My Mother was a resident at Woodhayes for just over 2 years. It quickly became home for her and gave her a period where she found peace and contentment after an anxious and difficult period in her own home. She was always treated with great kindness and, in her final illness, with tremendous dignity.
The wonderful team of staff showed a faultless level of care and their sensitivity extended to the whole family. We will always be grateful for their care of her.
Reply from Jonny Roberts, Home Manager at WoodhayesThank you for your very kind review of Brendoncare Woodhayes. It was a real privilege for all the team here to be able to support your mother and all the family. We wish you all the very best.

My father has been a resident here for more than five years. He is almost 98 years with complex health needs and can be difficult but the patience, dedicated care and knowledge of him by the staff, enabled him to settle comfortably and feel secure. This is a place that feels like home - not a hotel
and the staff are caring (to both residents and family) and manage residents with dignity and humour where appropriate.
The management is excellent. There are good levels of communication between staff and families and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. A lovely home in a lovely part of the country.
Reply from Jonny Roberts, Home Manager at WoodhayesThank you for your feedback and your lovely comments. We are really pleased to hear that you and your father believe that Brendoncare Woodhayes feels like his home and that you feel that we communicate well with you. We wish you all the best. Many thanks.

Mum has been at Brendoncare Woodhayes for nearly five years. Within a short period of time, she was much brighter and more alert than she had been when living alone. I can't thank the staff enough for the care they give her - they always have time both for her, and for us when we visit, and I am confident
that she is safe and comfortable. Mum repeatedly tells me she is happy there, that she likes the food and that I have found a good place for her which is gold dust for me. She also joins in the activities and particularly enjoys the art and handicrafts which all help to keep her active (she is now 98). Mum also enjoys time in the garden which has benefitted from the new seating area outside the lounge and ministrations of the Gardner. The staff know Mum well and it is a comfort that many were there when Mum first arrived so there is a continuity in the care she receives and the contact she has with those around her. I know that I can talk to everyone involved in her care - nursing, management and admin- who are genuinely concerned for her welfare. Many thanks indeed.
Reply from Jonny Roberts, Home Manager at WoodhayesThank you for your very kind words. The team at Brendoncare Woodhayes is delighted that you and your mum are happy with the care she receives and that you have confidence in the management and all the staff. It is a privilege to be able to support your mum. We wish you all the best.

The staff are always pleasant and courteous and give Woodhayes a homely atmosphere. They are respectful to the residents and enjoy a chat and a joke. Both the staff and management are very approachable and I feel quite comfortable discussing any issues regarding my mother's care with them. I am kept
informed about my mother's health and I am confident about the care and attention she receives. The home has a well maintained garden which my mother appreciates using during the summer months and the building is well maintained having had recent refurbishment work. An excellent care home.

My mum has Alzheimer's disease. She arrived at Woodhayes following a fairly traumatic 4 week hospital stay. She was distressed, disorientated and sleep deprived. She was unable to understand her new circumstances causing her increasing levels of distress.
The care and attention given to her during
that initial 4 week period was truly remarkable. The care and support given by all staff and two nurses, in particular, was outstanding. They were so supporting of her and did everything they possibly could to make her feel comfortable and safe. They were supportive to us, her family too.
After 6 weeks mum had established a good sleep pattern and had settled into her new routine in her new environment. Throughout her stay mum was treated as an individual and was given person-centred care.
Reply from Jonny Roberts, Home Manager at WoodhayesMany thanks for your review of Brendoncare Woodhayes and the lovely comments you made about the care and support provided to your mum and the family, which I will share with the team here. I note your comment about the activities and am sorry to hear that you found these poor. I am currently reviewing the activity programme in the home and will include your feedback. I wish you and your family all the best.

When I visit Woodhayes, I am ensured of a friendly welcome. I feel I am visiting a family. My aunt, who is a resident, feels the same. She is in the care of a family. The care given to my aunt is excellent. Her needs are continually assessed and anything raised is always followed up.
Woodhayes is a
gem. It has a lovely, calm atmosphere, lots of activities and caring staff who always have time to listen to you. Well done Woodhayes.

My family are very happy with the care mum is receiving at Woodhayes. The home is comfortable and very friendly. She is in a very pleasant room with french doors looking onto a beautiful garden. There are plenty of activities which she chooses to avoid as a rule", but she goes to the dining room for
lunch. The food is fresh and she is thriving. The staff are very friendly and approachable and provide excellent care. We are generally very satisfied with all aspects of the home.

My mum moved to Woodhayes in January 2017 and from day one she has been looked after very well.
In March my mum celebrated her 85th birthday and the staff and other residents gave her present's, it was also my dads 88th birthday this again was celebrated with all staff and residents.
On March 29th
my parents celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Woodhayes staff and residents gave them flowers to go with their Queens card.
Many thanks to all at Woodhayes.

I looked at a number of care homes in Exeter for my mother. Woodhayes was the only home where I could imagine her living. She has now been at Woodhayes nearly two years and my instinct that this was the right next stage for her has been confirmed. The Manager is excellent and encourages an ‘open door’
policy where he is available to residents and family members. Any queries or concerns are always addressed promptly and well. Whatever their role staff members know the residents individually and are professional, kind and caring. I am confident that Mum's nursing needs are well met. The feel of Woodhayes is warm and friendly. Mum chooses to spend most of her time in the lounge where she enjoys the company of other residents, staff and visitors. In the summer residents and visitors enjoy sitting in the garden. Mum is safe, well cared for and as contented as possible. It’s a big responsibility choosing a care home for a parent and I am glad that Woodhayes has proved to be a good choice.

My father has been a resident of Woodhayes in Exeter for five years. During that time, the standard of care he has received has been exemplary. Every member of staff is aware of his needs and handles him with care, consideration and understanding. All members of staff are really caring and professional.
Leadership and management is of high quality. When he was a little younger, he enjoyed the entertainment provided by staff. His favourite was the outing to the band concerts at Exmouth. Now, aged 98, he is unable to actively participate but he enjoys the wonderful gardens and a wheelchair walk to the local shops.
Woodhayes is a fantastic care home and I have no hesitation in recommending it for any elderly person, regardless of their needs.
Reply from Jonny Roberts, Home Manager at WoodhayesThank you for your kind words which I will share with the team. Your father was very much part of the Woodhayes family for a long time and he will be sadly missed. You and your family are in our thoughts. It has been an absolute pleasure to know you.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.442)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.442) out of 10 for Woodhayes is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.617 for Woodhayes is calculated as follows: ( (105 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 149 Ratings = 4.617
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodhayes is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
