Painswick Care Home have offered an exceptional service. My father went in fairly able, and they gave him his freedom and our confidence he was being well cared for. He went on regular trips which he enjoyed as well as the activities and the food. As his mental and physical health deteriorated they unobtrusively supported him and cared for him. Later, as he reached end of life, they provided dignity and expert care to ensure he was safe and comfortable. Without exception, the staff were professional, caring and very kind to him and his family. Cannot recommend them highly enough. And am so grateful for what they gave my father, he was in the best place possible for a difficult end of life.

After my Mother fell, in her independent living apartment at Richmond Villages, that fractured her hip, she required time in the care home, within the development, to recover, after hospital treatment. This was the first time I had directly been in contact with the care sector and was unsure what to expect.
Having been involved in numerous care homes over 35 years as a Landscape Architect dealing with outside spaces, I had seen many care homes, some of which were challenging, to say the least. Richmond Painswick is a 5-star plus.
However, to my relief, no such worries were needed. Whilst my mum was confused by her experience, the care, the kindness and the high standard of nursing were highly evident. The head of the department took us under her wing and very quickly put my and my wife's concerns at rest. The level of communication is outstanding.

I cannot recommend this place more highly to anyone, whose close relative needs that bit of extra care in their life.

Having been widowed in November last year Richmond has been my saving grace.
Everyone here has been kind, caring and sensible in their approach. The care home was the right place to be initially, and then in July, my transfer to an assisted living apartment made my life perfect.

My children were right!

Great care was taken in helping my husband to settle and gradually encouraging him to participate in group activities. He has settled well and is enjoying the activities. He is clearly both well and happily cared for as an individual. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming whenever visiting and queries or comments are always acceptable.

My mother has been in the care home following a fall in May 2022. She has received appropriate care throughout the year until the present time when she is nearing the end of her life. I believe that my mother would not have lived as long if she had not been in such a caring environment.

The Richmond is a beautiful setting with staffing to back this up. My father's life was undoubtedly extended by at least two years by the care he received. He was treated with respect, kindness, dignity and indeed affection. His stay despite the covid pandemic at the beginning gave him at least twelve months of an Indian summer of pleasure and worthwhile activities which he thoroughly enjoyed before increasing frailty intervened. He was kept clean, comfortable and peaceful throughout his lengthy decline to death. The staff were always friendly and open to us when visiting and the care home felt like a genuine home, not an institution.

I spent two weeks having respite at Painswick care home from 25th July until 8th August. I have nothing but praise for all the carers and nursing staff with whom I came into contact. I was able to go out each day to spend time with my son and his family and he returned me to the care home each evening. The arrangement worked out perfectly and I hope to repeat this in future.

We are so thankful for what Richmond have done for my mother at such short notice. The staff are courteous, helpful and posses huge amounts of patience and humour. It was the perfect tonic that my mother needed after breaking her hip and being isolated in hospital with covid. Her room was beautiful, airy and clean and all her needs were exceptionally well catered for. The location is perfect, beautiful and the grounds very well maintained. It makes for the perfect place to re-cuperate. My mother's time in hospital was traumatic. Not only was she admitted with a broken hip but she also tested positive for covid meaning isolation with no access to family or friends. Added to that was the operation to pin her hip and it create the perfect concoction for a very traumatic experience. Arriving at Richmond was a huge relief for all of us, knowing she would be well cared for and could begin her recuperation. Your staff was amazing. We cannot thank you all enough.

My very elderly mother moved to Meadow View with pneumonia which she contracted after having a fall at home. She was on oxygen and a drip being attended to by the NHS Rapid Response team who continued to attend her in the home working closely with the Nursing and Care Staff. After 4 weeks in bed and at her great age we wondered if she would be able to sit up again let alone walk. Four months later my mother is managing to get herself from a chair to a wheelchair and to walk a few steps. Moving into a care setting has been and still is a real shock for her having been a very independent lady all her life. The sensitivity and kindness shown by the staff have been outstanding. Her own determination has been a major factor in enabling her to return to the level of mobility she is now at but alongside this has been the excellent care and facilitation by the staff in supporting and encouraging her in her desire to get better and stronger at every step. Thank you!

My close friend who was severely disabled with multiple sclerosis first stayed at Painswick for respite care after a hospital admission and loved the people and the care and kindness she encountered there. When it became too difficult for her to continue to live independently in her own home she chose to come to live at Painswick - nowhere else would do.
Leaving her home was an extremely difficult decision to make. The Clinical and Care Team from Painswick came to visit her at her house to gain a clear idea of her needs and expectations, and she also visited Painswick again too to choose her room.

