Chalgrove Care and Nursing Home in Poole provides affordable high-quality residential, nursing, dementia, respite, end-of-life and palliative care for older people.

CQC has given Chalgrove a rating of ‘good’ right across the board (January 2018).

There are several lounges and dining areas throughout the home, plus a large, sunny conservatory overlooking the garden. The smaller first-floor lounge is a good spot for quieter activities and reminiscing, or for when family and friends come to visit.

Chalgrove has a lovely large secure lawned garden and enclosed paved courtyards, with plenty of room to sit out on sunny days.

Residents and visitors are welcome to use the free Chalgrove Wi-Fi.

The bedrooms at Chalgrove are in two wings: Edwardian, where nursing care is provided, and Tudor, the residential building.

Across the two wings, there are 57 bedrooms, three of which can accommodate couples. All bedrooms have an en-suite or washbasin in the room.

Many of the bedrooms look out onto the garden, and lots of the ground-floor bedrooms have direct garden access.

Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own photos and furniture. Personal possessions help residents feel at home, and provide extra stimulation and time for reminiscence.

My wife has been a residnet for the last 6 months. She suffers from vascular dementia but has been treated with care and understadning by the staff of carers during the whole of that time. My wife is incontinent from time to time but her condition is treated cheerfully by staff at all incidents.

Since the last time I visited the home, which was four years ago, as my mother was a resident, the home is friendlier and cleaner.

Mum came to Chalgrove due to safeguarding concerns raised by neighbours of her home environment. Mum has taken a while to settle in due to memory issues but the staff have been wonderful in making sure mum felt comfortable and welcome. She has gained weight, us always clean and tidy and warm and her
wishes are always respected. She has made some close connections with carers and seems very content here.
My only recommendation would be for a bit more activities.

My mother has been in Chalgrove since August 2018. The staff and management have been helpful, supportive and very caring. Mum has been a difficult individual to deal with at times and has struggled to come to terms with her new surroundings. I am satisfied that Mum is receiving excellent care and I

My mother of 96 years was sent to Chalgrove Care and Nursing Home as she has Alzheimer's and went off her legs.


We cannot speak highly enough of the staff, who were not only very caring to her and interacted with her as best as they could, but they also took the time to speak to my wife and I about

how she had been each day, this was without prompting, we didn't have to ask.


Thanks for all the support and helping us through a very emotional time in our lives.

Mum has lived at Chalgrove for just over 6 months now and couldn’t be happier. I’ve seen such a change in her as she has got to know the staff and routines (she likes routine!).
The staff here are caring, enabling and friendly, I’m so pleased I found a home that she’s happy in, she tells me often
how lovely they all are and particularly that the ‘man who does the cooking’ is great (the chef) and he comes to talk to her about what she likes.

My mum has been a resident for two months now and I cannot fault the care she has been given. The staff are polite, friendly and nothing is too much for them. They understand mum's needs and everything is done to make mum comfortable and with no fuss. Mum feels safe here. Our family can now be relieved
that our mum is in safe hands and happy that our dad can visit every day.

I have been very happy and comfortable here for the most part and very glad that I have been allowed to go out on my own for walks with my two sticks and to the local Inn in the Park, provided I have let the staff know what time I would return.
We have beautiful scenery here and especially during the
summer months, it has been wonderful to be able to get down to the beach and even to paddle along the edge of the water. The only disadvantage for me is there are no shops I can get to without a very long walk.

My relative has been at Charlgrove for over 7 years. The staff are very caring and helpful at all times.
He is confined to bed but is included in the activities. He has recently been visited by an owl which he enjoyed.

My mum was placed into Chalgrove as an interim placement whilst a care package was out in place for her to return home. Within the three months this took, she was treated with much respect and care.
The staff even treated mum with a little gift ie puzzle book which was very thoughtful.
The work very
hard and are very conscientious.
The home itself is a little dated but with the care received would make you overlook this. Mum was happy there and that was very important.

My mother has been here for a couple of years now and her health and well being have improved massively. She enjoys the company and gets on well with the staff who always seem very caring and anxious to make her stay as comfortable as possible. All care homes are expensive nowadays and this no exception
but I look back to the first few months when she just got better and better and younger each time I went there and there’s no price on that and in case you’re wondering she has more than kept up with that improvement

My husband and myself visit the home regularly, we have always found the staff to be very caring and friendly, our parents seem happy and contented and say they are well looked after they join in with the activities and socialise with other residents, if they are happy it makes us feel happy.

Some staff have been fantastic! Others, not so. I have found a couple of the 'higher ranking' staff to be stressed with me when trying to hold a conversation (asking questions about Dad's care). Auxillary/agency staff have always been lovely to my dad and myself/family.

Staff talk to my partner even though he cannot always respond. He likes company, so being in the lounge is important to us. Staff and management are always friendly. Activities are good and the one to one is excellent. Food is good and I am always offered a drink. As long as he is happy, I am happy.
