SEVERN (S) Would like to review positively but can't. Some care assistants & nurses did their best others the bare minimum. HUMAN WARMTH would have been better than a large room rarely cleaned well. Food unappetising & often cold (teeth often not put in)
The most basic of 'care' with little to no mental stimulation (often just left in bed with loud TV but no hearing aids put in) no personal touch, very little interest, not checked on regularly. Few activities & not enough staff to enable joining in with those run at CQ over the road (which this home brochure sets great store by & fails to deliver) Just 2 small balconies overlooking concrete jungles/building sites; reliant on staff to get there.
A lonely, clinical place Overruled by family re placing my poor mother here which will sadden me always; She died lonely & unhappy. Needs unannounced inspection.

I couldn't have chosen anywhere better for two weeks respite between leaving hospital and going home. Without exception, the staff were kind, caring and thoughtful. Nothing was too much trouble and all seemed happy at work. Personal physio sessions improved my mobility and built my confidence to do
as much as possible on my own. My room was comfortable and spacious, with plenty of storage, tv and a well designed ensuite shower room. There was a good choice at meal times and I could help myself to fruit, water tea or coffee at any time. The facilities and activities were amazing. I used the hairdressers, painting studio, cafe, lunch club in the restaurant, afternoon tea and cake in the garden, a singing group and minibus outing to a riverside pub. Sadly I didn't have time for pottery, cinema, spa pool or nailbar. What impressed me was the way service was personalised. On the first day, I was asked if I like to be woken or not, what time I'd like breakfast, if I wanted meals in my room or in the dining room and what I wanted from my stay here. Five star.

The care I received was excellent - let down.
1) By the food - pre-prepared meals - not chef prepared as I was expecting in respite care.
2) The floor in the shower room was cambered the wrong way- so that the shower water did not go towards the drain and flooded the whole floor- making it a death
trap if stood on- useless treading on a towel- this laundry costs must have been incurred.
3) I had hoped for more exercise and mental stimulation.

My mother who is 103 has just spent two weeks at the Chocolate Quarter in order to give my sister with whom she normally lives, a respite.
The care that she received was outstanding and I and my family who visited a couple of times a day, would like to thank the care staff most warmly for the friendly
welcome and continuous care and attention that they gave

My mother was found a place at short notice. She is on palliative care. The trust deserves its reputation. The facilities are excellent and the staff likewise, caring, thoughtful, focused on solving problems and respecting their residents. In our unit the nurse lead is very impressive. The grounds are
extraordinary. My mother loves her independence and retains her strong will; but she can walk in the garden and have her own way as much as is safe! I have no safety concerns. All the family who have visited share our good impression.

Staff are caring and professional. I don't think they would give any better care to their own mother. Staff are respectful and provide dignity to my mother with every interaction. In a situation where my mother is weak and dependent they give her choices and say in her care which helps us feel that
mum is empowered. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff, one example of this is the help I have had to make sure my mum is in the wifi successfully and making sure mum can 'attend' (remotely) the Sunday chapel service. The nurses were able to do her required medical procedure early so she could be settled in time for church. The care here is amazing, I feel comfortable leaving mum in the evenings and know she will be safe.

A huge thank you to all the staff at The Russets, especially Crispin House Lead. I was out of the country in the weeks up to my mother's final days but I was kept constantly updated and personally supported through this difficult time.
My mother had unfortunate experiences at her 2 previous homes
so we were really pleased to discover a place where there were a variety of activities and access the garden anytime she wanted. Crispin is spacious so there is usually somewhere quiet to sit and the other huge plus is there are sufficient caring and committed staff to meet residents needs. Everyone on the team was always so caring and treated my mother as if she was their family member.

From Christmas Eve to February 24th 2025 my Father was a resident at John Wills House Nursing Home. Up until his death he received the most excellent quality of care in every way and from every staff member. Whether it be receptionist, cleaner, meals technicians, nurses, carers managers. My wife has been in the dementia section of this care home for nearly one year. She has settled amazingly well due the attention and personal care shown to her by staff. For my part prior to my wife's placement, the St Monica Trust were very supportive and helpful to me personally in talking through
my anxieties and concerns. The St Monica Trust reassured me that my wife would be able to maintain a degree of independent living with security and continue to enjoy life. This has brought renewed happiness to us both.

I spent over a week in hospital in December 2024 and moved to Christchurch just before Christmas. I had had a fall which broke my left hip in such a way that an operation was not possible. As a result, I arrived at Charterhouse virtually unable to walk. I came home on Sunday 2nd February able to get
around very well on a variety of walkers, feeling very confident although I live alone and very grateful for all the care I received that enabled me to do so. My room was light. Food was adequate and I was able to leave my room early on. Above all the staff were simply wonderful, encouraging, helpful, and kind. All my physical needs were met, including sessions with the physios, which made my progress both easier and more rapid. I loved going downstairs and mingling with people of all ages from the local community. I cannot thank all the staff enough for enabling me to regain enough independence to return home.

Dad loved living here. He was made to feel so welcome and cared for. He said he felt cared for, safe and supported by all of the teams.
As a family, we were also very grateful for the professionalism, openness, support and inclusiveness that we received. Dad's care needs were considered, discussed
and implemented to ensure his welfare was paramount. We also really valued the great humour of the team caring for Dad and it was great to see him laughing. Humour was always a very important aspect of his life.
In addition, there were always lots of activities including lots of cake which was great as Dad had such a sweet tooth!

I am a resident of another home and had a hernia operation on the 2nd of October. Someone suggested I might be helped to recover by spending a week in Charterhouse, which I did.
I was helped there by having a room to myself, by visits from some caring staff, by having meals brought into me etc.
What
I found difficult was the noise, even with my door shut. Everyone had their own TV, sometimes on very loud with the door open. The TV in the middle of the room was on most of the day and late into the night and at various levels of sound and often with no one watching it. I realised later on I could go back to my room in the other home to have a siesta in the afternoon!
The communal TV was usually turned off around 11 pm, however the week I was there a member of staff turned on the TV at around 2.00 am. On another night another staff member turned it on at around 3.00 a.m. I had to get up and say that I was trying to sleep before they turned it off!