A great deal of care was taken to make her feel 'at home' once she moved in. Her own paintings and furniture came too, and even some of her garden potted plants were placed outside the french doors to her room. The staff, many of whom she knew were consistently welcoming and sensitive to her needs.

After an unpleasant time in hospital, we were able to get my father-in-law aged ninety-two moved to Richmond Painswick, very rapidly thanks to the efforts of the care home team. From our first meeting, the unbelievable care and professionalism of the whole team have been beyond reproach. They have all, from management to the diligent cleaners have always treated us as members of the family, and treated my father-in-law as if he were their own. Even during the more stressful times of Covid they have supported us and eased the worry of having an aging loved one. Their empathy has meant that we are always treated with compassion, respect and also kept informed, no matter how busy they all are. A smile and the offer of a cuppa are all you need sometimes. The diligence of the team has meant that any change in his health is spotted and dealt with rapidly. And the atmosphere created is that of a 5-star hotel, just what my father-in-law deserves. Very impressed!

Reply from Cara Wood, Head of Care/Registered Manager at Richmond Villages Painswick

Thank you very much for your kind words, It certainly uplifts the morale of all the team who do go above and beyond. I will pass on to them all. It is at absolute pleasure to support your father-in-law and we do pride ourselves on ensuring we imbed a family support network. A cuppa Tea is certainly always on hand. I found being here after a spinal fusion operation, really a very pleasant experience. Everyone from the manager to the nurses, carers were cheerful, obliging, and caring. Not a crossword to be heard!
The meals were delicious, nourishing, and enjoyable. A good variety was available.

After a traumatic and emotional experience in another care home, we moved Mum/gran into Richmond Care Home Painswick. Right from the first time we spoke to the team, they accepted us into their family, within 24 hours mum/gran was moved in. Her room was so homely and the team couldn’t do enough to ensure her comfort. The staff are phenomenal, the support they have given us, helped us more than they will ever know. Mum/gran was able to receive the best nursing care during her final weeks/days, her comfort was their number one priority. We were able to spend quality time with Mum/Gran reminiscing with the team. We cannot recommend this care home enough, we only wish we had found it sooner.

My wife arrived at Painswick in late February, having spent two difficult and uncomfortable weeks in hospital. (No problems with the medical treatment). On arrival, she was made most welcome and quickly settled into the ‘Painswick’ way of life. The general improvement in health and mindset quickly became apparent as a result of the care she was receiving. I have regularly visited the home - COVID-19 permitting - and always found the staff (from reception to carers most helpful). My wife now calls Richmonds her second home. The way she is and has been looked after gives me and the family great comfort. Our grateful thanks to all involved.

I am not able to discuss these details as my husband in an inpatient in hospital undergoing rental investigations and dialysis due to kidney failure. Overall we enjoyed our 4 week stay and benefitted from it. It was like living in a welcoming hotel with nursing available. The staff tried very hard to please and we think they succeeded. The down marking of the rooms is only because of the complete disregard for safety in the bathrooms. It is a waste of excellent fixtures and fittings. The rating related to the care home only.

My mother has been staying at Richmond since the middle of March, and I have completed this review. Generally, she has settled very well and finds the staff caring and responsive. The food is excellent, and Mum enjoys eating with the other residents in the main dining room, despite the requirement to socially distance at this time, which does make it harder to talk to people. She finds the waiting staff particularly kind and helpful as they always take the time to ensure she is sitting as comfortably as possible.
Mum appreciates being part of the care home community and the opportunity to socialise with the other residents. For example, today the residents were invited to help celebrate the birthday of a fellow resident by sharing a birthday cake.

Mum sometimes finds it noisy at night when the staff are talking to each other. They may not be aware of how their voices carry.

Reply from Daniel Mcauley, Senior Village Advisor at Richmond Villages Painswick

I have no previous experience of respite but needed recovery time after having elective hip replacement. The lockdown occurred within days, which entailed no visitors and none of the wellness services that required non-essential outside staff (physio, hairdressing etc). Good Wi-fi and Library. I felt very well looked after although there were many and varied staff members supplemented by agency staff. Most staff were lovely and very caring. My room was excellent, with a patio door leading onto a Mediterranean courtyard which was a really comfortable hot spot. The upper-level terrace and outside seating were also very welcome, as I wanted to walk but did not feel like venturing into the gardens.

The menus had an excellent choice and the meals far better than I had anticipated. I have since missed being so well catered for. I could have eaten in either the care home restaurant or the general restaurant but chose to eat in my room. The catering staff were also friendly and caring.
