The home is set in the most beautiful and peaceful location, and the staff and manager go above and beyond to make a homely, welcoming and stimulating environment for residents and visitors alike. My family can't praise and thank the staff of Immacolata House enough. My father lived there for the last 3 years of his life. I particularly want to thank them for their care for my father in the last days of his life. Even though he wasn't really aware of his surroundings, the carers continued to treat him with kindness and respect and continued to make him comfortable. They were also so kind to my family and I as we spent his final hours with him. We will never forget them.

The staff are always pleasant and helpful. The necessary security means 'dropping in' takes a long time. I am concerned that the person I visit is never in a wheelchair that she could move around many be using her feet - she did this all the time before she went into hospital. Now she is stuck in one place in the lounge or her room unable to move herself. This will make her physically weaker and socially isolated. She might benefit from an electric wheelchair. I am a health professional.

Thank God, after nearly a year in a locked ward in this "care home", the family of this resident has eventually managed to get him moved to a nice homely care home closer to his home of Yeovil. When one of us plucked up the courage to criticise this place, the manager quickly said that he would be evicted to another place, no matter what home or how far away and we did not have a say in it, despite his partner having full power of attorney for him. We have found this ward to show not an ounce of compassion for its clients (as the manager likes to call them) and the atmosphere could not be less homely. Since last March he has been reduced from a fairly fit and a little overweight man in his late sixties with very poor eyesight and poor hearing to an underweight (lost 30 kilos) dependent shadow of his former self, now having previously non-existing conditions of incontinence, total blindness, a need for someone to feed him and dress him.

At present, it is very hard to give an informed review.
Since my uncle has moved into the care home, there have always been Covid restrictions.

I would like to be kept more informed of any activities he is involved in.

My husband has Parkinson's with Lew Body Dementia. He is well looked after and always has his own clothes on and is clean and well-shaven. Medication is on time so important with Parkinson's. He is now mobile but has a special chair so that he can be taken to the community room and dining room. We are kept well informed if he is poorly.

The grounds are a nice approach to the home and provide a pleasant and quiet area to wait with a resident. On reaching the entrance automatic doors are a simple and welcoming feature. Unfortunately, these are lev open sometimes and the air is full of flies. Sadly the visitor's toilet is behind a secure door, which is a bit embarrassing.

The staff are generally friendly and attentive although they don't communicate all the decisions of management. The resident's room is kept clean and tidy. I haven't tried the meals but the cup of tea strangely came without milk. There are no signs of activities.

Sue was born in the West Midlands, in 1977 she moved to Gloucestershire and started a career in Catering Management. In 1989, after moving back to Birmingham, Sue started her Nursing career, first as a student nurse then moving to her first post on a stroke ward. Sue continued to work in various nursing roles.

In 2015, Sue joined Notaro Homes; her reason was that she viewed the company as small enough to be personal, yet large enough to be effective and combined with an excellent local reputation. Sue has had a keen interest in Dementia care since 2009, which she continues to develop. She also holds a teaching qualification and enjoys mentoring students both pre- and post-registration.
