Mount Tryon is situated on top of one of the 7 peaks of Torquay and sits in beautiful private grounds. They provide excellent 24-hour nursing and residential care with a dedicated community for complex dementia care.

A team of highly-qualified and attentive staff really focus on the individual needs of residents with a focus on the delivery of person-centered care. This dedication can be seen across the board - in cooking, hospitality and organising appropriate activities which cater for mind, body and soul. There is lots to do in The Bay with many beautiful wheelchair friendly attractions to visit.

Mealtimes here are a very social occasion with residents enjoying complimentary drinks and a pre-lunch sherry is offered every day. The home is ideally suited to meet the resident's needs now, and in the future to ensure they get the most from the home. The aim is to help every resident ‘love every day’.

My uncle has advanced dementia. He communicates very little and so I find visits challenging. My last visit, March 10th 2022, which included a care review meeting with his assigned care worker, was the most meaningful I have had since my uncle came to live at Mount Tryon. The kindness and empathy
towards me as a relative in conducting the review meeting and facilitating the visit with my uncle was very much appreciated.

I came in here for a very short time but decided to stay longer because it seems so good with everything for you.
In the last couple of months, I have changed my mind completely to stay for as long as possible. For my safety, I will stay forever. The staff here are just so nice and wonderful for everything.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to all at Mount Tryon for all their efforts to make my Mother’s 100th Birthday today a special day and in every way.
It was very special and greatly appreciated because the family was unable to travel to Torquay due to lockdown and Covid quarantine rules.

had a beautiful birthday cake made and decorated lounge, complete with banner and balloons and Happy Birthday sung to her by the wonderful staff who have been so special and caring in every manner.

Mount Tryon was in a very difficult position at the commencement of the pandemic. Through strong leadership from the newly appointed manager and a noticeable closer, determined bond within the whole team, the home is now reaching its potential. Mount Tryon has always been a safe, caring environment
but has suffered in the recent past from weak management. Fortunately, through some heroic efforts, the "New Team" have performed well above average and have been immensely supportive and protective of residents. My wife has been a resident at Mount Tryon for 10 years and I, therefore, have considerable experience of the service. I am of the opinion that the new regime is the best the home has had in my 10-year experience and thank them wholeheartedly for their herculean efforts during this troubled and difficult time.

My wife has been a resident at Mount Tryon for 19 months. She has severe dementia and is extremely ill, declining very slowly.
I have been very, very impressed with the care my wife has received. The staff without exception have met my wifes needs cheerfully and with a smile. The medical support has
been excellent as well and I would recommend Mount Tryon to others without hesitation.
The care and concern has been very welcome during the present crisis and the staff are very understanding about how we feel about our loved ones and how we miss them.

My mom had been in Mount Tyron since Feb 2019 up until last month when she sadly passed away.
They were brilliant with her, so kind and caring. The care staff and nurses were incredible. Mom had Alzheimers and could be difficult from time to time, they were so good with her, calmed her down and managed
to distract her and provide comfort. The carers provided support and help that I could not do as a daughter, we have the utmost respect for each and every one of them.
Mom really enjoyed the food and the whole team were great with her. When Mom was off her food through illness, they went out of their way to ensure she had something she would enjoy....thank you so much.

Thankfully things are improving, as the standard of the home went downhill this year and I was considering moving my husband to another home.
Since we have had a new manager and entertainments manager, things have started to improve.
The staff work so hard and I appreciate the care that they give
to my husband who is so dependent on them for all his needs.

Although my father has only been with you for a week he has been cared for by you all at Barchester Tyron, staff are very approachable and although we have had teething problems these have been dealt with by the lovely staff. On arrival, we were made so comfortable and loved the fact we could help ourselves

A very friendly welcome and a lovely, clean environment. Being able to make a cup of tea in the visitor's lounge just adds that homely comfort. A programme of activities and sensory stimulation is an added bonus. Always someone on hand for a quick update as and when required, highly recommend.

My background consists of being an Army intensive care nurse so I am extremely organised, caring and efficient. I have 16 years of nursing experience, which includes 10 years of intensive care experience. I have gained valuable knowledge of caring for residents and understand it is crucial to provide gold-standard care for the individual and their families.


