Mum settled in well to her bright little room with toilet for her two weeks respite. Excellent communication with that personal touch, which I appreciated. Mum's routine stuck, but despite being 99, going downstairs for meals etc, allowed her to keep her independence and mobility, enabling her to come home to me and manage the stairs twice a day. Everyone was friendly and caring, with that real “family” feeling. Nursing care is good. Would recommend. The only thing I would say is that it's a shame there were no activities that Mum could’ve participated in, such as bingo, raffle, games, singing or exercises, but that obviously depends on the nursing needs of the clientele at the time. Mum is more than happy at 99 to spend her time snoozing in the chair. Although Mum wasn’t bothered, as poor sight, the refreshing sea views for me would be a Godsend.
Thank you for your kind words, I'm delighted that you were pleased with your mum's care and obviously, being a medical person yourself, you understand what goes into running a nursing home. Regarding your point on activities, I cannot disagree and we have often discussed that more could be and will...
My mum has never had to go into respite care at all and was very reluctant to go to Eschol House. She has now completely changed her attitude towards Eschol. According to her, the staff were all amazing, the meals were delicious, especially the puddings and she now has no worries about going to Eschol house again if needed.
Thank you very much for your review and I am so happy that your mum had such a positive experience, Annmarie. We look forward to a return visit.
My sister was transferred to Eshcol in June 2023 from hospital. She was sent to another hospital in February, from there to another hospital and from there back to the previous and from there to another hospital. By now she was quite ill and needed respite care. On transfer to Eshcol, there was a transformation. She had a comfortable room and a view of the garden. Quite quickly she recovered her personality and interest in life because of the attention she was given. The food was good and there was an excellent choice each day. Although she was not able to leave her room very often she didn’t feel lonely because of the care from the staff. Everyone was so very friendly and attentive. I could not fault them. They supported me through many weeks of visiting and nothing was too much trouble. When she died 2 weeks ago, the dignity and respect given to her and to me were quite overwhelming. Eshcol’s greatest asset is the staff because of their kindness and care.
Thank you so much for your very kind words. It's never easy to see the people we love become so ill and between your frequent visits and a lot of time that we all spent with her, I hope we made this difficult situation more bearable for her. I'm just glad her cat was able to join her in the room...
It is a huge comfort to be able to walk away after visiting a very special man in our lives, who can no longer look after himself, and just know that he is in a peaceful and beautiful place, where understanding his individual needs and appreciating who he is as a person is central to the total care he receives. Thank you to you all at Eschol House.
Thank you for such lovely words. I've just read them out to the team and it just helps everyone feel that little bit better. His room has a lovely calm feel and come next Spring when the new plantings are established and garden furniture is in situ it will be a lovely space for the family to sit in and relax alongside your family member.
During this initial visit to discuss his needs, the Clinical Assessor and colleagues showed enormous empathy, compassion and professionalism.
Now settled in the home, the transition from a long hospital stay to this friendly home, has been one of calm and peacefulness for my husband.
Thank you to you all, I can sleep easy at night knowing he is being well looked after.
Thank you so much for your lovely review, we are pleased you feel we are meeting your husband's needs so well. It's so good when everything works out perfectly and with the special mood lamp and the ambient chill music his room is a real peaceful haven.
All the staff were a delight; always smiling, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The management was very professional and helpful.
Thank you so much for your very kind words, which are much appreciated.
Although Dad wasn’t a resident for very long, I found all staff members treated him like someone they had known for years. The level of care was exceptional. We (the family) were all well looked after too, with meals and tea prepared and brought to us and friendly and approachable staff always available to answer any questions. The setting of Eshcol House is perfect for providing a calming feeling as well. When it’s getting a bit much, being able to walk down to the beach or stroll through the village really helped keep us all together. I can’t praise the staff highly enough for helping make Dad's last days as comfortable and dignified as possible.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We're very proud that you considered the care we gave to your father exceptional. We would really like to meet with you to discuss the star ratings you gave us, as it is our aim to give a five-star service and we would like to have a chat to see how you feel we could improve our service. I really hope you get in touch with us to come in and share your views.
Everyone in Eshcol Nursing Home is excellent. The home and the nursing is excellent and very caring. All the visitors were treated so well and wonderful food. You feel like part of the family and are given such a welcome. Anything you ask for, it’s delivered. Excellent. Thank you all.
Thank you so much for your very splendid review of Eshcol House. With very best wishes to you.
The staff at Eshcol House were caring, thoughtful and looked after the resident and the people who were visiting. It’s a lovely location and when visiting you can take a break and enjoy the beach or go on walks and enjoy the view. Sadly, our loved one was not able to enjoy this, as he was so unwell. It did mean we could all visit during his last few days and stay as long we wanted and the staff were always there to answer any questions or help. I would fully recommend this care home with no hesitation. Thank you for your great care of all of us.
It's very kind of you to leave a review, as I do realise this is a very sad time for you all. Eshcol House rightly takes palliative care very seriously and will do whatever we can to support the family during this time. Please pass on our best regards to the rest of the family.
I have marked the rooms as well as safety and security down one star, as obviously the home isn’t purpose built. The room layout and height of windows could be improved upon, so residents have a more interesting view. Better electrical things would be useful, so residents can reach things such as a bedside light or mobile phone. It is difficult when people are bedbound, they need things at hand to be in control.
