St Faith’s Residential and Nursing Home in Cheltenham provides the highest standard of dedicated, 24 hour, individually assessed nursing care for 69 residents, including those with complex needs or dementia. It is well known for its excellence in end of life care both in the main nursing home and in 'The Fairhaven Suite' which is dedicated to palliative care.

St Faith's is a fully accessible characterful refurbished Victorian Villa with a modern extension in a leafy street close to the centre of Cheltenham, with well-kept accessible gardens.

Each floor is organised as its own community, with dining rooms and lounges to give a calmer, homely and more personal environment. Each room has ensuite facilities (and some accommodate couples if desired).

The home is unusual in the high level of qualified nurses (including mental health nurses) that are available on every shift. Each resident has a named nurse and carer who work closely with residents and families to create an individual plan of care. The physiotherapist and dietary advisor give valuable additional support. The catering team provide fresh, nutritious home cooked food and are skilled at adapting the menu for different dietary requirements and for those with swallowing difficulties. The activities team work both individually and in groups to offer a varied, stimulating and enriching activities, including visiting musicians & entertainers, trips out and cycle rides on a specially adapted trishaw.

The Fairhaven Suite is separate to the main nursing home. It offers privacy for adults wanting to receive palliative care for their final days, weeks or months. It has nine spacious, newly refurbished suites. A key part is the support, space and facilities that it offers to families and friends, enabling them to spend quality time with their loved ones.

My father was at St Faith's Nursing Home for five weeks following a long stay in the hospital. I am so thankful that the last few weeks of his life were spent in such a warm and caring environment. Dad had a main caregiver and also other medical staff looking after him. He was treated with so much patience
and kindness by everyone involved in his care. Whenever we visited, we were always updated on his health and well-being, and we could tell how much they thought of my Dad. Sadly Dad had to receive end-of-life care at the home, and subsequently died. When the time came, the nurse and other staff were very professional and showed Dad a huge amount of empathy. They also supported us as a family, allowing us to grieve in privacy whilst still making sure we were ok. I cannot praise St Faith's enough for the incredible way in which they looked after my father, and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them. I would like to thank the manager and staff for everything they did.

From the moment my dad arrived at St Faith's, he was treated with respect and dignity. His care has been second to none, and it is clear that all the staff really do work so hard in often very testing situations. In the hours before he passed away, the nurses and carers were so understanding of how
we felt and went out of their way to do what they could to make it less painful for us. Special mentions must go to two particular ladies. Thank you, and we would not hesitate to recommend St Faiths to anybody.

St Faith's is an outstanding nursing home. As a family, we are so thankful for the excellent care Mum received whilst a resident at St Faith's. All the staff we came into contact with were caring and compassionate; nothing was too much trouble. The staff were very responsive to Mums complex needs. The
staff went the extra mile to help Mum make friends and feel secure as part of their community. The lovely, homely, inclusive atmosphere really gave Mum a great quality of life. The activity team provided stimulating fun activities, which Mum loved. The beautiful garden was an oasis for Mum and residents in the summer months.
Mums team of carers were amazing; Mum was always beautifully presented, happy and relaxed in their company. The maintenance team and housekeeping team helped keep Mums lovely bedroom clean and well looked after. The catering team provided excellent meals, which Mum loved. The nursing team provided excellent medical and compassionate end of life care.

My mother has been a resident for 8-months. I have been impressed with the informative communication from the initial contact with St Faith's. Covid does present extra challenges, but my mother settled well, and the staff always kept me updated and facilitated phone calls. It has been lovely to start
to visit in person, and have had fantastic visits in the garden. All the staff I have met have been so friendly, obviously know my mother well, and nothing seems too much trouble. It is lovely to see my mother so well cared for.

Dad fell and broke his hip in December 2019 and was discharged from the hospital to St Faith's Nursing Home. It wasn't long before lockdown hit, but in that short time, we could see how quickly Dad was settling in and enjoying the attention! All of the staff is incredible. They have kept us up to date
with all the many amazing activities that Dad gets involved in, and we worked together during lockdown by arranging Christmas letters to the residents from my children's school! I felt so honoured to play a part in it. St Faith's arranged a beautiful meeting where my children handed over the letters safely and waved to Dad and other residents. I'm extremely thankful to Lilian Faithfull for being so efficient and staying ahead by closing their homes long before the virus was announced. We feel so fortunate to have Dad in such a safe place. Thank you to everyone at St Faith's!

