Eshcol House Nursing Home is a wonderful place to live, located in one of the most beautiful parts of the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The property is situated a very short distance from the beach, and the views from many of the rooms are truly exceptional, from the Portscatho beaches 'Tatums' and 'The Porth' across Gerrans Bay with the famous Gull Rock, Nare Head and Dodman Point in full view. The gardens are pretty with numerous places and opportunities to relax and enjoy the breathtaking views.

The team are very pleased to have counted many former locals from the village amongst their residents and they feel a special bond with the community.

The very friendly and proficient management team and all the lovely staff have a wide range of expertise and knowledge, and everyone really enjoys working together to make every day special for the lovely residents.

Whilst being a homely environment, Eshcol House is well stocked with any necessary equipment to help residents who need more help to make the most of their day. There are dedicated activities staff to ensure everyone has a variety of things to do, to encourage the lovely communal feel the home has developed over the years.

The local GP surgery is around a very short corner and the home has a named doctor who is their contact. On admission your relative will be transferred to this practice and will meet the doctor at the earliest opportunity for a review.

Get in touch with the team to arrange to meet them and see what they're like.

A relative has lived at Eschol House since early last year (25). Very frail on entry, now much improved, due to regular medicine regime.
The staff are friendly and although busy, are available to chat. Support offered reflects what the resident will accept.
Overall, a positive experience.
A personal
issue is that it is quite distant from where I live. Visits are not as often as they could be.
Reply from Julie Kahn, Clinical Assessor at Eshcol House Nursing HomeThank you so much for your review which is much appreciated and it's so unfortunate that we are such a distance from your home. We're pleased that your relative is now much improved as we take great pride in our nursing and care standards.

Caring friendly Nursing home where guests are treated with respect and kindness - they do not pretend to have all bells and whistles (thankfully) but provide safety and everything necessary. Chef also very good . My mother came for care and respite after a hospital admission and even though it was
Christmas could not have been better looked after . Beautiful location too with lovely sea/village views from the lounge area.
Reply from Julie Kahn, Clinical Assessor at Eshcol House Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind review. Please give our regards to your mum and give Daphne the daxie a hug. What a sweet dog.

A wonderful experience for my 87 year old mother in law. She has no mobility and the nursing care she receives is second to none. She will be leaving this lovely care home in January to return to her home and she will really miss it. The food is excellent. The staff are excellent. Always cheerful and
willing to work to keep her happy and safe. Thank you so much Eschol. We will miss our visits to see Granny when she leaves. Thank you once again for everything.
Reply from Julie Kahn, Clinical Assessor at Eshcol House Nursing HomeWow, a review to be splashed everywhere. Thank you so much, Rob for such wonderful words. It's an absolute pleasure to have your mother in law here, we don't want her to leave as she has now become part of the Eshcol Family. My mother stayed at Eshcol house between August and Sept 2025. The staff there were absolutely brilliant. Julie on the front desk always greeted with you with a smile and a brief up date. Communication from Monica our the nurse is always up to date with all the medical info.

All the staff throughout

out the home were so polite and helpful you couldn't fault their care and professionalism.

The care home is situated at just off the main road leading into Portscatho with an amazing sea view. It's a little short on parking but I did find a space every time I visited. The home was a hotel quite sometime ago so the corridors are fairly narrow but they have made good use of alcoves and storage spaces so everyone can move around freely.

Overall it has a nice homely feeling and it couldn't be more welcoming.

Reply from Julie Kahn, Clinical Assessor at Eshcol House Nursing HomeThank you Phil for such a sterling review. I am so glad that you found Eshcol House such a good home. We might not have the glitz that a lot of places have but we have such a high standard of care and the capabilities and heart shown by each and every member of the team more than make up for the lack of chandeliers and fancy furniture. It was a pleasure to welcome you and your sister here and I wish you both all the very best for the future.

My mother has moved to Eschol House following a fall and a long stay in hospital.
Her recovery whilst with Eschol House has been a pleasure to watch with her mobility improving markedly and her spirits improving all the time.
The staff have been relentlessly positive and supportive and have made a
huge difference to my mother who is regaining her confidence and cheerful disposition.

Right from my initial contact with the team at Eshcol to Mum moving in nothing has been too much trouble and the move has been made as smooth as possible.
All the staff are lovely, friendly and very caring and have made Mum feel very welcome. They have also encouraged her to join in some of the activities
which is great.
It has been a tough few months for Mum after a bad fall and breaking her hip meaning she could no longer live at home and finding Eshcol has been a great relief for the family knowing she is in a friendly local home and receiving all the care she needs.
The food is great and this too has improved Mum's outlook not to mention the lovely sea view from her room.
Thank you to all the team at Eshcol.

