My dad has been at Eschol for 9 months. We cannot praise them enough. He has been so happy and tended the staff are amazing. They have spent so much time with him and showed nothing but respect and dignity. He built up a lot of trust with them which for my dad is not easy. The food is fantastic, friendly chefs with varied options. I cannot praise you all enough and would recommend it to anyone. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. It was a pleasure to get to know your dad and to see you all come in so regularly. It's a shame for us he moved to be nearer to you all but it is so much better for the family to have him closer. I'll miss our chats and please remember us to your mum and dad. Your dad is one special man.

This care home is a small but friendly care home that cares greatly for the residents. There is nothing they cannot do to help residents acclimatise to their new surroundings.

The carers and staff are very friendly, helpful and professional. The room is ideal for Mum, with wonderful sea views. There are plenty of activities and a lovely garden. We are very pleased with Mum's care.

Thank you so much for your lovely review and we are delighted with how well your mum has become one of the Eshcol family. At times she is more like a volunteer with her dancing, her piano playing, and leading us all in a singsong. She is a joy to be around and sooner or later we will persuade you to listen to our duet with Danny Boy, you can't avoid it forever!

Review from L C (Relative of Resident) published on 25 July 2024 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

I have rung Eshcol House on 2 or 3 occasions before we came down on Monday and the staff have been so lovely and helpful. They obviously really care about our relative and know when she is feeling up to speaking, so when we came down on Monday it was obviously not a good time. She was tired and had already had a visitor. We came again on Tuesday to give some family photos and a letter and the carer suggested we look in to see if she was up to seeing us. She was, and seemed really pleased to see us so I can't thank the staff enough. They had even researched her relative's husband who she misses, so they could talk to her about him. Wonderful people and place.

Reply from Julie Kahn, Clinical Assessor at Eshcol House Nursing Home

Thank you so much for your very kind words. It was so lovely to meet you on that Tuesday morning and I'm glad that the visit went ahead so well. When your relative first mentioned her husband to me when I met her in the hospital he sounded so fascinating that I was sure there would be info online...

The first thing that strikes you when walking into Eschol Nursing Home is what a lovely atmosphere there is. The staff are, without exception friendly and cheerful. The residents are well cared for, and there appears always to be plenty of staff around and busy. There is a pleasant lounge where residents are encouraged to partake in the plentiful activities that are on offer. Also available are activities for room-bound residents. The food is fantastic and well presented; great choices, and as many ingredients as possible locally sourced. The home is very clean and tidy too. To summarise I would like to say how happy I am to have my father staying here. When you see the whole package in operation it makes you realise that it is very good value for money. He is continually well cared for with kindness, respect and dignity. It is a joy to visit him in Eshcol, where visitors as well as residents are made to feel exceptionally welcome.

Thank you so much for this glowing review. I just read it out to the team and it acted like a tonic. The team here are always trying their best to do their best and sometimes words like this just give us that boost. It's lovely going in to see your dad, and getting that smile on his face when he spots a sailing boat going by.

Very friendly staff. My mother-in-law was welcomed in after a fall at home. Her care was fantastic - regular Doctor visits during her recovery. Detailed updates to the family. Above all a real sense that she was welcome and her care (mental and physical) was paramount. She has a beautiful view from her room and frequent visits from staff and family. At present she is bedbound. She always seems cheerful and has no end of praise for the staff.

My mum has been living at Eshcol House for several months, and she seems happy and comfortable there. The building is a little shabby, but apart from that it's a very good care home. The important things are there - the people are kind and take time to chat with everyone. The balance between encouraging social engagement and letting people be seems about right. The only criticism I would make is that the service alarm often seems to be on for some time. Overall it has a very good feel to the place. My mum grew up in Cornwall, so having a view of the sea means a lot to her.

