Westbourne has been my mum’s home for the last 2 years and they have done everything they can to care for her with compassion and dignity. The staff are always helpful and approachable. I am so thankful for all they do for mum.

What can I say? My husband needed to go into care and I tried three short respite stays before I found Westbourne. When he came to Westbourne for a two-week stay he was very happy, he therefore stayed permanently. He has not looked back. He really enjoyed some of the musical activities in the afternoons.
The staff are like family members that the residents really engage with. The staff are very professional and very very caring too. I visited quite a lot and was always treated with respect and friendliness from all staff and management and a cup of tea was never far away. Of all four homes I tried first I would rate this one as ‘tops’.

The food is excellent. I have stayed for lunch and supper and have always enjoyed the food and there are choices for the residents to select what they would like. Nothing is too much bother for them. Well done to all the Westbourne family.

Reply from Frances O'Shaughnessy, Business Administrator at Westbourne Care HomeThank you so much for your review. We are so pleased your husband felt at home with us. We love relatives coming in to visit and join in with the activates.

My mum has been at Westbourne for 5 years now and is 93. The home itself is always very clean and the staff and management are extremely caring and approachable. During her time here she has had some major health issues including a severe stroke. They have been so supportive throughout and feel I can
go to them with any concerns and they will be listened to. The manager is amazing and both she and her staff go above and beyond to care for their residents. There have been short periods during this time, particularly after the COVID outbreak where they have been understaffed but this has been addressed and serious investment in training for staff has been evident in their numerous qualification achievements. My mum wouldn't want to be anywhere else and I wouldn't want her to be anywhere else either.
Reply from Frances O'Shaughnessy, Business Administrator at Westbourne Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to review. It is a pleasure caring for your mum, and we are so glad she remains happy here.

The hardest decision a family may have to make is to put a parent into care. Westbourne staff helped ease that decision. From the initial home visit to Mum becoming a resident, we found the staff friendly, caring and dedicated. Westbourne Care Home is a home that cares.

It's early days but mother-in-law has settled in well, seems happy and is well cared for. We have no concerns about her care or welfare. The management and staff are very friendly, supportive and caring.
There are activities arranged every day including some outings to the local country park and other
places of interest. She was very pleased to be able to have a bath, after many years of only being able to have a sit-down shower at home! There is a pleasant garden area where we hope to be able to sit during our visits, should the weather improve.

The staff at Westbourne Care Home give my brother the best attention. The manager and assistant manager are very helpful in wanting to sort out any problems which my brother may have. The staff are very friendly towards my brother, making him feel at home. Things have not been easy in the home due to
Covid restrictions but, even so, the staff have worked hard to make sure that every need and comfort is met for the residents. I am so pleased that my brother is in the care of Westbourne Care Home!

It’s difficult for me to express my feelings towards all the staff at Westbourne for the great work and kindness they show for the residents. But every time I pop along it’s like he’s with family and that is such a special feeling ( I have been known to well up on a few occasions). From the first day
my uncle arrived they have gone beyond being carers as he is treated more like a family member. Due to Covid we couldn’t visit in the early days but just chatting with the staff you could tell how well after just a few days they knew him and all of his little habits (he’s a hugger) - this was very reassuring. He’s now been there for 6 months and I wouldn’t want anyone else to care for him; all the staff are brilliant. If this review helps you decide to place a loved one here I’m sure that after a short period you will understand what I’m trying to say, words can’t express how I feel about my uncle and his extended family at Westbourne, it’s perfect.
Reply from Mel Marchant, Manager at Westbourne Care HomeI am so glad that you feel that your relative has settled well into the Westbourne family and is feeling welcome and cared for as you would wish. Thank you for your kind words which I have shared with the team.

Dad was in for 12 nights respite care while I was away on holiday. I chose this home as it had good reviews. They assured me dad could sleep in a recliner as this was what he does at home which was a very important requirement. Before the stay, we arranged to FaceTime home to see and speak to the staff
and get a feel for the place. As due to COVID they had safety measures in place which I was very impressed with. Dad had a lovely room and settled in well. He enjoyed the food and the staff even went out and got him his regular fish and chips on a Saturday and a McDonald’s meal in the week which he loves. The staff were very friendly and helpful. He was showered every day which was brilliant as this is difficult at home. Dad said he would be happy to go back in again for another respite break later in the year which is great news as it’s reassuring to know he will be happy and well looked after. I would definitely recommend this care home to anyone looking for care for a loved one.

We cannot believe how perfect Westbourne was for Mum, allowing her to enjoy the last year or so of her life in a caring and stimulating environment. All of the carers were thoughtful and kind and had the knack of making Mum feel like she was the most important person they cared for. The variety of activities
also helped to keep her stimulated and she even did some things that we would never have imagined her doing. The excellent food also deserves a mention. Westbourne also made Dad very welcome and although he wasn’t there for long, it was to our great relief that we knew he was so well cared for and close to Mum. Covid-19 has been such a huge burden for the home, but we very much appreciated the effort made last summer to permit visitors into the garden with the staff always making us feel welcome. The care offered at Westbourne was above and beyond what we expected and all our family cannot recommend it highly enough. A well-managed lovely home.
Reply from Josie Dalli, Director at Westbourne Care HomeSuch lovely words, thank you so much - our staff really value feedback like this and we are so grateful. We loved having them both and they are much missed. Best wishes, Josie, Mel, Karen, Karina and the whole Westbourne Team.

Westbourne was Mum's home for almost three years. Mum settled in very well and enjoyed all the activities on offer especially the bingo. The last year or so jigsaw puzzles became one of her favourites and she was often busy in the lounge sorting out the pieces. Quiet times in her room would find
her completing word searches or reading one of her many books. Mum was always happy. The staff were kind and considerate and showed her much respect. During the lockdown Mum became ill and the care and support given to her and our family was second to none. Not being able to visit at this time was difficult for us all but knowing Mum was not alone, that someone was with her constantly was a great comfort.
Thank you, Westbourne we know we chose the right place for Mum to live.

A very warm and inviting home. It was a very big step for my Mum and the staff at Westbourne have ensured that mum settled in nothing was too much trouble. I was able to visit before lock-down and was made to feel very welcome and free to take mum out. Also subsequently staff have ensured that we can
speak to mum on her phone and set up face-time calls. Also, the value for money is excellent.
Reply from Josie Dalli, Director at Westbourne Care HomeWe know how hard it is to make the move, and we try to help as much as possible. The face time calls are really good at the moment, aren't they! Roll on proper visits. Your mum always puts a smile on our faces.

Having looked at several homes for the care of my mother, who suffers with dementia, Westbourne stood out for me as a professional, caring, homely, fun place to be and it was the only home I felt comfortable booking my mother in to. I visited the home unannounced and was warmly greeted by one of the
Senior carers who offered to show me around the home there and then. I was very impressed with the manner of all the staff I met that day and their positive interactions with the residents. I was greeted with a smile and hello by everyone I met. The home ethos is person-centered care. The leadership of the home is excellent, presenting as caring for the staff and the residents very well. The activity leader provides stimulating, inclusive activities, whatever residents' needs are. I believe the activities provision to be outstanding. The carers, housekeeping staff, maintenance staff and catering staff are all caring and respectful of the residents. The menus are great.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.324)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.324) out of 10 for Westbourne Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.549 for Westbourne Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (111 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (10 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 144 Ratings = 4.549
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westbourne Care Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
