Mum was sent to Pondsmead after a lengthy stay in hospital and limited mobility. She was very worried about going into a care home. Everyone there made her feel very welcome, the carers were super (Actually care) Everything was taken care of. Good nursing and a doctor when needed. Lovely setting in
the countryside. Gradually she has become more mobile, was very sad to leave everyone at Pondsmead but a vacancy had come up at a home more local to where she lived. I think that she still keeps in touch with those that she had befriended.
Reply from Britney Chinnock, General Managers Assistant at Pondsmead Nursing & Residential HomeThank you for such kind words. We enjoyed having your mum here and being able to look after her was a privilege. We aim to do as much as we can here at Pondsmead to make someone's stay, however long it may be, as best as it can. I will pass on all your kind words to the staff and wish your mum the very best at her new home.

My mother was admitted with a terminal condition in September 2022 and was made very welcome from the start immediately attending a musical session. The staff are very friendly and helpful and have been from day one.
Mum's from is more than adequate for her needs. Thankfully, Mum is still with us and
is enjoying her stay at Pondsmead, especially the numerous activities.
All in all, a positive with reassuring management and staff.
Reply from Paula Brown, Home Manager at Pondsmead Nursing & Residential HomeThank you for all your kind words. We strive to provide the best care we can for our residents. Thank you again I will pass on all your lovely comments.

My mum has been a resident in Pondsmead since September 2021. The care of the staff has been wonderful. The way in which staff get to know residents is lovely to see, and the very low turnover of staff has meant my mum has received consistent care from staff who knew her well. Staff are always observant
of privacy - never walking into a room without knocking first - so respectful. One of the standout features for both of us has been the activities coordinator here and all the work she tirelessly and enthusiastically does to ensure stimulating, relevant and interesting events, activities, outings, one-to-one time with different residents, acts of worship, pottery, animals being brought in for residents to hold - the programme is first class and Pondsmead should be extremely proud of their commitment to residents in this area. The ethos of the home is to accommodate a variety of ages and mobility of residents - Mum, at a young 66, settled in really well.
Reply from Paula Brown, Home Manager at Pondsmead Nursing & Residential HomeThank you for your kind words, we always strive to deliver personalized care to our residents and maximize their quality of life, as well as making all of the friends and relatives feel welcome. I will pass on your compliments to the staff, I know they will really appreciate it.

My grandpa was in Pondsmead for over 6 months. He was looked after by very kind staff and he built up some good relationships. When I visited I was made to feel welcome. He had a lovely room and he was fed very well, he really loved the food there especially the home made puddings! The staff went over
and beyond to make him happy.
Reply from Nicki Harrington, Manager at Pondsmead Nursing & Residential HomeThank you for your kind words. We are glad your granpa enjoyed the food and the home made puddings. We are also happy to hear that you felt welcomed as we strive to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. I will relay your lovely comments to the staff.

My dear Mum was transferred to Pondsmead Nursing Home on 25.4.22 from hospital. Mum required nursing care. On arrival, Mum asked her nurse where her husband was? I was shocked by the nurse's reply, she told Mum "this is your home now". I was so upset when the nurse told me this, my poor Mum should have
been told that her husband was coming to see her the next day as he was. My Dad is also very upset by the nurse's comment. How absolutely awful to tell someone with vascular dementia this. I would always explain to Mum any changes, which I did but of course, sometimes she would forget. I don't feel my Mum was cared for correctly during her very short stay, by the 1.5.22 she was rushed back to hospital in an ambulance. She was extremely dehydrated when I arrived, (only hours later) her diabetes had not been controlled at all. This home hadn't cared for my dear Mum in the way we had hoped, care standards fall far below any Mum received within the NHS.
Reply from Julia Rea, Regional Manager at Pondsmead Nursing & Residential HomeThank you for taking the time to leave a review regarding your recent experience in Pondsmead. I am very sorry to learn of your experience and can understand how upsetting this has been for you.
I want to assure you that we take these concerns very seriously and this is not the resident or family experience we strive for.
An investigation into this matter was undertaken and I would like to reassure you that the general health and welfare of your Mum was monitored and recorded and timely referrals were made to appropriate health and social care professionals as necessary during the short time your mum was with us and that there is a competent and capable nurse in charge of the home at all times who has the medical knowledge, skill and experience necessary to care for your mum and the residents for which our home is registered.
I understand your confidence in our service has been eroded but do hope this provides you with some reassurance.
For your experience, I sincerely apologise.

I am very happy with Pondsmead - it is always clean and always well organised. The staff are all lovely, polite, friendly and kind.
The same staff have been there since my mum arrived a year ago; which is always a good sign.

My mother has been in the home since July 2018, she is cared for by excellent staff, with friendly care. She is kept clean and tidy, as is her room and other facilities. She is happy there and enjoys the entertainment. The food is of an excellent standard as I know first hand as I occasional join her
for lunch, in the dining room, which is like some first-class hotel.

Excellent care, staff very helpful, friendly, efficient. Pondsmead Nursing & Residential Home interiors are clean well maintained, the house has many interesting historical features which are well maintained, clean and very atmospheric, many many fabulous features. The entrance hallway is truly spectacular,
stairs are beautiful, the mosaic floorings of mid to late Victorian style, the stained glass windows in the front of the building are beautiful examples of glassmaking skills of the period. I believe that house was built for the then owners of the Oakhill brewery. Pondsmead benefits from a doctors surgery and dispensary in the grounds less than a hundred yards away. Catering is varied and of a good standard, some staff live on the premises, they have a much larger capacity for residents than currently present.
Overall a pleasant stay was enjoyed. Nothing quite like being in your own home.

Emergency respite was needed for one week only. The Manager visited at home and was very friendly and approachable. He was reassuring to my mother and promised her she would be able to have her hair done at the nursing home - which was important to her. He was true to his word and this did take place.
I found staff friendly and helpful and my mum said she would be happy to return again if need be.

Pondsmead’s care and nursing staff are mainly European and many are very well educated and speak very good English. There are no concerns regarding their ability to understand residents' needs although sometimes their English diction can be misunderstood by elderly residents more familiar with local
dialogue.
The majority of carers are kind and thoughtful and do their best to accommodate the needs of residents requiring exceptional assistance. The nursing staff are very good and offer professional, clinical help without the assistance of district nurses. Medical assistance is available on a routine and emergency basis from the local GP surgery situated in the same grounds as the care home.
The senior staff and management are professional, approachable and responsive. On the whole, we were happy with the care and professional attention that was given to our elderly and disabled relatives.

I was in need of respite care for my father who was recovering from a broken hip. Pondsmead was suggested and following an informative and comprehensive tour of the facility, I arranged for his placement the following week. My father, who has since recovered and now moved on, claims;
"The staff were
all very friendly, to say the least, and would go that extra mile to meet any requests made!"
"This made my stay at Pondsmead most enjoyable"
"I will endeavour to pay a visit to Pondsmead to renew old friendships"
That he made these statements are a testimony to the quality of the care he experienced, well done Pondsmead; thank you.

Management and staff couldn't have been more helpful in the short stay of our step-grandmother - one week and two days.
Though some staff were under training, they were attentive within their experience and more than willing to be of assistance.
Food was perhaps the only disappointment, which is possibly
unavoidable when 'bulk' catering.
The manager was extremely helpful and supportive to both the resident and 'us' the family.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.568)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.568) out of 10 for Pondsmead Nursing & Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.618 for Pondsmead Nursing & Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (138 Excellents x 5) + (59 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 207 Ratings = 4.618
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Pondsmead Nursing & Residential Home is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 76 registered maximum number of service users is 15.2, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