If bedbound and on the upper floor, I’m unsure how residents would get out in an emergency, for example a fire. Building work is being completed at present and, as far as I am aware, this is providing a route to the outside from the top floor. Regular smoke detector and fire alarm tests are completed, so this calms my mind presently.
Thank you! This is July’s star review as it gives us an opportunity to look at our service from a different perspective. Changing the heights of the windows in some rooms has been explored. It is far more complicated than we thought! We do have challenges with increased personal devices, we’ll look...
When my grandmother was no longer able to be looked after in her home, the decision was made to move her into a nursing home and, wow, I'm so glad this is the home that was chosen! All the concerns I had with leaving her in someone else's care were diminished straight away with the warmest of welcomes. The staff are so genuine and caring and, from observations made around the home, they truly do treat the residents as one big family. Everyone is always smiling, even if under pressure, it would never be shown. The dedication of the team, to make sure the residents are settled, happy and overall have all their needs met, is outstanding. The home is also spotless and the food offered is of a very high standard. My nan has settled extremely well and that's all thanks to the amazing staff. After my weekly visits, I always come away knowing she is in safe hands.
Hi Emma, thank you so much for such a smashing review. Your grandmother settled in right from the word go and I know how much she enjoys all the family visits. The Eshcol team also enjoy relatives coming in because we've always said we end up getting almost as close to the families as to the residents. See you soon.
My brother-in-law has been a resident at Eschol House for nine years. As someone who has lost the ability to care for himself and who is totally dependent on others, it is good to know that he is truly cared for by people who are interested in providing him with such a high level of care. I know that during his stay, my brother-in-law has received excellent one to one care, interaction and entertainment from all the staff. I am only able to visit a few times a year, but when I do the Eschol staff are always courteous, kind and friendly to me. As someone who has worked in a residential care home (and has been a chaplain to one), I know how important it is to include everyone in the care given; residents, family and friends alike. Eschol House does this at an exemplary level. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your review. We are always pleased to know that relatives feel we are meeting the needs of our residents. I will share your review with the team.
We found Eshcol House warm, welcoming and well-run. It has a lovely 'fresh' feel and smells of good food too! Everyone was so helpful and genuinely dedicated to their guests. They spent many hours with me, explaining how everything works there and reassuring me. Also, ringing and checking how Dad was doing, even after he left the home.
Thank you so much for leaving such a lovely review. I'm so glad that you found us warm, welcoming and well-run. It's refreshing for us to have a resident well enough to return home. Your dad is a delight (I know you know this, haha) and I do miss the chats he and I had. I will always remember him...
Mum was moved to the home back in March after not managing at home, as she needs twenty-four hour care. We’ve seen a huge improvement in her health since being here. Each time we’ve visited, we’ve been made to feel welcome and were even given lunch the other day. Our three children are always given crisps, chocolate and a can of drink and are allowed to play out on the balcony, where they wave and speak to the lovely gentleman in the next room to Mum. Every single staff member we have met have been wonderful and friendly. We would recommend this home to anyone who is looking for a care home that has that 'home from home' feel.
Thank you so much for your feedback. I am delighted that you feel we are meeting your mum's needs so well. At Eshcol we end up getting almost as close to family members as to the resident themselves. You're very welcome to book in for lunch any time and we hope to see you again soon.
I’m absolutely amazed at how helpful and caring everyone is in this home my mother could not wish for such a beautiful home the care and love that everyone gives is just truly amazing the food is amazing and whatever my mum would like to eat she is given it nothing is to much for the staff to do the doctors device is amazing I’m so glad my mum is in this home as an experienced caregiver my self I’m absolutely delighted that my mum is in this home.
As you're in the business, and know how hard this work can be - and rewarding in equal measure - your review meant so very much to us. Thank you so much and we are delighted that you feel we are meeting your mum's needs so well.
We really like Eshcol House Nursing Home, they have made my nan feel very settled in a unsettling time. The staff are very kind and friendly. The food is fabulous and the kitchen staff will do their best to meet everyone's needs.
Lovely review, thank you so much. Book yourselves in for meals more often.
All the best.
That is such a lovely review, Richard. Thank you so much. Any time your mum wishes to have another break with us, she's one of our favourites.
Home visits were facilitated whilst she was also staying at Eshcol House and transport was all organised by them to ensure she could still have a little time with family at her home. The bedroom she occupied had a wonderful sea view, which the home also encouraged to personalise with her own belongings, and was enjoyed in her last days.
Thank you for such a lovely review. Everyone should have a friend like you in their life as I remember your initial phone call which enabled us to pencil in a bed reservation at a very busy time for us. That meant that your friend was able to be admitted seamlessly following a quick assessment. As...
We were familiar with Eschol House Nursing Home because Dad had spent time staying there. When Mum was recovering from an illness and temporarily needed nursing care, we were very pleased that Eschol House was able to offer her a room. The staff are so kind and friendly and we knew that Mum would be in very good hands. Mum's stay was only ever planned as a temporary measure but, as we had expected, the staff could not have been kinder and Mum felt very well cared for whilst she was there.
Sarah, thank you so much for leaving this review. It was a pleasure to have your mum with us and please pass on our best regards.
Encouraging us to eat with our poorly dad, giving us meals.
Treats for my daughter.
Really kind and friendly.
A big family of carers.
Thank you for all that you do.
That is such a lovely review, Richard. I read it out over the walkie talkie, and it lifted the mood. Thank you for those words.
