My grandmother was sent here from hospital for respite and she and I decided that she should stay. Despite never wanting to go into care my grandmother is content and genuinely gets on with staff. Despite not being mobile she is encouraged and helped to join in with activities (occasionally as that
is enough for her). Despite being mainly bed bound she's been able to see the hairdresser Opticion and some entertainment including animals visiting. There always seems to be a smiling face around. She was baked a cake for her birthday which was a lovey touch.
Being solely responsible for my grandmother has been a lot for me but the staff have been very approachable and empathetic and always free to chat.
I can't comment particularly on food or facilities because I haven't seen that but I can say my fussy grandmother is looking well here!
Reply from Scott Davies, Registered Manager at Redmount Residential HomeThank you for your lovely review, this means a lot to me and my team and helps ensure we are providing the best care possible.
Your grandmother is very much loved by us all and is a pleasure to look after.
As always if you ever want to chat my office door is always open.

Wonderful to see Sally looking so radiant and happy in a wonderfully calmly decorated room. She loves the thoughtfully considered paintings reflecting nature. The staff, from the very well sportev + friendly care working, the friendliness of the lady on the desk + the manager, Scott. All were so easy,
approachable, available to listen. The house has a super feel of calm and homeliness because of the team who work there.
Reply from Scott Davies, Registered Manager at Redmount Residential HomeThank you so much for these lovely comments.
I will be sure to pass this over to our staff team who work so very hard to provide a happy place for everyone to enjoy.

My Father was a resident at Redmount since January 2025, during which time the care he received was always friendly and professional. The room he was in was always kept warm and clean and had a wonderful view which Dad enjoyed everyday, watching the world go by.The staff were very caring and friendly,
and Dad built up a nice trust with them and felt secure.
On Dad's death, he was treated with dignity and empathy, and it was very reassuring to see how well he had been looked after, leading up to his passing, and after.
We will always be grateful, as a family, for the care and kindness shown, both to us with our daily visits, and to Dad during his time there.
Reply from Scott Davies, Registered Manager at Redmount Residential HomeThank you so much for your review of Redmount Residential Home, it means a lot to me and my team to hear your kind words.
We truly miss your Dad and it was a pleasure looking after you're family and Dad during a difficult time.

This is my third visit to my friend who has lived here for several months . She seems very settled and happy and looking much healthier than when she arrived. The staff are friendly, helpful and very professional. My friend's needs are met on an individual basis and she finds the staff very good and
the food good too. The environment is welcoming and homely.

Carers are very caring, food also looks nice. The room is kept tidy and clean. They have a hairdresser. Podiatry. Going in to keep their hair cut and nails cut. Also, they have entertainers going in, which is nice. The Manager is very approachable, as is the admin lady. Nothing ever too much trouble
for them

Redmount Care Home in Buckfastleigh has been a blessing for my mum, who was recently admitted with dementia. The staff are incredibly kind, patient, and genuinely caring, making her feel safe, comfortable, and valued from day one. They keep me informed and always go the extra mile to ensure she is happy

Visiting twice in May 2025.Reception received us with courtesy and we were conducted by lift to the day room. There were several residents in the day room. All were fully dressed and seated. There were house staff
around, and we were offered tea.Arrangements were made for us to sit beside our relative. Our
relative was alert and seemed very settled. We did pick our time to avoid mealtimes. The general atmosphere was helpful
and we were impressed by the organisation of several residents in the day room. Our relative was a only
a short time resident, hence some items below are difficult to assess.

My husband was a resident at Redmount for 4.5 months during which time I visited him nearly every day. I found the staff to be very kind, caring and attentive.
For the last six months of my husbands life he was confined to his bed and they looked after his every need.
I also found them very kind

My mum stayed at Redmount for 3 months following stroke and heart attack. I visited 4 hours daily to support recovery so witnessed many of care home's practices. Poor food quality, someone worked hard to suit needs but before complaining mum was often served spaghetti hoops and oily potato waffles.
Mum's rehabilitation needs frequently not met, staff not briefed on positioning and equipment use. Approx 30 mins wait for call bell response and staff often hard to find. Found mum's medication on bed or floor, implying staff weren't always ensuring she'd taken it. Found mum in underwear on chair, end of her bed or more frequently out of reach of her call bell, she is immobile and non-verbal so this is so dangerous and unacceptable. Care staff are supportive but from our experience there are either too many residents or not enough staff. Wide disparity across staff's care abilities and training. Home isn't well managed/led. Wouldn't recommend particularly for residents with high needs.
Reply from Scott Davies, Registered Manager at Redmount Residential HomeThank you for your review of Redmount Residential Home, we welcome all feedback positive or negative as it helps us improve the service we provide. I am sorry that on this occasion you feel we did not meet our usual high standards evidenced in our other reviews and CQC report. Me and my team tried everything possible to make your Mum's experience a positive one within the scope of a care home environment, however we were not able to meet your expectations. I take all your comments on board and I am sorry you feel you couldn't raise these concerns during your Mum's short stay with us, but if you do wish to discuss any of your concerns in more detail please do not hesitate to contact me and we can arrange a suitable time to discuss them.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.669)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.669) out of 10 for Redmount Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.669 for Redmount Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (238 Excellents x 5) + (57 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 311 Ratings = 4.669
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Redmount Residential Home is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
