Overall Experience

I came to John Wills House on the morning of 29th August 2019 by Ambulance from Southmead Hospital. I remember crying that I wanted to go home. This was not possible as after a fall my then Care Company had pulled out. I have been in John Wills House for almost 6 months and I have to say it has been a wonderful experience. All the staff are amazing and are dedicated to their jobs with a very empowering ethos giving you your independence and choices. The food is fantastic and nothing is too much trouble - if you want something a little different, you just ask. I had occasion to be unwell during my stay. I had the flu - not at all pleasant but I received very efficient care and recovered quite quickly. I am approaching the final stages of my time in John Wills House but I would like to thank all members of staff and I highly recommend John Wills House. Thank you all I will miss you greatly.

My wife’s brother was omitted to John Wills care home on 2nd February. He was quite poorly, but in ten days he was feeling happy and was very comfortable. The staff there are fantastic and friendly, and very caring to the patients.
The staff has an extremely caring attitude and a strong commitment to their work.
We walked into the building and the receptionist was very polite and friendly and gave us her time to help us.

We thank all the staff for their care and friendly attitude, it stands out.

It was my first visit to John Wills House care home to see my mum, who was taken here after being in the hospital for several weeks. I had to write this review as I couldn't believe how helpful and lovely the staff were. As soon as we arrived we were offered a cup of coffee and even allowed to take in our small dog that my mum loves to see. Mum's room was spacious and homely and they seem to really care about their patients. Mum loves the food which is cooked at the home and said it is just like a hotel. After having a really stressful time with mum having to go into hospital several times, I can relax for the first time knowing she is safe and being looked after by kind and caring staff.

This review relates to the care of my Mother in The Orchards, the dementia wing of John Wills House. My Mother has lived at the Orchards for just over two years, during which time her care needs have changed considerably. I have been extremely pleased with the care that she has received. The staff are wonderful - caring, kind, patient and responsive to her needs. They make great effort to get to know and understand my Mother, in order to treat her as an individual. The staff are also alert to the needs of the family members who visit my Mother. We are always made to feel welcome and are well looked after while we are at The Orchards. This helps to make visits more pleasant, as it is not easy to see the effects of dementia on a loved one. I highly recommend this care home and, more broadly, other services that the St Monica Trust provide.

I have worked at John Wills House for over 16 years, starting as a registered nurse and currently as a deputy care home manager of the short-term care unit.

My earlier career was in acute care, but once I made the decision to come into social care, I knew I had found my passion. Our residents are at the heart of what the team do, and to see our residents achieve their own personal goals with the support of our therapy team and return home is great to be a part of.
