Kingfisher House Care Home is located is pretty gardens in a quiet area of Newmarket, yet within reach of shops, amenities and public transport.

The service provides residential care for people who need support with everyday activities such as washing, dressing or eating, as well as keeping on top of taking regular medications. In addition, the service offers specialist residential care for people who are living with dementia or a mental health condition.

Short-term respite care is also available to give family or friends a well-earned break and specialist intermediate nursing care is also offered as an alternative to a hospital stay.

Traditional home cooking using fresh produce is offered with choices being available. Special diets can be catered for.

A varied activities programme includes coffee mornings, bingo and performances by local entertainers to name a few. The home has strong links with the local community who are always welcome to join in with many of the events taking place.

I think my friend is being looked after very well, he does not complain about the service or care.
He gets everything he needs and the staff are friendly, relaxing and kind.

My mother is looked after very well, she is well fed. We wish she was able to move out of bed more regularly. Initially, it appeared there were more carers and they had time to talk more with us, it is not so easy to speak to with them today.
Overall it is a good service, we just wish the carers had
more time.

The placing of my wife was the best possible outcome. I had looked after my wife since 2009 following her stroke. I had an accident at work before I retired and have a broken back, for which there is no treatment.
With the back injury, I was at the end of my tether after 7 years and near to having
a breakdown. So with my wife coming to Kingfisher relieved all the stress and also having my wife being looked after at Kingfisher in such a wonderful way.
Her care at times can be difficult, but I know it has been second to none.
I think all the staff love her and are wonderful. I cannot speak highly enough about Kingfisher. I know my wife is being cared for in a way that I could not.

Since the appointment of the care manager, the care home has rapidly gone downhill.
The staff are despondent and unhappy in their work, which inevitably impacts on the residents.

I have completed this on behalf of my father who is unable to write legibly.
My father is settled and reasonably happy. He likes his carers and enjoys the activities organised with the other residents.
He needs help, which is given with daily things. Nursing care is always available when needed
and his room is clean and warm.

Staff seem very attentive and kind. Mum has found the transition very difficult but she knows she is in the best place.

My mother went into Kingfisher House in November 2013, she died on 9/3/2016.
I can only say how good my mothers care was. She was always clean, her skin was always intact. My mother was bed-bound and when she was in hospital they were always amazed her skin was intact. She came out of hospital with
bed sores.
They gave my mother all her meals as she could not feed herself. She was always treated with love and dignity.

Alastair Rayner

Job Title: Home Manager at Kingfisher House Care Home, Newmarket Joined: 2022

Alastair has a wealth of knowledge and experience with an NVQ3 and an NVQ5 in Leadership and Adult Social Care. He began his career as a care assistant at a nursing home before becoming a team leader at a brain injury rehabilitation centre. Following this, he managed various different health facilities before coming to Kingfisher House. Alastair is particularly proud of achieving an ‘Outstanding’ CQC rating whilst he was the registered manager of a care home in Bury. Outside of work, Alastair loves to fundraise for charity. He previously raised over £60,000 for the charity ‘Dogs for Good’ by trekking around the world, including climbing to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. He also enjoys golf and gardening.
