My mother recently received respite care at Newlands while I was on holiday. She had a fantastic week ad thoroughly enjoyed her stay. The staff and facilities are superb and everyone did their utmost to ensure her stay was as safe and pleasant as possible.
I will definitely be using Newlands again
if there is a room free as I know my mum will so look forward to another stay here in the future. Thank you.

After a fall where my friend broke her hip and had to go into hospital, she received immediate attention by staff who called for an ambulance. Three weeks later, after a very poorly handled discharge, they had to nurse my friend round the clock to rehydrate her and feed her. Their care and dedication
is obvious and nothing is too much trouble or rushed. Carers all seem very patient, caring and kind. I am sure they will get my friend on her feet once again.

Upon her admittance, my mother was very ill. Throughout her stay, all staff were very kind, considerate and caring. Nothing was ever too much trouble. I could not praise this care home too highly, it was excellent.

From the outset, my experience has been all positive in spite of sensitive issues with my companion's family. They are professional, helpful, intelligent and listen to my companions opinions with regarding his situation. Dignity and respect are paramount when dealing with residents and positive stimulation
is extremely important. this is a superior care home with beautiful gardens and building. It has a calm ambience and their best asset is their wonderful staff, to whom I give my heartfelt thanks.

My father moved to Newlands in November last year and died there early October this year. A week before he died, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and we and he were very fortunate in that he was able to stay in his own room where his end of life care was most beautifully and sensitively managed,
by the staff who he had come to know and trust. He did not enjoy the experience of giving up his independence to move to a home, and at times he could be difficult and demanding, but his final care was exemplary and done with so much warmth and respect.

My father was admitted to the home last November. He was not happy about having to leave his own home and as a result he was little challenging to care for. Over the months his health deteriorated and all the care staff always treated him with respect and cheerfulness. Over the months he got to know
and rely on many of the carers, he became interested in them and their lives. It was wonderful that at the end of his life the carers who he grew to know were there in his final days. They nursed him with respect and love and as a result he had a peaceful and dignified death.

Liz has overseen Newlands since her arrival in 2022, both in an operational capacity and as manager. Liz purposefully keeps everything running smoothly and ensures Newland's demanding standards of quality are maintained.


Her approachable manner, calm demeanour and great sense of humour mean she is much loved by residents and their families who appreciate her knowledge and kind counsel.


Liz’s career path in nursing and the care sector is highly respected by her peers, naturally conveying her compassion, understanding and knowledge. Her exceptional leadership is driven by outstanding communication and team building, reflected in the high staff retention, first-rate care and renowned Newlands hospitality delivered by the team.

Phillippa

Phillippa Bailey

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2025

Joining the Newlands team in September 2025 as General Manager, Phillippa combines her extensive knowledge, skills, and senior management experience, across Newlands nursing home and the retirement community.


Philippa’s nursing journey started in Oxford, and she has now been a Registered General Nurse for over 35 years.


It was her appetite for nursing that led Phillippa into the care community, where she has loved the variety the sector brings. Her role means that no two days are the same, each brings with it, new opportunities, her goal is to always make a difference to residents’ lives.


A great innovator, Phillippa is continually learning and growing, her passion is creating environments where residents feel truly cared for. She is always seeking new ways to improve care and make a meaningful difference; and above all to see her residents smile.