Mum always looks immaculate and well presented when I visit. I have never worried about my mum's happiness since she has been a resident at St Faith's. She always has a smile on her face. Mum has a spacious room, which is light and airy. She loves watching TV and has a colour one in her room. The food
is "lovely" and so is the wine! Very satisfied customer - thank you.

My aunt has been at St Faith's since July 2019. She has received such good and kind care from the staff there. But what really makes the difference is how they also make her husband so welcome and supported when he visits. My aunt is always clean and tidy and I am sure she has improved, health wise,
since being there. Her meal times are supported and the thoughtfully of the staff is apparent to see.
Thank you all for the care and support my aunt and uncle are being given.

St Faith's is a caring organisation and the nursing and clinical staff, on the whole, are excellent. However, I do feel more could be done to ensure the room and furniture are placed suitable to fit my aunt's needs - she has not been able to reach her phone as the charger was behind her bed head. Also,
she does get a build up of old papers eg., no one seems to take responsibility for helping her with these things.

I am very happy that my mother is being cared for at St Faith's Nursing Home. The staff really take time to get to know the residents and everyone is treated as an individual and with respect. Even bed bound residents can benefit from some of the activities - my mother has enjoyed visits from miniature

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.930)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.930) out of 10 for St Faith's Nursing & Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.700 for St Faith's Nursing & Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (64 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 90 Ratings = 4.7
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.23 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Faith's Nursing & Residential Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 69 registered maximum number of service users is 13.8. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.8 = 0.58
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Teresa

Teresa Weis

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2018

Teresa became home manager of St Faith’s in August 2018 after 4 years as deputy manager and 5 years as head nurse.

Teresa qualified as a nurse 43 years ago and specialised early in her career in the ‘care of the older person’. When she joined Lilian Faithfull Care in 2001, she already had 10 years of experience as a home manager, but took the opportunity to go back to a hands-on nursing role. However, she quickly took on extra responsibilities, which set her on the path to her present position.

In her role as home manager, Teresa is proud to be “leading a team which provides person-centred care to the most vulnerable in our society”. Teresa has an ‘open door policy’ ensuring she is always available for residents, families and staff. She explains, “Although St Faith’s is a large nursing home, all the staff here are on first name terms. Our staff structure means that everyone is supported and there is always someone to talk to.” Teresa and her team work closely with families keeping them involved in the care of their loved ones and ensuring lines of communication are always kept open.

Teresa is an avid reader and enjoys her family time with her four grandchildren and two daughters, who have both followed in their mother’s footsteps into the social care sector.

Pauline Okposi is the Clinical Lead Nurse at St Faith’s Nursing & Residential Home in Cheltenham, bringing with her over two decades of dedication, resilience and professional growth.

She began her journey with the organisation in 2002, having moved to the UK from Kenya, where she originally trained as a chef. Determined to pursue a career in care, Pauline worked her way from a cleaning role into care work before completing her NVQ Level 2, Access to Nursing, and ultimately qualifying as a nurse through the University of the West of England, Bristol.

Alongside her role at St Faith’s, Pauline spent 14 years working at the Oncology Centre at Cheltenham General Hospital, gaining invaluable clinical experience, including palliative and end-of-life care. In 2018, she stepped into her current position as Clinical Lead Nurse, where she now balances hands-on clinical care with leadership, training and administrative responsibilities.

Her role includes overseeing care plans and assessments, supporting new admissions, leading on clinical standards, and working closely with GPs and multidisciplinary teams to ensure residents receive the highest quality, person-centred care.

Known for her compassionate and hands-on approach, Pauline is always willing to step in wherever needed, supporting both residents and colleagues alike. She takes pride in building strong relationships with families, keeping them informed and involved in their loved one’s care.
