Dad, who has dementia, has been at the Orchards since January 2023. The love and care he has received has been exceptional. Truly amazing. I have also been so very touched and taken with the love and affection that families and visitors receive too. Nothing is a problem if you need something. I know
dad has been hard work, and everyone was so tolerant and patient while he took some time to settle in. I am constantly grateful. It feels like home.
Reply from Ruth O'Dea, Home Manager at The OrchardsIt has been our absolute privilege to support dad, we have spent many hours with him entertaining us and making us laugh with his great sense of humour. Thank you for your kind words I will be sure to share them with the team.

My mother in law has been at the home for a short while and in that time all the staff have been amazing, couldn’t have wished for better. Mum became palliative and not only was mum cared for we were too. The staff were so gentle and caring right upto when she left the home

While being a resident at the care home, my husband has received the best care possible from a team of extremely friendly and hard-working carers. My only less than excellent review is the lack of communication facilities, i.e. technology. This would have made it easier to contact my husband during
the extended period of lockdowns last year.
Reply from Ruth O'Dea, Home Manager at The OrchardsThank you for the review and kind words, hopefully, now he has a phone this will support with communication. We are always looking for ways to improve our service and appreciate you taking the time to offer some ideas. Thank you for your support last year with the garden, it was very much appreciated.

Apart from the excellent personal care at the Orchards, I must congratulate them for the wide range of entertainment which is provided both in and out of the home. This is so important and can make a big difference to the mental health of my mum. She is very happy to be in your care. I would like to
thank all the staff who have worked so hard to keep everyone safe during the pandemic and not only safe, but content also. I feel like part of the family when I visit and a big shout out to the staff on the reception desk, both are so welcoming and very pleasant always. Also, big thanks to our lovely manager, who is very approachable and lovely. I don’t know all members of staff by name yet, but suffice to say they are all so wonderful and caring. I wouldn’t want my mum to be anywhere else. Thank you all.
Reply from Ruth O'Dea, Home Manager at The OrchardsDear Linda, thank you for such a lovely review, I will be sure to pass this on to the team. It is a pleasure to share time with both you and Mum and to know we are making a difference. I very much look forward to seeing you at our next quiz.

My mother has been very well looked after at The Orchards for the past four years. The staff are so good to her and seem to have infinite patience. They always make me feel very welcome and are very good at updating me on my mother's health and well being which has been very good, particularly during
the past two years, when visiting has been limited, due to Covid. The home is kept very clean and the food always looks and smells very appetising. The garden is a very pleasant space for the residents to enjoy during the summer months. The activities team come up with some good ideas to keep the residents occupied.
Reply from Ruth O'Dea, Home Manager at The OrchardsDear Rachel, thank you for the review. Mum's smiling face always brightens our day and we consider it an honour to support Mum and be there for you both. I will pass on your comments to the team.

The Orchards Nursing staff have always contacted me if there are any concerns about my mother. It took a while for my Mum to settle and it took a while for me to understand their way of working. My Mum had never wanted to go to a home so the environment has been very challenging for her. They have treated
her with dignity and respect.

Since my Mother moved to The Orchards 18 months ago, we have had complete peace of mind knowing that she is in safe hands. The staff are really person-centred, warm, friendly and approachable. The team have a wealth of knowledge and experience in caring for elderly residents and information is shared
with us on a regular basis. Mum is offered a wide range of daily activities and her dignity and choices are respected. During covid, they have kept Mum and all the residents safe doing their utmost to maintain safe visiting in line with government guidance. We feel extremely lucky that Mum is being cared for at the Orchards.

My dear friend was extremely well looked after at The Orchards. She was always treated with dignity and respect by all the staff who cared for her. She moved from another care home where she had been very unhappy and immediately felt at home there. The staff involved her in activities and were often
popping into her room for a chat so she never felt lonely. She was visited by a hairdresser regularly and even had her finger and toenails painted. Little touches meant a lot to her. The Orchards has a warm cosy feel to it, a home from home and l would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone looking for a suitable care home for their loved ones.

The Orchards cared for my friend for the last 18 months and I cannot thank them enough for the care and compassion all the staff had for not only my friend, but also for me. During the height of the epidemic, they did all they could to keep the residents safe and to ensure, where possible, contact could
be maintained, when safe to do so. She made many friends among the staff, who I felt went above and beyond to ensure that she was well cared for and happy. Any activities organised still included her, even though she was unable to leave her room, as they brought it to her. There was always something going on to keep the residents occupied. When my time comes, I would be happy to reside there.

I cannot thank The Orchards for the care and compassion that have given and continue to provide for my husband. Since arriving in November 2020, his general health has improved. During my visits, he always appears happy and contented. He joins in with the many activities they provide, and looking on
Facebook at the photographing evidence is lovely! Our children have not seen their Dad for six months, couldn't believe how well he was doing considering all he has been through. The staff are very friendly and helpful and always notify me immediately if there has been a cause for concern.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.676)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.676) out of 10 for The Orchards is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.801 for The Orchards is calculated as follows: ( (145 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 176 Ratings = 4.801
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Orchards is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
