The Review Score of 9.6 (maximum of 10) for Mill House Care Home with Nursing is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 20 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Mill House Care Home with Nursing in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.582 for Mill House Care Home with Nursing is calculated as follows: ( (150 Excellents x 5) + (77 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 237 Ratings = 4.582

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mill House Care Home with Nursing is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 9 positive Reviews (45 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 13 Reviews ÷ 9 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I and my whole extended family feel my mother was given the best of care, given the very sad circumstances. We knew the moment we walked into the home it would be the best place for her to end her days. She never-benefited from the homes facilities or lovely views, but everyone seemed to be very professional and kind to her, despite in some ways her being a difficult patient. There were some outstanding members of staff, who when the end of life came gave my mother dignity, of which I am so grateful.

My father recently moved at his choice to Mill House in Chipping Campden. Originally in 2 week sessions of respite care and then converted to full residency/nursing care. The care and nursing staff are excellent and the management of each discipline professional and most helpful at such a sensitive time for both resident and family. My father certainly appreciated his stay which was far more appropriate than family or carers could provide at his own home. Full marks to Mill House.

My 90-year-old father spent 5 weeks in Mill House. He was extremely well treated right from his initial visit, his entry assessment and throughout his stay. A friendly and caring environment.

The care that my father received from all the staff extended to his family. We felt very welcome when we visited and the staff always had time for us, whatever questions we might ask.

I wrote an original, similar review after my mother had completed her first short-term contracted stay at Mill House; this focussed on the extremely high qualities of the facilities and staffing experienced at all time. Now, some 3 months later, I am pleased to record the same appreciation; the values I have complimented before have been well sustained and this is in the face of significant transitions amongst the staff numbers, with no diminution in standards. The camaraderie within the entire Mill House community remains exceptional i.e. Staff, residents, visitors.

Mill House is a warm, friendly care home. The staff are friendly - always happy to help.
My father is very settled at Mill House, enjoys activities when they are arranged.
Meal times are a social occasion and the menu is varied. Residents have their own say on the home - Father is treated with dignity and respect. The only negative comment I have is that Mill House activities are few and far between.

Kim Mulford, Home Manager at Mill House Care Home with Nursing responded to this review on 24 May 2017:

Thank you for taking the time to review Mill House, we really appreciate your feedback. At Mill House we take great pride in ensuring we deliver high quality care and facilities. Activities are an extremely important part of daily life at the home, so we have requested that one of our Activities Coordinators invites you to be involved in the regular review of your loved one’s activity programme. We welcome the opportunity to improve, and hope you will continue to share your thoughts with us in the home in future.

My Mother has been a resident at Mill House for over 5 years, during which time I have found that the place has gone from strength to strength. There is a warm, friendly atmosphere everywhere and as the home is not too large, everybody knows everybody and speaks on first name terms.

The staff are very caring and every effort is made to accommodate each individual's needs and particular foibles! Everybody is treated with great respect and dignity and as request for help is always promptly attended to. I have every confidence that my mother is happy, well looked after and safe when I am not around and this is a great reassurance.

My late husband was a resident at Mill House for five months, requiring full nursing care. The staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful at all times, despite him not being the easiest person to deal with. It is very difficult for someone who has held down an important job and always been independent to accept that they are now very ill and cannot do anything without help.
They constantly encouraged him and nothing was too much trouble. One of our consultants told us that he was in the best place and he was right.
The nursing care was first class and he was constantly monitored throughout the night which gave me peace of mind.
When the end came it was dignified and peaceful and one cannot ask for more than that.
I am extremely grateful for their care and understanding.

My first ever experience concerning a care home. My elderly sister had been a resident for fifteen months and she has always been treated with the utmost respect and has been very satisfied with her stay. Many activities are available daily for residents if they wish to participate. From a visitors point of view, I would just say that there is not always a member of staff to consult regarding my sister.

When there was an incident at the care home, I was very impressed with the level of communication from the manager of the care house, along with the whistle blowing and safeguarding procedures in place.
It was sad an incident had occurred, but swift action was taken and as a result, as a family, we still have great confidence in the care our mother receives. Thank you and well done.

Mill House Care Home with Nursing provided end of life care for my father. In the short time he stayed at the home, he was happy with the staff. The head nurse was an outstanding professional and the whole team were dedicated and caring towards my father. I can only say that 'TEAM' Mill House Care Home with Nursing provided an outstanding level of care and above all compassion. I must also commend the manager for her outstanding professionalism throughout the whole process.

My 91 year old mother-in-law went to Mill House Care Home to convalesce after her hip replacement. Not only was this nursing home a real home for her at a difficult time it was friendly, efficient, super clean and the food was five star.
Every member of staff went out of their way to make sure mother felt cared for and welcome.
Just as mother was almost ready to go she developed pneumonia and sepsis. It was thanks to the special reaction of the staff that her life was saved. All my family are extremely grateful.

My mother and father were advised by myself ad two sisters as we thought the extra care was needed.
Sadly, my mum died last Saturday and the dignity, help and advice were first class from all the staff we spoke to. When the funeral directors took mum away, all staff including the chef lined the hallway, it was very moving.
My father is obviously suffering because of the loss but again the staff couldn't be more helpful.

My aunt a very private and independent lady of 93 years, came into Mill House Care Home last November following hospitalisation after a stroke. We surrounded her with familiar objects and pictures from her house which contributed to her settling in well. Initially, she spent time in her wheelchair and took part in the numerous activities of residents even making Christmas decorations last year. Latterly she had to have full-time nursing care which was delivered with love and compassion. She thought the home really looked after her and enjoyed the food. I would highly recommend Mill House Care Home for the quality fo care they gave my aunt in her last year of life.

