The care home seems to have improved. Staff seem to be happier, activities seem to be more consistent and the general atmosphere seems more positive.

Having arranged care for my father, I was concerned about how he would be when it came to his admission. However, the welcome he received was fantastic. The staff knew his name and made him feel really special. There was even a welcome card in his room. Once in, lovely checks were made and recorded. The highly professional way that the home is run has been a huge relief to our family. We know he is taken well care of, is safe and treated extremely well. Thank you, team!

Food inedible at times (potatoes uncooked). Seems to be no permanent cook - therefore anybody including maintenance staff prepares food! The community lounge floor is filthy, you stick to the floor when you walk in. Because of language barriers with some of the foreign staff, they come across very rude and brash. Staff are very reluctant to help with anything they deem not to be their job. When visiting you can wait an age for anyone to answer the door. A very poor and badly run establishment.

My mother is mostly content but does complain about her call button not being responded to, especially in the afternoons.
She does feel a shower/hair wash shouldn't have to be fought for.
Ma has lots of positive comments regarding the permanent carers, but the agency carers can be dreadful - not knowing how to wash her, or with what - hair conditioner by one!

Ma does like to go to lunch now, but often doesn't as she hates to be plonked in the sitting room for hours afterwards!

Some of the care staff are very good and interact with the residents, but others make no effort whatsoever.

Booking appointments to visit or video call is extremely difficult as no one answers the phone. When visiting, getting staff to answer the door can often take in excess of 15 minutes. More activities are needed and trips. Residents don't get much opportunity to get out.

Review from Lawrence I (Husband of Resident) published on 6 October 2021 Submitted via Postal Card

A few days ago I gave the acting manager a list of the clothes I brought into the care home for my wife to wear. My wife had previously informed me that her clothes had disappeared and that she was now having to wear other people's clothes.
This morning I rang Kingfisher at 9:30 am. Eventually, after making at least 6 calls I eventually spoke to someone in the managers' office. I told them I wished to make an appointment to see my wife on Sunday having been informed that lockdown finished on Friday. I was informed that lockdown is still in force. This care home is an utter shambles!

My wife suffers from dementia but is able to communicate with me satisfactorily.

My mother looks very well, clean, and mostly happy with her lot.

Ma does complain (not in her character) about some of the carers being abrupt and not very friendly. Sunday night mother wanted to go to the loo, the carer refused to take her saying to use the "pad" but bound her so tightly, laughed and said you won't be able to do a pee nor number 2, Ma was so uncomfortable and upset. The call button is often not given to her, very wrong. Call buttons can go unanswered for an hour plus.

The staff have always been approachable, friendly and casing. My mum has said she is happy at Kingfisher and grateful for the support they have given her. It has been a great comfort to me to know that as my mums needs here change that the staff have dealt with this sensible and with compassion.

It is difficult for me to write a proper review as this is only the 2nd time I have been inside the building and her room properly and then, only for a short time because of COVID restrictions, but so far everything has been good. My mum is clean and tidy, her room is clean, all staff I have spoken to so far have been very helpful, one member of staff, in particular, has been most helpful answering my questions in this difficult time. On the whole, the care home is run very well.

This was the first visit after 7-months; I was very anxious to see Mum. The staff were exceptionally understanding and very supportive of me. I was very happy to see Mum was very well cared for and comfortable. I cannot praise the staff highly enough. Her room was very clean. Mum looked lovely, clean and well dressed. Would like to say a huge thank you to all staff for all you are doing to take care of my precious Mum.