Thank you so much for taking the time to submit a review. We have a continuous service improvement plan in place - both for the building and the delivery of person-centred care - and are committed to delivering a quality service. The period from May '24 is the third period of respite care I have taken with Eshcol and I always look forward to my return here. It's like a holiday to me. The carers are wonderful, and so kind and respectful. Everything is clean and orderly, and the food is excellent. The rooms are big and, if you can get a sea view, even better!

I live about 500 miles from Eshcol. My sister-in-law was transferred with her consent from a very good retirement home complex under difficult personal circumstances. The staff have always been very helpful and when we have phoned offered to take the phone to her. They kept us informed as to her condition and on one occasion they phoned us during the night to advise of her problem, with a follow-up the next morning. They made her very comfortable in her final days.

Thank you so much for your review. What a shame you were unable to travel here to see for yourself the quality of her sea view room, taste the delicious food our catering staff prepare (when people come from a distance we offer them lunch) and see the high standards our housekeeping team follow in...

What an amazing care home, everyone is so kind and considerate. Dad has been with the team here for nearly a year and has settled in so well. Care is first class, food is of a high standard and Dad is delighted when I bring the family dog in for a visit also.

This is a real gem of a place and would recommend it to anyone looking for a safe, happy, and settling environment for themselves or a family member.

Thank you so much for your very kind words. We enjoy your Dad sitting down in the lounge and listening to the banter between him and the other residents is very entertaining. My experience of care homes only relates to that of my grandparents and recently of my father. My eyes have now been opened as to what a truly wonderful nursing home really is!
Eschol House is a true gem, from the moment the manager came to meet Dad in the hospital we realised how fate had played a hand. We were so reassured he would be happy and in good hands and even though we lived at the other end of the country we were constantly kept updated. Looking back now my only regret is that he didn't go there sooner. His room was very comfortable and stunning views, the staff go above and beyond, they are the Eschol family he joined. The care was simply second to none, nothing was too much, hats off to them for everything they did for all our family!

I urge anyone to look beyond the posh mask of bigger known care homes and discover this amazing hidden gem. If you want 5-star care and an extended family for your loved one then Eschol House is it! I would personally go there without any hesitation.

Heidi, your words have touched each and every one of us - thank you so much. It was one of our amazing staff members who first visited your father in hospital and reported back to me how most of the meeting was him talking about how wonderful you are.

It was a pleasure and a privilege to have cared for your father. It was a pleasure and a privilege to have met you and your husband.

We are happy with the excellent care and support we have received from all the staff at Eshcol House Nursing Home. They have supported us all through the difficult time of Dad leaving his own home and moving to a Nursing Home. It is a great relief to know that Dad is safe, well cared for and happy in his new home. We are especially grateful that Dad is taken out for a walk which he thoroughly enjoys. Food is excellent, coffee we are working on.

Thank you so much for your review. I'm glad that the family feel supported as the Eshcol team usually end up becoming almost as close to the families as to the actual resident themselves. Dad moved into Eshcol House at the end of August a bit apprehensive and concerned as he had never been to a care home before. He has settled in really well, and all the staff are very attentive and caring.

Reply from Julie Kahn, Clinical Assessor at Eshcol House Nursing Home

Thank you so much for your kind words. It's lovely how settled in and comfortable your dad seems to be. He's a regular sight around the village now when he goes out accompanied by one of the activity gang and he never seems to mind how chilly it is. The sea breeze is a real tonic for all of us down here. Hope you come down again soon.

My mother-in-law has only been here for a few months. In that time the staff have been very caring and friendly, nothing is a problem. The food is excellent and when visiting you are offered a drink. The bedroom has a beautiful view over the bay. The kitchen staff adjust the menu for individual people when that person doesn't want what is on the menu. The staff are always available to answer any questions and are happy to try any suggestions. My family would recommend this nursing home, can't praise them enough.

Sue, thank you for your review. Your mother-in-law was a lovely lady and when she was able to be up sitting by the window it was great to see her joy at monitoring the outside world. With that room and its view of the street, the garden and the sea it was perfect for her and I'm sorry it wasn't for longer. it was a pleasure to get to know you all however briefly.
