Mount Tryon is situated on top of one of the 7 peaks of Torquay and sits in beautiful private grounds. They provide excellent 24-hour nursing and residential care with a dedicated community for complex dementia care.

A team of highly-qualified and attentive staff really focus on the individual needs of residents with a focus on the delivery of person-centered care. This dedication can be seen across the board - in cooking, hospitality and organising appropriate activities which cater for mind, body and soul. There is lots to do in The Bay with many beautiful wheelchair friendly attractions to visit.

Mealtimes here are a very social occasion with residents enjoying complimentary drinks and a pre-lunch sherry is offered every day. The home is ideally suited to meet the resident's needs now, and in the future to ensure they get the most from the home. The aim is to help every resident ‘love every day’.

Our elderly, gentleman, friend had a traumatic few months having suffered falls and stays in respite homes and hospital before taking a place at Mount Tryon at the start of the year. It didn't take long for him to relax and finally feel settled. May I say that Mount Tryon is very well managed and the
staff are first class. Everything is spotless and visitors are made very welcome from reception to the care team to the manager. I have nothing but praise and Barchester Group should be proud of this team. Thank you for your support and care of our friend.

I have been visiting Mount Tryon weekly for the past 9 months. In this time I have had the opportunity to get to know the staff and managers. I can honestly say all whom I have met have been kind, polite and always willing to answer questions or give help if needed. I've been able to observe the nurses
and carers working with the residents. They do a great job! They are patient and compassionate and you can see they take pride in their work. When some challenges came up with the resident I visit, I went to have a chat with the manager. She was very welcoming, open to listening and gave me all the time I needed. She was very committed and eager to find solutions for my resident to ensure she receives the highest quality of care. The next day an action plan was in place and the unit nurse was taking steps to implement it. The new plan is working well and my resident is much happier. Many thanks to all the staff and managers!

My mother spent the last three weeks of her life at Mount Tryon having been admitted at very short notice. She could not have been treated with greater care and respect by all the management and staff during this time. I would highly recommend Mount Tryon to anyone looking for a home for an elderly
relative needing care or nursing.

From the moment I entered into this care home I have received excellent attention for my stroke problem. The standard of decor, food, laundry and care and attention has been first class. Your physio, management and activities teams have treated me so well that I am quickly being restored to my peak

A happy atmosphere, staff are extremely helpful and caring. Any issues were dealt with in an efficient manner. Grandma was treated with kindness and respect and myself and extended family were always made welcome when visiting. The rooms were immaculate and clean and there were plenty of activities
to stimulate the residents.

As far as we could tell when visiting, everything was satisfactory.
The one bad experience we had was when sitting with the resident during the final hours (6pm-11pm). The noise and activity in the corridor was excessive. Staff were shouting at each other and noise levels were unacceptable for residents
trying to sleep, or in our case, actually dying.

My mother has been cared for extremely well throughout the 18 months she has been in Mount Tryon Care Home. The carers are responsive to her needs as a vascular dementia sufferer and my mother is treated with dignity at all times. The care home is a clean, airy and cheery environment. It is a pleasure

My wife has been in Mount Tryon for 4 months now and I must say she has always had very good treatment from staff and nurses.
When she arrived she was so ill she needed one-to-one care 24 hours.
She now can walk again and is on solid food again.
Whilst she will always have Alzheimer's/Dementia she
is very happy and I can see her every day and I can relax at home knowing she is well looked after.
The whole complex is very well looked after too.

Fantastic!
Mount Tryon has exceeded our expectations.

Mount Tyron is a wonderful place. The warm welcome you receive when visiting is so reassuring. The staff are truly amazing, so caring, cheerful, respectful and professional. Everybody knows and treats the residents with dignity. The choices on the menu are fantastic and the food looks superb The lounge,
dining room and bedrooms are clean and well kept and nowhere has that 'care home' smell! The beautiful gardens are a bonus. I cannot fault Mount Tyron. Deciding that a loved one cannot remain at home is a very hard and emotional decision and every one of the staff I have met at Mount Tyron have been understanding and supportive. Thank you all for looking after all of us so well.

Mount Tryon Care Home is very welcoming, friendly home with caring, cheerful staff who look after their residents with kindness and respect.
My sister feels completely safe, comfortable and exceptionally well looked after. She has fun with all the staff who make time to chat and share a joke with her.

Visited mum on a Monday morning and she was enjoying a 'Rock and Roll' sing along in the living room. Afterwards, she sat in her sunny room where she slept peacefully but was still aware of our presence. She reacted to familiar staff who checked on her by opening her eyes. She was particularly stimulated
by the lively activities coordinator in the yellow shirt.
The attentive and caring staff made us reassured mum was well looked after.

My background consists of being an Army intensive care nurse so I am extremely organised, caring and efficient. I have 16 years of nursing experience, which includes 10 years of intensive care experience. I have gained valuable knowledge of caring for residents and understand it is crucial to provide gold-standard care for the individual and their families.