Here at Mount Tryon, we have a beautiful home full of wonderful residents and a fantastic team of staff. We are here to motivate and empower residents to live fulfilling lives in a premium setting. I understand making the decision to move your loved one to a care home can be a daunting experience, but I am here to help you with the journey, answer all of your questions and make the transition a positive one for you and your loved one.

Hello, my name is Peter. I am a chartered Physiotherapist, with a speciality in Rehabilitation & Neurology.


I have been working for Barchester Healthcare as a Physiotherapist for over 17 years, having graduated with BSc Honours in Physiotherapy 26 years ago and a subsequent Master’s degree in Rehabilitation at Oxford Brookes University.


I am an ambitious, team player, goal-orientated, adventurous and easy-going person, with a special interest in motorsports, F1 to be specific.


Supporting our residents to achieve their rehabilitation goals is what I love in my job. Whether they choose to make Barchester their home or they prefer to go home to meet their loved ones, I will always be by their side to support them in their journey.

Hi, my name is Gemma. I joined the hospitality industry after moving to Torquay from Wolverhampton in 2002. I spent 18 years gaining knowledge and experience and brought this with me when I joined Mount Tryon in 2020.


When I joined Mount Tryon it was the first time I had worked in the care sector. I started as a Housekeeping assistant and then progressed to Laundry which is the area I really love. I have recently progressed to Head of Housekeeping which is something I am very proud of. I enjoy interacting with the residents and I am extremely passionate about making sure they live in a happy and comfortable environment.

Job Title: Head of Maintenance

I have been working in the facility maintenance industry for over 30 years. This is my second spell with Barchester, for whom I previously worked as a Regional Maintenance Coordinator. I am back in the fold at Mount Tryon as Head of Maintenance, where the staff and residents have made me feel most welcome. I am enjoying working in this great home and hope to continue making it a wonderful and safe place for residents, guests and staff alike.

Hi, I’m Sue and I’m the Head Chef here at Mount Tryon. This was my first venture into the care sector, although I have been working as a chef for over 40 years and bring with me a wealth of experience. It is my passion to deliver nutritious, home-cooked food to everyone we support. I'm happy to say that I love my job!

Hi, my name is Jenny and I have recently taken on the role of hostess at Mount Tryon. In September I will of worked within the care sector for 45 years. I have two married children and 4 gorgeous grandchildren who I absolutely adore. My husband and I have been together for 47 years and are incredibly happy together. I am very much a people person so I am thriving within my new role as it allows me to interact with every resident in our home daily.

I am originally from Romania. I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2002. I have worked around the world gaining invaluable knowledge and skills. I have worked at Mount Tryon for almost twelve years, working both days and nights and finally settling into my role as Unit Manager.


I enjoy working at Mount Tryon as everyone here is like my second family. I feel every day of life is a miracle in itself, a valuable magic. We should never lose our sense of wonder and I believe the shortest distance between two people is a smile.


If I can achieve that for the residents and lead my team effectively I am happy doing my job.

My name is Helen, I am a Registered General Nurse who, out of the quest for experience, knowledge, and career progression applied to Barchester Healthcare and was fortunate to be employed in the beautiful home called Mount Tryon Care Home. I have worked in the home for over a year and 3 months, and in those days, there have never been any regrets, nor a better yesterday. The support from the team has been next to none. I walk out with my shoulders up high because I can appreciate the standards and professionalism we uphold and we celebrate the lives of all of our residents. I especially love Dementia Nursing and our Memory Lane Unit. This is a true passion in my Nursing.

Hello, my name is Susan and I have been a carer at Mount Tryon for nearly 3 years now. My background consists of being a carer for 13 years in both residential and community care. I enjoy the work that I do, I find it very rewarding to help people who can no longer look after themselves the way they once did. I also like meeting new people and talking with people which helps me with my job as I like to hear about their life stories. I am a grandmother to 3 very active boys who I look after on my days off but I love it. Here at Mount Tryon, I work with a brilliant group of people from so many different countries it is very interesting to hear all about their different cultures. We work hard and support each other, we are a great team and I really enjoy the job that I do.

I enjoy mixing with other people and knowing what they feel and think about things, so hopefully this will suit me to do this role. I have been given the honour to do this.


I realise I will need patience and will try to be open and truthful in difficult situations.
