Bay Tree Court Care Centre is a purpose-built, all en-suite, 59-bed home situated in the heart of the village of Prestbury, less than 3 miles from the centre of Cheltenham.

Bay Tree Court was one of only a very few homes in Gloucestershire that was awarded a CSCI 3-Star (excellent) rating and owners remain justly proud of this achievement. The previous rating system has now been updated by CQC.

Bay Tree Court Care Centre has recently benefitted from an extensive refurbishment programme with a substantial investment being made in 2013 by European Healthcare Group.

The programme has seen the total refurbishment of a range of rooms, providing level access en-suite shower rooms, new decor and furnishings throughout. In addition, a range of improvements has also been made to the communal facilities within the home.

Works undertaken include refurbishment of two coffee lounges, a library area having been created on the ground floor, new furnishings throughout in the Care Centre dining room and additional upgrades to staff facilities and external landscaping.

Reviews

7.8 Bay Tree Court Care Centre has a Review Score of 7.8 (7.796)

The Review Score of 7.8 (maximum of 10) for Bay Tree Court Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 10 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Bay Tree Court Care Centre in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.042 for Bay Tree Court Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (54 Excellents x 5) + (37 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 118 Ratings = 4.042

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.754 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bay Tree Court Care Centre is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.5

    2. Target of 11.8 positive Reviews (59 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 3 Reviews ÷ 11.8 Target = 0.254

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

From my very first visit to my last, the staff were, in my opinion, polite, helpful, compassionate and understanding. The facilities were comfortable and well thought out. All in all, everything was up to my expectations.

I came to Bay Tree court to play the piano for the residents, and have been back several times over the last few months.
The home is very clean and the staff are lovely, not only to me but to the residents, always treating them with respect.
The standard of care seems high with carers coming quickly to help with the residents and bringing them lots of cups of tea.
My grandmother was in care in another county, and I wish she could have been here as the care is better than the care she received!

My mum has been at Bay Tree for over a year now. I cannot speak too highly of the staff and management who have come to understand my mum's complex needs so well. They recognise that her needs are not only physical and mental (she has dementia) but also emotional. When she presents challenging behaviour they diffuse the situation with patience and humour. When she is in pain, they have acted as quickly as possible to alleviate it. When she's distressed they give her the hugs and kisses she needs to calm her. Recently she had to go into hospital. When she returned, the staff were genuinely delighted to see her back. While no home can ever be like 'real' home, for my mum this is the nearest you can get.

Our mother lived here for just over 3 years as a care resident.
For the first 2 and half years she was well cared for and was settled and we were very happy with the quality of care she received.
In the last year since it has gone downhill.
Whilst individual staff continued to be amazingly caring, the general level of care diminished. We have rated Staff as 'Poor', due to staff ratio and their availability, not due to their caring attitude.
We met with the Manager to raise our concerns that she was not being helped up in the mornings and was at risk of a fall.
We were concerned at the sudden closure of the nursing floor.
When I asked my mother why she was getting up on her own she said there were not enough staff or they were too busy to help.
This is not acceptable when paying a thousand a week to be cared for.

No, we would not recommend this home at all.

My mother had been a resident of Baytree Court for the last six years.
I received a letter in June giving my family just one months notice to rehome my mother ....who is very very frail and easily upset and anxious.
The letter was written in a very detached and hostile manner.
We were promised help with moving her by management. This never materialised.....
We all felt extremely upset and let down by the powers that be at Baytree Court.
There was no communication from the management to the staff at all.
This was pointed out by the staff on many occasions.
The staff...especially on the residential floor were angels.
They are fighting a losing battle unless something changes.

When I first arrived at Bay Tree court, I was favourably impressed. The care seemed excellent and a nurse was on hand to back up the carers. However a week after arriving the nurse noticed that all was not well. I appeared weak and she immediately called a doctor who sent me straight to hospital - diagnosis, pneumonia.
I stayed five weeks and then returned to Bay Tree court where I been assured there would be physios to help with my recovery. Unfortunately I found this was not true and also the nurses were gradually dismissed. I was advised to find another home which could give me adequate nursing care.

My mum has been at Bay Tree Court for over 6 years. We chose it because it had residential care and also a nursing floor so we fully expected mum to have a home for the rest of her life. In mid April we received a letter giving her one months notice to quit. Bay Tree Court had decided that they were unable to get sufficient nursing staff to adequately care for patients on the nursing floor. The letter was a dreadful shock- no prior notification and the wording was insensitive and brutal. One months notice to re home an 88 yrs old, bedridden resident with Alzheimer's. The manager said she would help with L authority suggestions of where to look for a home this did not materialise.

Mum has stayed in several Care Homes in this area for short periods but she couldn't get on with any of them. Bay Tree has been totally different. She settled almost instantly. She likes the staff (and my mum has very high standards) and the warm, caring and considerate way they treat her. The staff are constantly patient. She likes her light and spacious room and how the en-suite is always kept immaculately clean. She enjoys the tasty food and how the staff are more than willing to accommodate her passion for fresh fruit. When the weather is good a member of staff takes her around the garden - something she loves, even though she can see little. Mum has now accepted that this is the place for her to live long-term - somewhere where she feels safe and secure and cared for. The place is a God-send for her.

My mother has lived at Bay Tree Court Care Centre since January 2015 on the residential floor. For her age (90 on admission) she was still fairly active and in sound mind. She was able to join in many of the activities on offer.
Over the last few months she has become more frail and often gets muddled and confused. Throughout mums stay she has received excellent care which is delivered by the staff with patience and calmness. The whole atmosphere of the home is relaxed and friendly. A great effort was made to make Christmas a special event when I joined mum for Christmas lunch. The food is of excellent quality and service very professional. Thank you to all staff.

My mother has been happy at Bay Tree Court unfortunately after a few months of arriving her health deteriorated and she not been so involved with activities and outings. The staff are kind, patient and caring. My sister and I recently attended a reception to meet the new manager and came away having no idea of who she was as no introduction was made! I think the rooms are rather dull and could do with some fresh decoration.
