Overall, very good through the pandemic and after. I feel comfortable and safe. The staff are very good and will do anything they can for you. The food is excellent. The cleaners are very good. Everyone goes over and above their duties, including the nursing staff.

My aunt has been happy at St Georges. Sometimes the personal care is not delivered early enough in the morning for her, as she likes to be up and ready early. Despite this, the staff are lovely, the home has a warm atmosphere, and she is happy.

St Georges Care Home is one of the best nursing homes. Whenever we visited my aunt, she never complained; she told us that the staff looked after her with great care, and we couldn't ask for more. Big thank you to the manager and the staff. You were amazing.

Mum was discharged from the hospital in November 2022. We selected St Georges Care Home because Mum has previously been there for eight weeks of respite care, and she was pleased with the care she received; therefore, it was the obvious choice. We did have some issues during her second term, but these
were quickly resolved by the managers. Mum was well looked after and was shown courtesy and respect by the care team.
Reply from Home Manager at St GeorgesThank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review of your experience with St Georges Care Home, Robert. We are glad to hear that your mother received good care and was treated with respect and courtesy by our care team. Your comments will be passed on to the team.

When Mum was at St Georges, she felt happy and contented. All staff were very loving and careful towards her. Although she lost her voice, the carers took time to listen to her whispering, which made her feel she was not isolated. Mum was never one to "participate" in many activities, but due to the
kind and gentle ways of the staff, she admitted that she had enjoyed the many activities on offer. So, I would like to thank everyone at St Georges and wish the home every success in the future.
Reply from Home Manager at St GeorgesThank you, Peter; we are so pleased to read your wonderful comments about the care your Mum received - you are such a lovely family. We are really sorry for your loss, and we hope we made your Mums time with us as peaceful as possible. All comments will be passed on to the team, and thank you again for the review.

Moving Mother to St Georges Care Home was the best decision my family made. She lived happily there for 18 years, surrounded by staff (cleaners, laundry, admin and nursing) who made time to chat. She loved hearing stories about their families. Friends and family were also welcome; her sister was always
made a fuss of. The reception staff were helpful, being willing to pass on messages to my mother when we telephoned. When we visited, the staff were cheerful, describing my mother's antics and characteristics in a moving way. A special thanks to the cook for adjusting the texture of the food and persuading her to eat more, and her key workers are the year for their patience.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at St GeorgesThank you for leaving us such a fantastic review, Selwyn! We're happy to hear that your mother has been receiving such great care at St George’s and will pass on your kind comments to the whole team.

My parents have been at St Georges for nearly two years after increased frailty and the fact that one is deaf and the other blind forced them to give up their independent living. A difficult transition was made significantly easier by the friendliness and caring nature of the staff. We have been kept
fully updated on their health and well being, and the arrangement of carefully managed visits during the pandemic has been of real benefit to my parents and myself.

My mother was a resident in this home for the last 8 years of her life before sadly passing away in March 2020. In all the years she has been there we have seen many changes, some good and as you would imagine, some bad. However, throughout her time in the home, she has been largely treated with respect
and, from many of the carers, love.
Whilst I understand that I cannot name carers here, those who interacted with Mum in these latter years know who you are and I would like to thank you for your care. Overall I think Mum was very happy here, and, given the length of time we visited, we were also treated well and visits were always a pleasure. Where we had issues (which there will always be), these were dealt with promptly and efficiently. When this silly period is over we will visit to thank you all in person but in the meantime, please all stay safe.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the staff involved in the palliative care of my life long friend. He was treated with the utmost dignity and respect in the most kind and compassionate way imaginable. From a visitors point of view, I was made to feel so welcome, no
matter what time of the day or night I needed to be there to support my friend. Thank you so much for making such a very difficult time as bearable as possible.

From the minute we arrived at St Georges the staff were there to help get my aunt and all her things to her room in her new home. Many came and introduced themselves while we were there and we left feeling that we had made the correct choice. Every time I visited I felt very welcome, was told what had
been going on and always ended up with a cup of tea! Well done and thank you.

This home is currently under the process of being re-decorated. As a result, this makes for a better environment for the staff to work in and more pleasant for visitors. The resident's rooms are not affected by this make-over so any disruption seems minimal. The staff are always helpful despite working
long shifts. There has been a general improvement at this home over the last year. Residents are encouraged to take part in daily activities organised for them.

My mother has been a resident for 2 years and in that time I have found the care and attention to her needs very good. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the food is excellent and offers a wide choice. My mum enjoys the food very much. They have entertainment each week, which you can join in with
if you wish. The carers and staff all work extremely hard to make the residents feel safe and at home. I find it to be a happy home.

Extremely welcoming and friendly. Staff are very friendly and polite, activity staff provide excellent entertainment and new ideas to keep residents occupied. Kitchen staff are always willing to try various menus and food ideas. Rooms are kept clean and tidy, although could do with being freshened up
with a coat of paint and new flooring. The home is decorated beautifully at special times, i.e Christmas, Queen's celebrations, Easter. All staff work very hard, given that they are frequently unstaffed. Overall very pleasant.

Although things have improved there is still a long way to go. Shortage of care staff seems to be a major issue with a large turnover. Saying we comply with government guidelines is not enough. Also, foreign speaking staff can be very difficult for the elderly to understand, leading to misunderstandings.
Another problem is the call bell is out of reach, left on the bed or floor. The staff having to rush off to another room. I could go on! On the plus side, most of the staff are excellent and do their utmost to please, some, however, are in the wrong job. Overall I think the manager has stabilized things and hopefully on the right track.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.113)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.113) out of 10 for St Georges is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 3.875 for St Georges is calculated as follows: ( (18 Excellents x 5) + (73 Goods x 4) + (25 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 3.875
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.238 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Georges is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.6 = 0.588
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
