My mother was sent here from the hospital after an operation to repair a fracture to her leg as she required intensive physio and rehabilitation and we were assured she would receive the best care. On arrival she was taken to a tiny room at the back of the hospital, the bed wasn't a hospital bed so could not accommodate her injury and with no side gates. When my mum said she couldn't manage this bed as she would fall out she was told that's OK as they put a mat down if she fell, just what she needs with a fractured leg! The toilet seat was broken and not high for her disability. She was treated as a dementia patient which is what the home seems to be for. A few of the staff had no idea how to care for orthopaedic patients and the home is certainly not equipped for rehabilitation. I collected her from there immediately.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to write a Carehome Review for us and we take all feedback very seriously. Please be assured that all of the ICT beds in the Home are profiling beds (hospital beds) and bed rails can be used on these beds. We would always explore the least restrictive...

Every time my husband and I visited the home, the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them and my aunt's last months were great joy. The activities offered were first class.

My mother has recently passed away at Avon Court. She had been there for 3 1/2 years and had dementia. It was a difficult time, especially the last 12 months with the coronavirus. During this time it was made more bearable knowing how much the staff cared for her. The two activity ladies particularly were brilliant with mum and we cannot thank them enough. Thet made a huge difference to Mum and to us. The two activity ladies also came to the funeral which was appreciated.

Avon Court is a lovely home. It is caring, the staff are helpful and have a heart for the residents, provide great activities for residents to be part of eg monthly theme. Mother enjoys it here and says the food is good. Everything seems to be well organised although communication with family could be better.

I am so grateful to all the wonderful staff at Avon Court who have been caring for my dad over the last 6 weeks. They have treated him with such kindness and have taken such good care of him. They go out of their way to make sure that he is as happy as he can be. It's wonderful to see the entertainment provided each day and to see photos of dad smiling. I appreciate that everyone always has time to talk on the phone to keep me updated on his progress. We are very happy with the care provided each day at Avon Court.

My mother was admitted into Avon Court in March to the end of care section. The staff are very caring and friendly. Mother has enjoyed being looked after and the breakfasts. I have been one of the lucky ones and I am allowed to visit taking temperature, filling in forms and wearing protective gear. I would like to thank the staff for all their care.

I have been going into Avon Court for many years as a visiting Christian Minister and was pleased when my mother was offered a bed there. Staff are always friendly and polite, premises are always clean and tidy (no bad smells!) and a good range of activities on offer to keep residents motivated and engaged.

My mother is there for physio after a stroke. She is well looked after and likes the staff. Weekends feel a little flat over there, few staff about and nothing going on.

Reply from Diane Kerwin, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Avon Court Care Home

Thank-you for taking the time to write a review and we are pleased to learn that your mother is well looked after and likes the staff. The NHS physio and rehabilitation team works Monday-Friday and is separate to the home's staff. However, we will look at how we can enhance further what is offered at weekends by the Avon Court team.

Mum is really happy and settled at Avon Court. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and give mum wonderful individual attention and care. The entertainment is excellent with singing and craft activities which are well thought out. I attended one session of a singing activity and all residents and staff and visitors had a very pleasant, fun afternoon plus exhausting with all the dancing and clapping.
