

Dad seems very happy being at Hillside, if he's happy, I'm happy, plus it takes a lot of pressure off me after being his carer for several years. He has been a resident since September 2020, therefore, I was only able to visit him at the start outside then when the weather changed luckily now indoors.
His chaperone has been very friendly and helpful and they provide PPE for each visit. Can not comment personally on certain facilities as I have only seen Dad either outside or in the visiting room but everywhere looks clean and tidy and the staff are very friendly and thoroughly conscientious on their duty of care.

My uncle became a resident at Hillside Care Home for a short time at the end of his life following discharge from hospital. Due to Covid rules, I could only visit the care home once so I am unable to comment on such things as 'facilities' etc. However, my dealings with all staff over the phone demonstrated
that they were trying their best to make my uncle's final weeks as comfortable as possible. Staff were always positive, caring and patient. I am grateful to them for their support during a very difficult time.

I was in Hillside Care Home for respite care. The staff made me feel immediately welcome and I was a little trepidatious at first but the care I received in my week was exemplary. My buzzer was answered promptly. My personal care was very good and I felt very much that I was understood. The coronavirus
was just beginning and I saw all the preparation being put in place.

My husband was in respite care at Hillside for nearly 2 months while I was in hospital and recovering. My husband is not easy to look after as he is unable to speak and paralysed on his right side. He was very well looked after and the staff were so cheerful and helpful.
I would recommend Hillside

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.745)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.745) out of 10 for Hillside Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.250 for Hillside Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (43 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 100 Ratings = 4.25
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.495 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillside Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.8 = 0.795
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
