  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.596 for Miranda House Care Home with Nursing - Specialist Dementia is calculated as follows: ( (37 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 57 Ratings = 4.596

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.368 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Miranda House Care Home with Nursing - Specialist Dementia is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 13.6 positive Reviews (68 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 5 Reviews ÷ 13.6 Target = 0.368

My grandmother is a relatively new resident at Miranda House. The move was quite sudden but everyone has been kind, welcoming and helpful.

It would benefit my grandmother greatly if all personnel wore their name badges. It’s a simple way to help those with dementia, particularly when in a new and unfamiliar environment.

The food prepared for residents has consistently been to a high standard and the range of food is very sensible indeed. However, the cutlery and crockery doesn’t always get cleaned properly by the dishwasher. The opportunity to eat privately in her room is a real bonus.

We have noted that the ambient noise is louder than expected (e.g. doors closing or staff calling out to each other from one end of a corridor to another). The doors could benefit from a spot of WD40 or some sandpaper and colleagues could stand closer so they don’t have to shout.

To conclude, we have been impressed with the care and support offered by Miranda House.

As soon as you enter the building the security is good, with antiseptic gel available. The staff are welcoming and friendly and will find the resident you wish to visit.
All staff will answer any queries and if they are unable to do so, will find the person who can.
Staff ask for background information if it has not already been provided and are polite and friendly if using the telephone for such occasions.
There is no stress on us when enquiring about 'our residents' progress and situation.
We have been informed immediately when any incidents occurred, fortunately, these have been minor and in no was reflect on the standard of the care provided and have not been unexpected.

My mother has been at Miranda House since 2012, at that time she was able to do much more. Went out on the mini bus to garden centre's and sometimes to the seaside and lunches she likes the music and playing bingo. It is always clean and staff are always there to help.

At the end of November, the family were at their wit's end. Miranda House was amazing. They saw us within less than an hour of our phone call. The staff (everyone) have been amazing. We were reassured and nothing seemed too much trouble. My mother in law had never been parted from her husband (66 years married) but she knows he is getting the best care and he is safe, well and happy. The people are so so kind and it's a pleasure to visit the home.

All staff are mostly friendly and they can't do enough for mum. The home is very clean, safe and tidy for all the patients. I can't thank the staff enough for their dedication and care that they show.

Job Title: Home Manager

Description:

As Home Manager of Miranda House, I lead my compassionate and professional Care Team in providing the highest standards of specialist nursing and dementia care for up to 65 elderly people.

Before moving into the private sector in 2007, I worked for a number of years in the NHS, predominantly in surgical roles. Following my move into elderly and dementia care as a Registered General Nurse, I held a variety of positions including Unit Manager and Clinical Team Leader.

Having initially joined Caring Homes in 2012 as Deputy Manager of Miranda House, I was promoted to Home Manager early in 2013. I felt that the Caring Homes philosophy aligned well with my own beliefs on care provision and I am intent on ensuring that all residents of Miranda House continue to receive the high levels of care and protection they are entitled to.

Within my role, I am particularly passionate about empowering my Care Team and ensuring that they are given every opportunity to learn and grow in their profession.

I hold a Diploma in Person Centred Dementia Care, and think that training is a key factor in delivering truly person centred care.

I’m originally from Scotland, and enjoy life in the Cotswolds as the environment and communities here remind me of home. Having spent over 20 years in South Cerney, I moved to Royal Wootton Bassett in 2011, and have enjoyed exploring the local area ever since.

I enjoy spending quality time with my family when away from work and have a passion for travel; I’ve visited countries across the globe including Canada, Poland, and America.