Mother was moved to Mill House from the hospital at the end of life plan.
After two weeks, Mum died, on 1st December, and everything was done for her with care, dignity and respect ... we couldn't have asked for a better home.

From the onset, the manager was reassuring, empathetic and quickly tuned into my dad's needs. Having been discharged from hospital to an appalling home, I needed to get dad to a place of safety and care. The manager turned it all around and with the care and attention of all those involved with dad's care, he is leaving 1 stone heavier, colour in his cheeks and physically much more able.

My father was moved to Mill House from hospital on an end of life plan. He was treated with the utmost care and respect. His nursing was fantastic - when my son and I visited his nurse was feeding dad a full breakfast! My son (who is a doctor) said the home was "lovely - didn't smell of old people and his room and bed was bang on".
Dad died on the 9th of September - after about 6 weeks in Mill House - everyone and everything was done with care, dignity, respect and I cannot thank all of you enough. Thanks.

My mother went into Mill House Care Home with Nursing in June 2016 aged 95. We visited many care homes and looked at CQC reports before we chose this one. It was a hugely emotive time knowing my mother would probably never come home again. As soon as we stepped into Mill House Care Home unannounced, we were welcomed, shown around the home and the efficient new manager listened and was sympathetic to our circumstances. When admitted, the room for Mum was made to feel like home with her furniture etc. The registered nurses and carers were gentle and caring not only to Mum but to all of the family. When leaving the home after visiting and the doors closed, I knew we could trust the staff to look after her and they did right to the end.

I can only truly say that Mill House met and exceeded every possible expectation. All the ladies and all the staff even before he arrived, were so kind and helpful. Even when his forthcoming respite had to quickly be changed to "end of life" you were all so kind in facilitating the move, taking to hospital for his transfer and finally greeting him rather late one evening. From then on he was at peace in great part due to the outstanding care and love he received. For my part you made it possible to be with him day and night with such kindness and sympathy and love. I shall be ever indebted to you all for the quality of those final days.

The kindness and sympathy of the staff at Mill House helped to ease my pain over my mothers last illness. Although she was very confused and agitated, staff were always gentle and patient and gave her excellent care - even though she was sometimes resistant.
Levels of cleanliness were high and food well prepared.

Job Title: Home Manager

Description:

As the Mill House Manager, I lead and support a team to deliver the highest standards of residential and nursing care, improve the lives of our residents and support their independence.

Putting our residents at the centre of all that we do, I enjoy involving them in all aspects of their care and in the running of their home to ensure they are leading happy and fulfilling lives, retaining their dignity, whilst maintaining choice over the care and support they receive.

I also work closely with the local community to involve our home and our residents in all areas of community life.

I have worked as a Manager for 15 years in various services including Mental Health, specialist Dementia nursing and residential care. I have also managed learning disability services and achieved my Level 5 in Leadership and Management, and Dementia Link Worker Award.

I will also bring my extensive experience to Mill House to not only provide great care but to enhance the specialist areas of the home, for example residential dementia services and gold standard end of life care.

My biggest achievement in my career so far was commissioning a service for young people with
Asperger’s Syndrome. I have been working for Caring Homes since 2016 because their value base and mission statement mirror my own beliefs and values for care of the elderly.

I feel very fortunate to be doing a job and working with a great team which gives such fulfilment and which enables us to give the best care and support to our residents and their families.

Originally born in Warwickshire and growing up in Worcestershire, I have lived happily in Gloucestershire for 23 years. I am a country girl at heart and love to walk my two spaniels. I also enjoy clay pigeon shooting and fly fishing. I am starting to travel to far away destinations and enjoy exploring new places… I love an adventure.

Paul Dixon

Job Title: Activities Co-ordinator and Local Liaison

Description:

Paul Dixon has a wealth of experience and a head full of ideas to bring to Mill House Nursing Home in Chipping Campden.

The new Activities Co-ordinator and local liaison, who has lived in the Cotswold village for the past seven years, is keen to get out and forge lasting links with the village community in ways which will benefit both the care home and those he is working with.

Activities are central to the lives and well-being of our residents at Mill House and in just a few short weeks Paul has already started work on an armchair gardening club in connection with a local garden centre and arranged for school-age entertainers to come in to see the residents.

Paul’s career background is in Hotel Management and he has worked throughout the country as well as probably the world’s most famous cruise ship the QE2 where his skills for hospitality, customer care and teamwork were fine-tuned.

After leaving the ship and progressing his career he went on to manage some of the finest hotels in the UK working for Bespoke Hotels and at one stage for the celebrity chef Marco Pierre White.

Looking back the signs of a move into caring were always there, Paul has at each of his hotels always offered a free Christmas meal to a family in need or to an elderly person who might be lonely and he has been involved in fundraising for shelter for the homeless. Hotel management has given Paul the opportunity to host fundraisers, events and activities that enabled the local community to benefit wherever he was based.

After taking a sabbatical and seeing the effects of how care can help the elderly first hand via a family member, Paul thought about a career change leading him to contact Mill House.

The rest, as they say, is history, Paul’s role involves working with the local community raising awareness and bringing together different sectors of the village in ways which will benefit everyone.

He is also responsible for the onsite activities at Mill House.

In his spare time Paul, who has two grown-up children, likes to follow the snow with his partner and enjoys skiing, as long as it is somewhere they can also take Dexter – their West Highland Terrier.
