The gardens are pretty with numerous places and opportunities to relax and enjoy the breathtaking views.
The team are very pleased to have counted many former locals from the village amongst their residents and they feel a special bond with the community.
The very friendly and proficient management team and all the lovely staff have a wide range of expertise and knowledge, and everyone really enjoys working together to make every day special for the lovely residents.
Whilst being a homely environment, Eshcol House is well stocked with any necessary equipment to help residents who need more help to make the most of their day. There are dedicated activities staff to ensure everyone has a variety of things to do, to encourage the lovely communal feel the home has developed over the years.
The local GP surgery is around a very short corner and the home has a named doctor who is their contact. On admission your relative will be transferred to this practice and will meet the doctor at the earliest opportunity for a review.

This was a rare visit to my 98yr old aunt. Julie very welcoming on previous phonecall + in person on the day. Staff I met were helpful + friendly - My aunt seemed positive + very grateful for the kind staff + her room. She anticipated getting to 100yrs !!

The staff are kind, patient and even when busy take time to chat. My mother has a room with a lovely sea view which she greatly appreciates because she is now totally bedbound. Her activities are tv, radio, looking at books and family visits. I think staff do try to encourage residents to come downstairs for meals and activities (yoga, music, garden visits) but the layout of the old building makes using a wheel chair tricky and going outside with family difficult. The food is pretty good and freshly prepared. Our family have all visited mum often and found the care home to be welcoming and generally well run. She needs a high level of personal care, is elderly and poorly but she is mentally ok (meaning ideally there could be more socially for her but not easy I know). This kind of care is not cheap (!) and its not like being 'back home', however mum is generally comfortable and she feels safe.

Firstly, thank you for leaving such a sterling review. You have said some very lovely things which we appreciate. However, I note the low rating you give against the food category. Following much discussion with residents we realise that some of the recent menu choices may have not been up to our usual standard. Plus we have the difficult issue of keeping it at the optimum temperature whilst it reaches the residents who choose to eat in their rooms, such as your mum. This is one of the main issues that we are currently dealing with. We are treating this matter with a lot of importance and we hope that things will be improving shortly.

For an old building our housekeeping team work extremely hard to maintain top levels of infection control and cleanliness. I was pleased to note your brother is enjoying the food as this is a subject we are paying close attention to at the moment. The last 6 weeks have not left us feeling disappointed on the contrary, each and every member of staff we have had contact with has demonstrated the utmost professionalism , warmth and a real interest in making mum's stay the best it possibly could be. She chose to come down most days, would happily chat to everyone and I cannot think of a single instance when she said I wish I was at home. It was a pleasure to meet you all and thank you again.

All the staff throughout out the home were so polite and helpful you couldn't fault their care and professionalism.
The care home is situated at just off the main road leading into Portscatho with an amazing sea view. It's a little short on parking but I did find a space every time I visited. The home was a hotel quite sometime ago so the corridors are fairly narrow but they have made good use of alcoves and storage spaces so everyone can move around freely.
Overall it has a nice homely feeling and it couldn't be more welcoming.
