I am happy here and cared for very well. If something goes wrong the staff deal with it very quickly and sort it out very well. I have to have very soft food as I have a damaged swallow and choke very easily. I cannot get on with pureed food so they ask me each day what I want to eat and get it for
me. The staff are very kind and friendly and I do not feel lonely as I did where I was before I came here. I hope to spend whatever time I have left here.

This review is based on the care received in the palliative care unit and not the rest of the home. The room was small and for those who spend all day in their room, it is very isolating as there is nothing to see. The design of the room made it impossible to place the chair to enable anyone to look
out of the window, though some rooms had no views. The room only had a toilet and washbasin, the shower was down the corridor and was also used as a storage room/visitors toilet.
The unit was busy, on one occasion when I rang the call bell it was 15 mins before a member of staff appeared. The staff seemed friendly when I visited, but my husband told me that some were not so kind towards him, probably due to not being able to understand him due to his speech difficulties.
End of life care left a lot to be desired and caused trauma due to lack of training of staff, this has now been addressed. Also, property was removed from the room without permission.
Reply from Lauren Barnes, Registered Manager at Clevedon Court Nursing Home

This is very unfortunate that we have received this review, which is not an accurate position of where Clevedon Court Nursing Home is and what it does. We pride ourselves on giving excellent end of life care and it seems, from this review, on this occasion we fell short of our very high standards. It is an isolated incident that happened late last year and it seems to be over a procedural issue and that we fully disclosed to CQC and the local safeguarding team. The concern was fully investigated and closed and we have enhanced our procedures to ensure this does not happen again and you will see from our other reviews this is most definitely a one-off concern. We apologise for any distress caused to this family.

During the past 6 months, my husband has received the best care for his progressive illness from all staff, carers and nurses including, and especially, the kindness during his final days. There was great dignity and emotional support for us both. The carers are cheerful and friendly and I feel we have
become family during my daily visits. I thank you all.

The staff at Clevedon Court were excellent, despite very difficult patients on the first floor, which should be avoided at all costs. I appreciate that they cannot help it, but the level of shouting/screaming at times was not unbearable.

My Uncle was cared for in the last days of his life by Clevedon Court Nursing Home. We could not have asked for better care. His every need was catered for by all the staff. We were always greeted with smiles and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend this home to anyone needing their
loved one to be looked after.

My son and I were both very impressed with the nursing home when we visited prior to my wife moving in. All the staff were very friendly, courteous and willing to help. Being able to have her hair cut and blow-dried was wonderful for her. We both really enjoyed the singer one afternoon and have a photograph
to remind us of the occasion. When she was taken ill on a Saturday evening the staff were quick to call me and the ambulance. It was found to be necessary to admit her to the hospital where she is slowly recovering. Without their quick action, the outcome would have been very different. I am very impressed with the professional and compassionate way that my wife was cared for and would recommend Clevedon Court Nursing Home to anybody looking for good nursing care.

Since my mother has been a resident at this nursing home I have found all management and staff extremely polite, helpful and caring. Nothing is too much trouble. My mother is very happy at Clevedon Court Nursing Home even though she was initially very much against being admitted to a nursing home. Thank
you one and all at this home.

The staff are very caring. My wife was a resident from February to mid-August and was well cared for.
There were two safeguarding issues which were dealt with to my satisfaction. Staff are friendly, never harassed, short-tempered or impatient.
Kindly, management always has time for relatives. A good
family atmosphere. Staff regard their work as a vocation rather than a job.

How time flies! One whole year! My wife was admitted to Clevedon Court in August 2018, after she had been in hospital for eight weeks recovering from a hip replacement operation. She is profoundly disabled by very advanced Parkinsons Disease and also suffers chronic pain from major cervical spine damage.
However, I firmly believe it is due to the efforts of the magnificent staff at this wonderful Nursing Home that my wife is now looking forward to her 85th birthday! They work tirelessly and do everything in their power to make sure she is comfortable and well looked after, and her life is as fulfilled and bearable as it is possible to be. I am a regular visitor and it is a pleasure to witness the enormous amount of tender, loving care they constantly lavish upon her. Congratulations and sincere thanks to everyone involved. You are the best.

When my mother came to the home we didn't hold much hope changing from a care home to a nursing home. After a few days in hospital, her time at Clevedon Court has improved since Christmas. Never thought she would have pulled through but good medication, plus good recovery plan put in place she is a
delight to see at almost 93 years of age. Thank you Clevedon Court.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.411)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.411) out of 10 for Clevedon Court Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.411 for Clevedon Court Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (27 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 56 Ratings = 4.411
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Clevedon Court Nursing Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.5
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
