I have visited Mill House on a number of occasions. The greeting one receives from reception through to other staff is always friendly and welcoming. The Home has recently had a number of improvements made, to help the residents' experience of good quality 'care'. To the visitor it has a palpable 'heart
and soul'. One of the key elements in a good care home is the input from the activities team. At Mill House I have always found this to be excellent. Gem has become a fashionable expression but in relation to the Mill House Activities team I have no hesitation in using this term. Patience, compassion and a desire to ensure each resident has the most fulfilling experience in their later years is what the activities team display. Keep up the good work.

The activities team are keeping residents engaged and happy during lockdown. In particular, they have encouraged and welcomed on-line services from the local Church, and are using recorded videos from the Chaplain, who can’t visit personally at present.

The care provided to my friend was exemplary. Every effort was made by all to make sure she was comfortable and her personal requirements were taken care of with a smile and a hug. Mill House is a stand out establishment offering care and assistance to those who need it most - the vulnerable.

The care element was very good and I appreciated the help which I received, particularly from the night staff. The food/catering element in the package did not, unfortunately, suit my needs. Food was not as hot as I would have liked on several occasions.
Reply from Charlotte Schram, Home Manager at Mill HouseWe are delighted to hear that you found the care and support, as well as both the care team and the management at Mill House, to be excellent and would be likely to recommend our home to others. Our catering team works very hard to offer a varied menu to suit everyone’s palate but understand that it won’t suit all of our residents, all of the time. We are happy to offer alternatives if there is something that someone particularly dislikes and our culinary team regularly discuss individual’s likes and dislikes with them. We are currently reviewing the location of the hot trolleys to enable a faster delivery from the trolley to room or servers to table.

Overall care good with some outstanding staff. Many changes with management which has been unsettling and a lack of communication has happened on a few occasions. Activity organisers are excellent and really enthusiastic.
Will be better when carers/nurses are allocated which floor they work on for
continuity and getting to know residents better.
Reply from Charlotte Schram, Regional Manager at Mill HouseThe care and comfort of our residents is always our first priority at Mill House. We are delighted you find the facilities and activities as well as team members at Mill House all to be excellent and would recommend our home to others. Our new permanent manager has now started at Mill House and her door will always be open to residents and relatives to discuss any feedback or questions they may have.

Generally, I feel more confident in the level of care and support my mother is currently receiving. The carers who attend her generally understand her needs and make her feel secure and content. The activities team make every effort to include her in all suitable activities. Even at weekends, Mill House
has a buzz about it which makes us as visitors feel confident and happy when visiting. Keep it up, please.

Home has dated décor, nothing special, a bit magnolia cheap bland and basically just two floors of boring average rooms, its as though the home was done on the cheap without a designer or personality. But care good staff 10 out of 10.
Food always late but 9 out of 10.
Cleanliness good 9 out of 10.
Activities
extremely good 10 out of 10.
Garden bit like anyone's garden at home ok but nothing special 6 out of 10.
Lounge upstairs terrible far too dark to read a magazine even with all lights on, downstairs lounge very tired average almost shabby not sure if its true but I was told some lights in the lounge are fake and just for show so are not designed to work. But in spite of the décor, this is a top-notch home.
Reply from Tracey Fletcher-Ray, Managing Director at Mill HouseThank you for your feedback and your positive comments with regard to the service provided at Mill House, we pride ourselves on providing good quality care and it is a real pleasure to know that the substantial efforts of our staff are appreciated. Your comments about the tardiness of the food were passed back to the Home Manager to resolve, and I hope an improvement has been noted.
Your comments regarding the Home’s décor and garden have been taken onboard, and you will be pleased to know that we are in the process of reviewing some changes and upgrades in certain areas of the Home. Details will be communicated by the Home in due course

I had no idea you could review care homes until I chatted to another relative today in the lounge.
We agonised for a very long time about putting him into a care home for a short break, our biggest worry was that he would be alone in his room or stuck in front of a TV all day. A friend mentioned the
Mill House Facebook page, after looking at it as a family we decided to approach the home.
In the end we decided to give it a go, there were activities every day but for two days he was ill and could not leave the bedroom. We were astounded when we visited to find the activities staff singing to him in his room, they said 'oh we always do this if residents can’t make it to activities, we visit them.'
We have no negatives at all about Mill House and will be using it again for as he himself puts it, his next holiday. Brilliant care staff, spotlessly clean, dated but comfortable bedroom with tiny TV, ten out of ten for this home, will be telling our friends.

VERY good home, but, often our friend was not up and dressed, lunch is often over 45 minutes late, dinner could be served at any odd time. Everything else though is wonderful. The activities manager who had been promoted and he said he would take ownership of our worries about food times and that he
had support of the home manager to do this. He said the manager was new but passionate about making the home the best it could be.
Our next visits ran like clockwork, so they have now sorted everything. The lady in the office is delightful, she was key to us choosing Mill House, she had worked there many years and would always be on hand if we wanted to pop in she was professional and answered our questions.
On my visits I have seen the activities staff bring a pony into the lounge, take a cake and sing happy birthday and on my last visit, the lady and new promoted gentleman were dancing with the residents. Care staff were often hard to find but were always very professional. This is a very good home.

This home has changed significantly, I almost have to make an appointment when visiting my friend as there are so many activities going on. I used to be able to pop in and she was always pleased to see me, now I call in advance to make sure she is not busy as her social life is better than mine. The
whole home and atmosphere is extremely good, but the guy who does the activities has brought this place to life, I visited recently and the royal wedding decor looked like it had been professionally decorated by an external company. I later found out the day’s events were being run by the activities man and a chef, they had wedding dresses, a huge wedding cake and champagne, that’s a care home I hope I end up in.

My wife stayed at Mill House for the last 2 months of her life having suffered 2 strokes on top of Alzheimer's.
She was not aware of her surroundings and had to be fed through a peg.
She never left her bed except for washing,
Despite all that, she was cared for considerably and diligently by the
excellent staff at Mill House. She could not have finished her life more comfortably and with better care.

I am a Local Volunteer Coordinator for a charity called Mindsong. Part of what we do is bring meaningful singing sessions to care homes in the Gloucestershire area.
We have been bringing a group into Mill House fortnightly since November 2017.
I can honestly say it is an absolute pleasure to come
here and we are always met with enthusiasm and love from residents, staff and visiting relatives.
The group making up the volunteers are so enjoying bringing these sessions. Long may they continue!
We also are pleased to be featured on what seems to be a very active programme of events featured on your Facebook page.
Heres to lots more singing, smiling and fun.

I and my whole extended family feel my mother was given the best of care, given the very sad circumstances. We knew the moment we walked into the home it would be the best place for her to end her days. She never-benefited from the homes facilities or lovely views, but everyone seemed to be very professional
and kind to her, despite in some ways her being a difficult patient. There were some outstanding members of staff, who when the end of life came gave my mother dignity, of which I am so grateful.

Mill House Care Home with Nursing is well decorated and clean with excellent staff who are very caring. It is always warm and the food is very good and continually changing the menu. My 90-year-old father spent 5 weeks in Mill House. He was extremely well treated right from his initial visit, his entry assessment and throughout his stay. A friendly and caring environment.

visited and the staff always had time for us, whatever questions we might ask.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.558)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.558) out of 10 for Mill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.858 for Mill House is calculated as follows: ( (92 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.858
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mill House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
