The past year has been immensely difficult due to the pandemic. The staff at Highcliffe Nursing Home have constantly kept in touch with regular letters and calls as/when appropriate. The most outstanding fact is that they have managed to keep residents safe and Covid free.
Most recently there was a
virtual families' meeting where assurances were given that as far as possible life for residents has continued as normal. Activities are posted on Facebook.
On a more personal level, I am aware of the care, compassion and support given to my father. It was clear - when visits were possible last summer and into the autumn - that the staff are so understanding of him and give enormous care and support to ensure his wellbeing.

My mother has been at Highcliffe Nursing Home since February 2018. We cannot praise them enough. It means so much to us to know that our mum is properly cared for, especially during this last year with the covid pandemic. They make sure that everyone gets all the love, care, attention and stimulation
they need. We can't thank them enough for looking after mum so well and keeping her safe.

My cousin has been a resident for a year now and happily considers this as her home. The Covid 19 pandemic has sadly prevented me from visiting regularly but I am able to speak to my cousin at any time via a telephone system that uses her mobile phone sim card. All staff are approachable so I know if
I have any concerns about my cousin I would be able to get the help and reassurance needed. I am so very grateful that Covid has been kept at bay at this Home due to the excellent management.

My dad can be quite difficult at times and the entire staff are always friendly and supportive of Dad and the family. We get regular updates from the nursing staff and his care is fantastic. He always tells me when he has had a good meal and enjoys the homemade cakes!
Highcliffe Nursing Home is light
and welcoming and has a lovely, well-tended residents' garden.

My husband has been looked after in a very caring, sensitive and positive manner. He is difficult in attitude quite often and has been treated with kindness and respect by all his carers. I feel very happy that he is there. The staff are always courteous and informative about his health and wellbeing.

Dad was admitted to the nursing home for respite care in January last year after a severe attack of rheumatoid arthritis robbed him of his mobility and left him in a lot of pain. It was the worst possible time as Covid 19 was emerging fast and the country was about to go into lockdown. He had only been
there a matter of weeks when the home had to close to visitors and I could no longer visit daily. We had to take the decision for Dad to become a permanent resident during lockdown. Despite my concerns that he would not be able to settle, the staff were fantastic with him and one year on he is happy, settled and pain free. I have nothing but praise for the way the staff have coped during these really difficult times and have managed to keep Dad safe and settled.

All the staff and management within the home are very attentive and caring to the residents, their family and friends. The residents receive excellent care and attention and warmth. The home is very welcoming and alive with sounds of singing and laughter from residents and staff.
Fabulous activities
and events take place which is posted on Facebook for families to see, the residents are so happy.
I would highly recommend Highcliffe Nursing Home as they listen, they care, they support, they work as a team to provide the best care possible to loved ones.

My mum has been living at Highcliffe Nursing Home for nine months. Before she was a resident of another nursing home, which was not such a positives experience for her or us as her family. What I like about Highcliffe is the friendliness of all the staff from domestic, support workers, site team, nurses,
activities coordinator and management. The activities are well thought out by a conscientious and likeable staff. The care is very good with maintaining dignity. Lots of consistent staff who are loyal to their jobs. It's a cheerful, happy, well run home. Manager is very approachable and gets involved, not just office-based.
Would recommend.

My mother moved to Highcliffe Nursing Home at short notice as the previous home was closing down (to be demolished as a building plot).

Fortunately, the move has been very good for mum. She has been well looked after by friendly, dedicated staff and is comfortable and relaxed in her room, which

she is happy with.

My father has been a resident for twelve months now. He is well looked after. His room is always clean. He is well fed and always looks forward to meals. Although a fairly solitary character, he is encouraged to join in with the various activities taking place, or he is supported with activities in
his room.
The staff are always very friendly and helpful when we visit or call on the phone.
As I live some distance away from him and cannot visit very often, I am reassured that he is being well looked after.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.752)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.752) out of 10 for Highcliffe Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.752 for Highcliffe Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (234 Excellents x 5) + (59 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 298 Ratings = 4.752
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highcliffe Nursing Home is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I started my career as a secretary for Lloyds Bank in 1981 and became a PA for the Business Banking Managers. The Business Banking department relocated to Poole in 2007, and I decided it was time for a change because of the travelling. An advertisement for a part-time administrator/Activities person at Highcliffe Nursing Home caught my eye, and I have never looked back. The company have supported me to progress in my career from Administrator to Business Manager, Deputy Manager, Registered Manager at Highcliffe, now including Operations Manager for the South. I love being around and supporting elderly people, as I had such a close relationship with my grandparents that I thought this was the job for me, and it is. I am passionate that we provide the best care, lots of laughter and fun, which we do our very best to provide.

I am an enthusiastic, caring, and dependable registered nurse who thrives on making a difference. With over 15 years of care experience, I started my career as a health care assistant and progressed my way up to senior care assistant before I went on to complete my nursing degree back in 2019. I started working at Highcliffe Nursing in February 2024, I am the home's deputy manager. I love that Highcliffe Nursing Home has its ethos of care built around its residents. I have a passion for helping people achieve their best possible level of health and well-being, and I can continue doing so thanks to this positive culture Highcliffe Nursing Home has. In my free time, I do a lot of volunteering in and around the community of Highcliffe, I also enjoy setting up and participating in charity fundraisers for local charities and charities close to my heart, such as the Alzheimer’s Society and MacMillan Cancer Support.
