So grateful for the way the manager and team looked after my mother while she stayed at Westbourne. In addition their extra kindness to me during a difficult period after a major surgical procedure. (Finding me a zimmer frame). I cannot commend the staff highly enough and find great consolation in that
my mothers final days were spent at ease and pain free.

My mother has been at Westbourne for 18months now and definitely considers it her home. She has got to know many of the staff who are friendly, caring, and efficient. She has poor mobility, but is fine mentally and is able to join in the full range of activities including quizzes, cooking and handicrafts
and exercise classes. There is generally one or two activities daily apart from Sundays and these help greatly with keeping her mind and body active and the coordinator is excellent.
The food seems to be varied and nutritious and staff always offer refreshment for visiting relatives and are always welcoming whatever the time of day. Her medical needs are well looked after too - I would certainly recommend this Nursing Home.

They have been looking after mum for more than a year now. I am really happy with the care she has received from the people there. A difficult job but they always find time to talk and never hide from answering questions or concerns.

Westbourne has a very wide range of activities to suit all abilities and residents are encouraged to join in. They have a pet bird and regular visit from PAT Dog Noah. They have also had a clutch of chickens to watch hatch and visits from a falconer and an exotic animal zoo.
The staff are all very
helpful and attentive to the residents with visitors being welcomed with a cup of tea or coffee.
The residents' spiritual needs are also catered for with Communion once a month.

Westbourne cared for my mother for last 10 months of her life. We found this to be a wonderful home with very caring staff and a very positive atmosphere. There is an amazing programme of activities running all the time and this enabled my mother to obtain both mental and physical stimulation throughout
her stay. When she entered the home she was one of the ablest residents and she was always treated as an individual and the staff were anxious to ensure she was settled and as happy as she could be. After a spell in the hospital, she returned for the last few weeks of her life needing full nursing care which the home provided. They treated her with dignity and respect and knew exactly how to handle her last days. They've just got it right.

Westbourne Care Home cared for my mum in the last few weeks of her life. Without exception the staff always showed compassion and kindness towards both her and my family. On the first few nights of her stay my mum was frightened and she told me how one nurse sat and held her hand.
The nursing staff
gave my family and I the freedom to play as much or as little a part in her care as we needed. We were supported to make her room our own and we always felt welcomed. It was never too much trouble to make us a hot drink when we arrived or listen patiently to our many concerns. I'd like to say thank you to everyone at Westbourne for helping to make this difficult time more bearable.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.324)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.324) out of 10 for Westbourne Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.549 for Westbourne Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (111 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (10 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 144 Ratings = 4.549
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westbourne Care Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

In 2015, I began my journey at Westbourne as a care assistant when it was a nursing home. My battle with cancer inspired me to pursue a career dedicated to giving back to society. In 2021, I was appointed Deputy Manager of Westbourne and worked towards completing my NVQ 5 in leadership and management to succeed Mel Marchant as the Registered Manager. With the achievement of my Dementia Lead Award in 2022, I am now striving towards The Gold Standards Framework award, driven by my passion for providing the best end-of-life care for our residents.