Reply from Julie Kahn, Clinical Assessor at Eshcol House Nursing HomeAngus, thank you very much for such a splendid review. I can really see the difference in your mum from when I first went to assess her in the hospital to the lady that you see now. I do understand how overwhelming it can be, coming from your own home and suddenly having to cope with a real change in routine plus many new faces and names to remember. Your mum seems so much more relaxed and it's lovely to see her down here joining in with ground floor activities. She also makes really good shortbread as there was a baking afternoon and I got to hers first (your brother had told me she was a biscuit ace).

My father was in Eshcol House from November 2024 until late May 2025.
In that time I was able to visit regularly and always considered him to have excellent care.
Although the facilities were fine, the most outstanding feature was the care given by
the staff.
This was of huge importance to me and
I was always very happy with it.
I believe that made all the difference to my dad's happy time there.
Reply from Julie Kahn, Clinical Assessor at Eshcol House Nursing HomeThank you so much for leaving this lovely review. As someone who has been here so long that I first knew your dad when he was an Eshcol visitor to his late wife it was bitter sweet (if you know what I mean)to welcome him back here as a resident. Your dad was a first-class gentleman, kind and wise, and I really appreciate your kind words about the care given to him by our wonderful team. All the very best to you and your husband and please try and pop in when you come back to Cornwall.

I'd visited my friend several times before and as usual, I was favorably struck by the tidiness of Eschol House. A nice pleasantly clean atmosphere. My friend who has been bedridden for around 4 years was pleased to see me and settled in for a long chat. Intermittently, a knock on the door, a head poked
around it and a voice "everythin ok" offer of refreshments for my friend - and for me. Staff demonstrated a caring attitude throughout.
Reply from Julie Kahn, Clinical Assessor at Eshcol House Nursing HomeBill, thank you so much for your very kind words giving welcome feedback about when you come to visit your friend. A fantastic care home set in the beautiful Cornish village of Porthscatho. The staff are brilliant and truly care about their residents. My Mother in law has been living there for about a year and had been extremely ill prior to moving to Eshcol. With their care and support she has made a full recovery.
A definite recomend!
Reply from Julie Kahn, Clinical Assessor at Eshcol House Nursing HomeThank you so much for your review. It is lovely to read such appreciative words and I will share them with the team. As your mother in law spends the majority of her day down on the ground floor she really enjoys the frequent comings and goings that happen at this level. She and I also share a few laughs as we are in direct eyeline with each other (things happen and I know what she's thinking) and she's such a happy person it rubs off on the rest of us.

Lovely caring staff the food is excellent quality mum well looked after with a great choice of activities to keep her occupied we are always made to feel very welcomed. When we visit even the children are well happy with the treats provided which is a bonus
Reply from Julie Kahn, Clinical Assessor at Eshcol House Nursing HomeJason, thank you so much for this great review which I will share with the team. Your mum spends her day down in the lounge and seems to really enjoy being part of the hustle and bustle on the ground floor. I sit in line of sight with the residents in that lounge so have a lot of interaction with her and sometimes she will reminisce about her life as a nurse with some fascinating anecdotes. She has her favourite chair with a perfect sea view and it's not the same down here on the rare occasion she decides to stay up in her room.

The transformation in my friend was astonishing. She was unwell before visiting and very unsure and resistant to the idea of even going into a care home. When I invited her two days later, she was relaxed, happy and had regained her zest for life, and was very glad to be in Eshcol. She felt looked after,
enjoyed the company of the staff and wants to move in! She loved her room and being able to see the sea and being able to easily access the garden - her favourite place to be!
Reply from Julie Kahn, Clinical Assessor at Eshcol House Nursing HomeThat is such a lovely review, and the fact that your friend is now coming to Eshcol House as a permanent resident speaks volumes about how easy and comfortable she found her short respite break. The staff were very caring and helped my mother-in-law to make her stay as comfortable as possible. They even let us visit with her cat, which was a great comfort. The lady on reception was great and regularly suggested things that could be done to help my mother-in-law while keeping us informed of
any changes during her stay. We were always welcome to visit at any time and were very confident that she was being looked after and in safe, caring hands.

I spent half an hour with my relative. Two staff left as I arrived having given her some care. Snacks and drinks were available by her bed if required. The atmosphere is bright and happy. All the staff are cheerful and polite. Residents were either visiting in their rooms with door ajar or in the lounge
chatting. We recalled that my mother spend 18 happy months there at the end of her life.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.756)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.756) out of 10 for Eshcol House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 45 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.756 for Eshcol House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (406 Excellents x 5) + (97 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 517 Ratings = 4.756
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Eshcol House Nursing Home is based on 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 31 registered maximum number of service users is 6.2, which has been reached with 45 Positive reviews.
