Although my husband was only in Mill House for three weeks before he passed away, his care and comfort was exceptional. He was clean and comfortable every time I visited, had been washed, changed, shaved, hair combed and looked immaculate. Their lifting equipment was comfortable, simple and easy. He
settled quickly into his routine and seemed happy when I visited. His main carer was exceptional and knew so much about dementia and in particular Capgras Syndrome which my husband suffered from (and some doctors know nothing of). His main nurse was also wonderful and caring - the agency nurses were not quite so good though.
I would often see his carer dancing with the other residents in the lounge, her attention to detail was phenomenal, and she really cared. She was with my husband when he died.
One member of staff, in particular, on reception, was most helpful - all were extremely helpful - I was more than happy to leave my husband in their excellent care.

All the staff at Mill House are very professional and treat my father with great respect. The care and medical teams do a great job, providing for all his needs and are always cheerful when dealing with him. The entertainment team are always looking for ideas to stimulate him and do a great job in getting
entertainment into the home which I know he really enjoys.
I do feel that, due to covid and not being able to get maintenance staff into the home, his room and the lounge are starting to look a bit tired and need refreshing.
I also feel that over the last 12 months the quality of food has fallen and the food doesn’t look as appetising given the fees he is paying.

Thank you for your review and positive comments regarding our home and staff who work hard to deliver high standards of quality care at all times. We pride ourselves on the resident experience and take comments regarding food standards and refurbishment seriously, as it does not reflect the usual positive feedback we receive. We are interested in learning more about your father’s experience and will contact you shortly to discuss the matter further. We are committed to using feedback to continue to build on and improve the services we provide.

Two years ago I would have highly recommended Mill House, but now because of short staffing, I find there are not enough people around to help my mum if needed. Food has deteriorated and is not the sort for an older person. The doctor needs to go in at least once a week, also the hairdresser. Mom's
toilet needs to be cleaned each day. Activities are really good and the staff who are left are very kind and do the best they can.

I came to see my nanna during this challenging time. The care of her was very evident in the way the staff all treated her. She clearly had a good relationship with the staff and was happy with the food and the way she was looked after. COVID restrictions were very tight, as they should be.

The Mill House team have been caring for my Mum for several months now. She entered for respite care initially but shortly after became a permanent resident. I know she is being looked after incredibly well and all her needs are met with kindness, compassion and genuine thoughtfulness. The staff have
been exceptionally responsive with regard to any necessary medical care and in ensuring all proper Covid precautions are met. Thank you for keeping my Mum safe and happy.

Mum has been here for over a year now and despite all the issues with the Coronavirus pandemic and starting issues and change of management, Mill House continues to deliver care and support to Mum. Today was her birthday and they all went above and beyond to make sure she had an extra special day, with
cake, music and bunting - it was fabulous.
Thank you all once again.

Absolutely no worries even at this very stressful time, I have been asked if I would kindly leave a review, and I am delighted to do so. The communication during the present climate has been exceptional from the reception team and especially from the hospitality manager who sends us regular photos and
updates, the images he sends are not generic but photos of our mum involved in activities she always used to love doing. I feel relaxed and consistently reassured that she is happy and that the care team are all exceptional somehow through conversations and emails and through skype and the more recently allowed garden visits have totally taken our worries away.

I have visited Mill House on a number of occasions. The greeting one receives from reception through to other staff is always friendly and welcoming. The Home has recently had a number of improvements made, to help the residents' experience of good quality 'care'. To the visitor it has a palpable 'heart
and soul'. One of the key elements in a good care home is the input from the activities team. At Mill House I have always found this to be excellent. Gem has become a fashionable expression but in relation to the Mill House Activities team I have no hesitation in using this term. Patience, compassion and a desire to ensure each resident has the most fulfilling experience in their later years is what the activities team display. Keep up the good work.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.321)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.321) out of 10 for Mill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.843 for Mill House is calculated as follows: ( (71 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.843
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.478 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mill House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 9 = 0.778
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