Here at Mount Tryon, we have a beautiful home full of wonderful residents and a fantastic team of staff. We are here to motivate and empower residents to live fulfilling lives in a premium setting. I understand making the decision to move your loved one to a care home can be a daunting experience, but I am here to help you with the journey, answer all of your questions and make the transition a positive one for you and your loved one.

I have worked in the care industry for over 24 years in different sectors Hospital and private having roles of nurse, senior nurse, head of unit and Deputy manager.


I am a very passionate person who loves to make a positive difference, I strive to ensure our residents have a great quality of life and feel at home here at Mount Tryon.


My passion is ensuring every resident is treated with dignity, and respect and receives excellent person-centred care. I am very proud to be part of the team here at Mount Tryon.

Job Title: Administrator

My name is Tanya Kostova and I am the Administrator at Mount Tryon. I come from Bulgaria and have been working for the company for nearly 15 years. My responsibilities include managing the financial and administrative systems within the home.


I qualified as a midwife in Bulgaria in 1999 and also worked as a dental nurse before I came to the UK and joined Barchester where I had the opportunity to develop new skills and gain a qualification in Business Administration.

Hello, my name is Peter. I am a chartered Physiotherapist, with a speciality in Rehabilitation & Neurology.


I have been working for Barchester Healthcare as a Physiotherapist for over 17 years, having graduated with BSc Honours in Physiotherapy 26 years ago and a subsequent Master’s degree in Rehabilitation at Oxford Brookes University.


I am an ambitious, team player, goal-orientated, adventurous and easy-going person, with a special interest in motorsports, F1 to be specific.


Supporting our residents to achieve their rehabilitation goals is what I love in my job. Whether they choose to make Barchester their home or they prefer to go home to meet their loved ones, I will always be by their side to support them in their journey.

Hi, my name is Gemma. I joined the hospitality industry after moving to Torquay from Wolverhampton in 2002. I spent 18 years gaining knowledge and experience and brought this with me when I joined Mount Tryon in 2020.


When I joined Mount Tryon it was the first time I had worked in the care sector. I started as a Housekeeping assistant and then progressed to Laundry which is the area I really love. I have recently progressed to Head of Housekeeping which is something I am very proud of. I enjoy interacting with the residents and I am extremely passionate about making sure they live in a happy and comfortable environment.

I have been working in the facility maintenance industry for over 30 years. This is my second spell with Barchester, for whom I previously worked as a Regional Maintenance Coordinator. I am back in the fold at Mount Tryon as Head of Maintenance, where the staff and residents have made me feel most welcome. I am enjoying working in this great home and hope to continue making it a wonderful and safe place for residents, guests and staff alike.

This was my first venture into the care sector, although I have been working as a chef for over 40 years and bring with me a wealth of experience. Hi, my name is Jenny and I have recently taken on the role of hostess at Mount Tryon. In September I will of worked within the care sector for 45 years. I have two married children and 4 gorgeous grandchildren who I absolutely adore. My husband and I have been together for 47 years and are incredibly happy together. I am very much a people person so I am thriving within my new role as it allows me to interact with every resident in our home daily.

I am originally from Romania. I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2002. I have worked around the world gaining invaluable knowledge and skills. I have worked at Mount Tryon for almost twelve years, working both days and nights and finally settling into my role as Unit Manager.


I enjoy working at Mount Tryon as everyone here is like my second family. I feel every day of life is a miracle in itself, a valuable magic. We should never lose our sense of wonder and I believe the shortest distance between two people is a smile.


If I can achieve that for the residents and lead my team effectively I am happy doing my job.

My name is Helen, I am a Registered General Nurse who, out of the quest for experience, knowledge, and career progression applied to Barchester Healthcare and was fortunate to be employed in the beautiful home called Mount Tryon Care Home. I have worked in the home for over a year and 3 months, and in those days, there have never been any regrets, nor a better yesterday. The support from the team has been next to none. I walk out with my shoulders up high because I can appreciate the standards and professionalism we uphold and we celebrate the lives of all of our residents. I especially love Dementia Nursing and our Memory Lane Unit. This is a true passion in my Nursing.

Hello, my name is Susan and I have been a carer at Mount Tryon for nearly 3 years now. My background consists of being a carer for 13 years in both residential and community care. I enjoy the work that I do, I find it very rewarding to help people who can no longer look after themselves the way they once did. I also like meeting new people and talking with people which helps me with my job as I like to hear about their life stories. I am a grandmother to 3 very active boys who I look after on my days off but I love it. Here at Mount Tryon, I work with a brilliant group of people from so many different countries it is very interesting to hear all about their different cultures. We work hard and support each other, we are a great team and I really enjoy the job that I do.

I enjoy mixing with other people and knowing what they feel and think about things, so hopefully this will suit me to do this role. I have been given the honour to do this.


I realise I will need patience and will try to be open and truthful in difficult situations.
