Kingfisher House Care Home is located is pretty gardens in a quiet area of Newmarket, yet within reach of shops, amenities and public transport.

The service provides residential care for people who need support with everyday activities such as washing, dressing or eating, as well as keeping on top of taking regular medications. In addition, the service offers specialist residential care for people who are living with dementia or a mental health condition.

Short-term respite care is also available to give family or friends a well-earned break and specialist intermediate nursing care is also offered as an alternative to a hospital stay.

Traditional home cooking using fresh produce is offered with choices being available. Special diets can be catered for.

A varied activities programme includes coffee mornings, bingo and performances by local entertainers to name a few. The home has strong links with the local community who are always welcome to join in with many of the events taking place.

I am always impressed when I visit Kingfisher.
The staff are always very friendly and pleasant.
The place is always neat and clean and the residents seem happy.
Obviously, some of them would rather not be in a home but are always treated as friends whatever their attitude.
The food always looks
inviting and nourishing.

Since mum has been resident at Kingfisher House I have found the staff to be helpful caring and friendly. They show a lot of patience too!
I must also add that staff take the time to engage with the residents' families too and listen to us which I also think is very important and reassuring.

I am comfortable, well attended to and find the staff helpful and friendly. My biggest issue is the food which I feel does not offer me much of a choice, portions are often too large and with strange combinations e.g Sprouts with fish and chips.

The care staff in the dementia unit my father is in are excellent, friendly, caring and respectful they do all they can to ensure residents are happy, comfortable and well cared for. The food is excellent.
The managers are very helpful. A varied activity programme covering all different interests.

I have found the staff friendly and reliable and are very compassionate towards the needs of my mother and father and also they go out of their way to try and help with whatever needs must. Thank you to all staff involved. They do a great job. Well done!

My wife has been in the home since January 2016, when she was very agitated and unsettled. The staff have been good in caring for her, and she is much calmer and more settled, although she still wants to come home.

I feel that mum is looked after well. I come up at all different times and the staff are very helpful. They keep me well informed of any situation. There were problems earlier in the year with regards to the lack of staff and stressed looking staff but that seems to have been sorted out now and there's
a more relaxed feeling there.

My mother finds most of the carers understanding, kind and very helpful. The odd carer can be a little abrupt but this is probably due to 'time pressures'. Overall the facilities are very good and the cleanliness of the room and public areas very good. My mother finds a lack of choice within the food
and often can't manage with what is offered. However, overall she is happy at Kingfisher and we are pleased with the level of care and attention that is given to her.

The care and assistance is excellent - staff are very good and caring, treated with dignity. Laundry service not considered satisfactory - clothes are laundered okay, but tend to get lost - new skirt and nightdress lost and never found. Washing now done by daughter to avoid loss. Sandwiches often very
sparse with fillings.

My father has been a resident for 2 and half years now. Staff always welcoming to visitors at any time and always make the effort to talk to me about my father's condition etc. The place is always clean, bright and nicely decorated, the lounge has nice chairs to sit in. The garden is a great asset.

My husband has on the whole, been well looked after at Kingfisher. The only complaint I've got is the fact he has lost so many of his clothes during his stay and I have been reimbursed with some money but not for all his losses.


Some of the staff are very good and I can find no fault, but there are

one or two who should not be in a caring job, but they are in the minority.

The staff are very kind and caring. They make me feel very confident that my dad is well cared for and that he is happy. The staff are also really kind and helpful to me and our family, especially to my children (12 and 14-year-old boys) who come to visit. I am happy to knowing that my dad is safe and
happy now and we can no longer keep him at home with us. I have recommended the home to people I know.

A good care home, with staff that are caring and work in difficult situations at times. Residents have a variety of entertainment that they seem to enjoy. Could possibly have more outside entertainers come in per month. Meals are well balanced, healthy and very good. I have asked the manager about changing
the carpet repeatably over the last 6-8 months as it smells strongly, but this hasn't happened so far.

Alastair Rayner

Job Title: Home Manager at Kingfisher House Care Home, Newmarket Joined: 2022

Alastair has a wealth of knowledge and experience with an NVQ3 and an NVQ5 in Leadership and Adult Social Care. He began his career as a care assistant at a nursing home before becoming a team leader at a brain injury rehabilitation centre. Following this, he managed various different health facilities before coming to Kingfisher House. Alastair is particularly proud of achieving an ‘Outstanding’ CQC rating whilst he was the registered manager of a care home in Bury. Outside of work, Alastair loves to fundraise for charity. He previously raised over £60,000 for the charity ‘Dogs for Good’ by trekking around the world, including climbing to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. He also enjoys golf and gardening.
