As my mother was an emergency placement by social services into this nursing home for assessment of need for permanent care, it is fair to say it was a little awkward. However, it became very clear that the management team were only going to show a high level of care if her placement was to be permanent.
The general care staff seemed confused at times, there were some obvious mistakes which could have been taken quite seriously, especially regarding information being given to family that did not relate to my mother!
But I feel the home was very clean, needed to offer maybe more stimulation to residents and review the meals.
Reply from Adrian Esland, Director at Albert House Nursing Home

All at Albert House are devastated that your Mother was unhappy with so many aspects of her stay with us. We thought she loved it here and she was terribly upset leaving us, this was a funding issue and certainly not in our control. Your Mother took part in various activities nearly every day of her stay including attending church, live entertainment, hairdresser, aromatherapy, as well as staff activities including cards, doing nails, various games and most important chats. Staff especially liked to talk to her as she was so popular and the staff have shown this in our system. So the management are both surprised, confused and upset that her stay is viewed in such a poor light. If we had known your Mother had these issues with Albert House we would have moved heaven and earth to correct them. Therefore we do apologise to your Mother for her experience and thank you for bringing them to our attention and we will strive to do better.

This excellent home continues to provide a safe, caring environment for my 97-year-old mother. She is always happy and well cared for. I have no worries whatsoever that she will spend her remaining days under the warm umbrella of Albert House.

My husband was admitted to Albert House in May 2013. He had previously been in another care home (also excellent), but after a month in hospital he was unable to walk and needed nursing home care. He was cared for in Albert House for 3 1/2 years. He was always treated with dignity and respect. He
always wore his own clothes. His room was always spotlessly clean. He was unable to move himself, or feed himself, but he was always, day and night, turned every 2 hours. All staff were caring at all times. My family and I visited regularly and were all welcomed and kept informed about his welfare. We had confidence in the staff at all times. My husband died, peacefully, in October 2016.

My mother has admitted to Albert House in late May, the owner was very helpful and supportive. All members of staff showed efficiency with care. The home itself is welcoming with a unique decoration to stimulate residents to interact. I would highly recommend this nursing home.

Mum was only in Albert House for about 3 weeks for 'end of life' care but all the staff were amazing and helped us at this sad time. They could not have been more supportive to all of the family. The love and care they showed mum was wonderful. Thank you to them all.

Very friendly and caring staff. Nothing was too much for them to do if I asked.
Always checking on the residents that everything was alright.
The owners were there most of the time and would always talk to you of any concerns which was very nice if you had any.
The app which you could access via
the internet devices to see how my relative was doing was an innovation to me.

It is difficult to see how they could offer better care. The nursing staff and carers are all so kind and caring, nothing is too much trouble and they all have the patience of saints. All the rooms have private facilities and are well equipped. The whole place is lovely and clean and a pleasure to visit.
The owners are a charming couple and I have no hesitation in recommending this nursing home if you need care.

After looking at other Homes it was a relief to walk into Albert House Nursing Home and feel it's calm family atmosphere. My fathers stay here was sadly all too short but it is comforting to know he was in safe and caring hands. He was well looked after and always clean and smartly dressed, something
that was important to him. His ensuite room was light and welcoming, calls for assistance were answered promptly. I was kept up to date on his care and well being. All staff are helpful, friendly, supportive and caring, both to residents and family members.

My Mother-in-law had a week stay at Albert House Nursing Home, whilst her husband was in the hospital. We were instantly reassured of her well-being and safety during her stay, given the professionalism of the Owner, Managers and staff along with the cleanliness of facilities, quality of the room décor
and equipment. Each member of staff gave us time and attention and was keen to get know my Mother-in-law, taking the time to stop and chat and encourage her to join in activities during her short stay. A lovely home that I would recommend.

Albert House feels different to most other nusrning homes. The place is clean, bright, airy, well kept and smells like a hotel, not a nursing home. Even more important, the faces of the residents are calm and even smiling. Staff are always on the move - helping, talking, caring and checking. - and
always with a smile and a kind word. It is evident that each resident is treated as an individual and not just another old person to be managed.
Care is well planned and agreed. My mother is clean, well fed, calm and smiles at the staff who treat her with a perfect mix of dignity and warm friendliness. It is the only place in Weston which gave me the comfort that I was doing the best thing for my Mum. Last of all the staff are kind not only to residents but to their concerned and often distressed relatives. I think I had as much care as Mum the week she moved in and I would not have managed without them.

My father was in Albert House from August 2013 until he died in April 2014. When mum became too frail to stay by herself at home we suggested that she have a fortnight's break to regain her strength. She received a home assessment and was admitted the same day. We received a warm welcome from everyone-
several members of the staff remembered dad and all the family. Mum died in less than a week- our loss has been helped so much knowing that she was cared for by loving, caring experts in beautiful surroundings with excellent facilities.

My father has been here for three years and the care and food are first rates. The staff in the summer take them out in wheelchairs along the sea front and visits to the other places. The meals are very nice and plenty for the residents. All bedrooms are roomy with TV. After seeing other Weston care
homes this one must be one of the best.

I feel I would like to fill in this review form as I could not speak highly of Albert House Nursing Home and it's staff. My mother has been here for 18 months. She is always clean and presentable. There are always lots of staff who are happy and smiling and interacting with the residents. I even see
the managers are involved and hands on, which is very unusual.
Albert House is always clean and smells nice and fresh. Mums own ensuite room is always clean. There seems to ba a lot of activities going on. Also, there is a good choice of food and drink.
I live 120 miles away but I feel very fortunate that my mum is settled in such a lovely home. I come and visit every four weeks to see her.

Albert House is very personal centred. I am really impressed. They have listened to my mother-in-law and carer workers have the knowledge of her likes and dislikes and of her previous life before care, she is given choices on food and drinks, what clothes she would like to wear. She has her hair done
weekly also her nails done which she loves.
Although my mum-in-law does not have the capacity to make long-term decisions she still has capacity for day to day decisions. Albert House is listening to her and her opinions count. She is always well presented, clean and smartly dressed. On our arrival management always greet us by our first names and they even know our dog's name.
I must say I am very impressed and pleased that mother-in-law is in such a happy, safe environment.

My mother has been at Albert House for nearly two years and her health has actually improved during this time. The hygiene standards are excellent and the en-suite facilities are immedicably clean. Probably the best aspect of this care home, though, is the staff! The owners and their employees are all
very kind, caring and friendly people.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.070)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.070) out of 10 for Albert House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.682 for Albert House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (15 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 22 Ratings = 4.682
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.388 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Albert House Nursing Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.263
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
