As my mum has been at Westbourne for over 4 years this is my second review.
My mum has always been and still is really happy there.
Westbourne is like one big happy family with a great atmosphere, the staff are really friendly, happy, work hard and always willing to have a chat. They care for the
residents with dignity and compassion.
Any issues I have with my mum are dealt with promptly.
All the meals are good with plenty of variety and choice.
The activities lady is fantastic with all the residents. There is always lots of different activities going on and the residents and staff have so much fun. The staff love dressing up for different events, which the residents really enjoy. In the summer they went on trips to Weston super mare, a wildlife park and various others. I would not hesitate in recommending this care home for anyone looking for a place for their loved one.
Reply from Frances O'Shaughnessy, Business Administrator at Westbourne Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to leave us such a glowing review! It really means so much to all the team here at Westbourne to hear such lovely words! It is an absolute pleasure to care for your mum, and we are so glad she feels happy and safe with us.

I was with my Mum, when she had her first month review. We were asked if we had any complaints, and I can honestly say no!
The moment my sister and I went through the front door at Green Willow,it felt like home- so warm and welcoming. Every single member of staff, I have come across, is warm, friendly,
but professional - and always smiling. My Mum is a very social person, and has thrown herself into the majority of the varied activities provided twice daily- even going on trips out.
The care home is kept immaculately clean, as is Mum's room. The communication between my siblings and I, and the staff, is fantastic- we are kept informed all the time. A senior nurse practitioner, visits the care home once a week, as a new resident, Mum was seen during her first week there. Visitors are always made to feel very welcome, younger visitors even have toys provided.
I have been so impressed how quickly the staff have got to know my Mum, she is very happy being a resident of Green Willow.

My family and I are truly happy with the care that our mum receives at the home. Each and every member of the staff are wonderful and treat mum with great patience and respect. You have a real sense that is it a family and our mum is an important person in it. Every day there are activities which mum
always joins and enjoys. The home is so clean and is regularly deep cleaned and the food choices are excellent. I honestly cannot fault anything and am just so pleased that mum moved here when she was no longer able to live at home. I would highly recommend Green Willow and give it 5 stars.

Cleeve Lodge Residential Care Home

Cleeve, it's very homely and clean, and most staff are kind and caring, but mum knows the ones that are not, and I have noticed too. My mum has had Rheumatoid Arthritis since she was 46. Mum gets anxious and has had pain in her life for a long time. Nights can be a problem for her, she gets confused.
Night staff are not very caring or kind. These staff work the day too, and I've noticed there care! Mum has been in Cleeve since May. She had a stroke. Since mum has been in Cleeve, she has had 4 falls, 2 of her own doing. Each time one happens, I notice a bit of my mum disappear! And I wonder what will happen the next time, it's these staff that let the home down, sorry to the kind and caring ones.
Reply from Josie Dalli, Director at Cleeve Lodge Residential Care HomeWe know how hard it is to watch someone decline through dementia and as we have said in our many meetings, we can minimise the risk of falling but there is no perfect balance between some independent mobility and the risk of occasional falls and no care home can stop falls happening totally. As we have also told you, we cannot catch her if she is falling, we are only legally allowed to help lower her to the ground. I am so sorry that you are struggling with some of the staff who might not be from your culture, we have a huge variety of staff and we have reassured you that they are all highly trained and very caring and your mum and other Residents definitely agree. I am so glad that we were able to sit down with you to hear your thoughts and we welcome any suggestions although I am disappointed that you wrote this review based on staff that you do not know. We look forward to keeping talking to you to iron out your concerns and to your family who are happy with her care.

We removed Mum from Westbourne at the end of October 2025 due to being unhappy with the care she was receiving. For the 18months or so that Mum was a resident, there seemed to be problem after problem. Initially, furniture was dumped not far from Mum's window & we had to nag to get it removed. She was
never properly assessed for a DoLS (deprivation of liberty safeguard) despite my constant request, as I knew Mum didn't have 'full capacity'. Mum's personal care was pretty shocking. I constantly found dirty underwear in her drawers. Her toenails were left to grow so long, that Mum struggled to get shoes on. Staff turnover was horrendous. The new manageress lasted five weeks in the summer! Communication was awful. The phone would ring & ring and emails quite often unanswered - even at head office level. The home even had the audacity to report me to the authorities saying I removed Mum against her will! We have POA & have always had Mum's best interest at heart.
Reply from Josie Dalli, Director at Westbourne Care HomeWe loved having your Mum with us & she loved being here and that is why we were so worried about her leaving so distressed and questioning why. We recognise (tried to explain & offered Social Worker support to help which you refused) that she does not have full capacity, however, she does have capacity to decide what she wants to wear and who she wants to spend time with etc. We would never override her own decisions if she was safe as you asked us to (and no care home ever should). She had great friends at Westbourne and was a key member of all our brilliant WellBeing activities. She refused chiropody footcare and you failed to help us when we asked you to support us in trying to encourage her. Your Mum was always immaculate and DoLs was fully assessed as you know. I am so sorry that you feel this way, we all tried our very best for your Mum and it was you who we could not satisfy, not her. Fortunately, your brother was very grateful for her care and sent chocolates to say thank you.

I wanted to go into respite care to give my husband a break from being my full time carer. I wasn't sure where I should go or what I should do. Through the council I was placed at Westbourne Care Home. I can only say positive things bout Westbourne Care. They have made me feel really comfortable and

The staff at Green Willow, from managers to carers, kitchen staff and cleaners, all work hard and usually with a smile.
The home therefore has a good atmosphere and my Dad has settled well.
The environment is attractive with 2 lounges and lovely gardens wrapped around the building.
There are obviously
challenges with providing care to residents with different needs, both physical and mental, and the team appear to try hard to provide individualised care.
Visitors, both family and friends, are welcomed and can join in activities as they wish.
There is an excellent alarm system which detects if a resident is on the floor in their room.
Residents can have their own landline phone and wi-fi appears to be adequate
My only issues are with the call bell system, with bells ringing frequently. As a visitor, I find this challenging, but Dad is deaf and with his room door closed, it does not distress him.
I do not know a solution to this - care staff are busy with other residents
Reply from Amy-Louise Lee, Registered Manager at Green Willow Residential HomeThank you for your review, we love that Dad keeps us all on our toes with his daily wordle and sudoku! We appreciate at times the call bell system can appear to ring more frequently at certain times of the day, every bedroom, bathroom, lounge, fire door and our front door are all linked to the system so even when the bells are answered, if support is requested in succession it can seem continuous despite it being different individuals seeking support from the team.

Every member of the team makes it their mission to look after every aspect of care. The team understands the needs and foibles of each resident, and
they adapt to and respect their individuality. Communications between family members with Green Willow are excellent which is reassuring and appreciated especially by those who are not nearby.

My husband came initially for 2 weeks respite after spending 5 weeks in Worthing Hospital, he was still poorly so we made the decision to get respite which went well, so well in fact that he became a permanent resident. He has slowly made improvement. He is well looked after and the staff take the greatest
care of him. He likes the food and I am welcomed whatever time I turn up (which helps me). He goes out on bus trips and joins in activities although also quite happy in his own room with a view of the pretty garden.
