We decided as a family that we loved the look of Abbey Rose Care Home on given a tour by the care home manager. Lovely, welcoming staff, very clean and lovely rooms for residents. Our Mom has been in there for 5 weeks now and we have to say how brilliant all the staff are with the residents and the
visitors. They go above and beyond to support your family and your loved one. The activity team staff are also amazing and ensure all of our loved ones are included if they can and want to take part in any daily activities that take place at the home. Nothing is too much trouble and they will always answer any queries or questions about your loved ones in their care. It's so lovely and clean on all floors (ground, 1st, 2nd) and you will always see cleaning taking place regularly which is reassuring to see with the covid situation. I would definitely recommend this care home for the care of your loved one and reassurance for all the family too. They also have a beautiful garden/patio area on the grounds.

Mum had a month's stay at Abbey Rose Care Home when she came out of hospital. I can't praise all the staff enough from the cleaners to the laundry staff, reception staff, carers and nursing staff. Communication with us as a family was excellent. Mum progressed more than we thought she could. Mum seemed
so settled and happy here, she liked all the staff very much and was always laughing at the little stories the staff shared with us about Mum and her day. Another key point in all the staff seemed happy in their work, professional, informative and caring.

The living environment for residents is second to none. It is always spotless, and throughout the Covid period, I have never once felt my Mother's safety, or indeed my own, jeopardised when visiting. It is clear that the Manager of the home is outstanding, well supported by all staff, and clearly valued.
The home have sufficient resources to do their job well, and these resources are invested in the services. Duty of care, again, is excellent. The staff, from Reception to Nursing/Care personnel are very helpful and considerate, and very easy to contact. As a family, we are confident that our Mother is in a caring environment, treated with respect and her dignity is foremost. We also feel confident that her mental and physical well-being is considerate, and as she has just celebrated her 90th Birthday, we are more than happy that her end days will be spent at Abbey Rose.
Reply from Lawrence Padolina, Home Manager at Abbey Rose Care HomeThank you Veronica for your kind words, they are much appreciated. You have lifted our spirits in a very challenging time. I will share your thanks with my staff who, I agree, work hard to ensure our family at Abbey Rose are all well-loved and cared for.

Without a doubt the best care home I have been in to. Staff were unfailingly nice, efficient, and courteous. The treatment my mum received was first class and to be truthful there is not a single thing about the home that I can fault. The building and the room were beautiful and spotlessly clean. They
ensured that all of mom's valuable items were returned to us showing a very high degree of dignity and honesty.

My Mother has been in this home for over two years now. My Sister and I have found the home to take care of my mother extremely well both with her medical care and her overall care for her general wellbeing. We cannot fault the care given to her by the carers and members of the team at Abbey Rose Care
Home. We are kept informed of everything, as and when any issues occur with Mum's health the doctor is contacted and we are informed of what the issue is, what is to be done about it, and kept updated as things progress. We were very unhappy with things at her previous residence and this home has given us complete confidence that her care is 100%. Since arrival, she has not had any falls and this had become almost a daily happening and we are therefore very grateful to the home taking great care of her with the various issues she specifically has blindness, is very deaf, diabetic, and with dementia - we thank you for giving us peace of mind.
Reply from Eva Recio Dominguez, Home Manager at Abbey Rose Care HomeThank you so very much for your encouraging words, we truly appreciate you taking the time to share such lovely comments and these will be shared with the team to motivated them to continue doing what they do so well. It is great to know that we have been able to keep your Mum safe and comfortable and that you feel reassured about the standard of care your Mum receives.

Under the outstanding leadership of the manager, all the staff are professional, personal and passionate about the care and support given to both residents and their families. The approach during Covid has been outstanding in trying to both protect all the residents and staff while at the same time
trying to keep families connected and where possible in contact with their relatives.

During very difficult circumstances, our concerns and queries were dealt with promptly and efficiently. Covid-19 has brought many challenges for families of residents, it has been very difficult not to visit but there is reassurance in the knowledge that Mom is being cared for and kept safe.

Mom has previously stayed at Abbey Rose on three separate occasions with very positive outcomes but her last respite stay was very different. Mom's dementia had deteriorated, the staff, we feel, were unable to manage her more challenging condition. The safeguarding put in place to monitor her was inadequate
and was able to abscond, but luckily returned safely by a member of the public. It did mean that Abbey Rose had to review procedures, one being, to ensure that other vulnerable residents were relocated within the home to reduce a similar risk. We had been told that they would not accept Mom again and then told this might be reviewed but we're not so sure they can meet her needs. Also, a number of Mom's personal belongings were not returned even after reminders. Have seen comments regarding the handling of Mom being able to abscond have not been complementary and we would agree with what was said. We would not say, do not send your loved one there. We are only putting forward our experience.
Reply from Eva Recio Dominguez, Home Manager at Abbey Rose Care HomeThank you for your feedback and for taking the time to speak to me (the home manager) on the phone recently regarding your experience last year. While your mother was with us in the past, we too have thoroughly enjoyed her company, our aim is always to put the wellbeing and safety of our residents and staff first, as you mentioned we promptly ensured that corrective action was taken at the time of your mom’s stay. However, if your mom’s needs change, please do not hesitate to contact us and hopefully, we would be able to offer you the respite that you so deservedly need and a safe haven for your mother.

Beautiful care home photos, in my opinion, do not do it justice. It's so lovely along with the staff. The garden room was full of bright sunshine. The reception area is bright and airy with lovely touches to detail. Staff are so accommodating nothing to much trouble in these unreal times. Surrounding
gardens are beautiful - plenty of care spaces - excellent. Well done to everyone. I know my mom's getting well cared for. Thank you.

My sister is under care at Abbey Rose - I live in Hampshire and have to deal with a good deal of her affairs remotely, which can be difficult at times, but many many thanks to the wonderful receptionist today, who, without any prompting, helped my sister, who was having a lot of difficulties with her
phone - my sister was going to send the phone back to me by post for me to sort out, so the kind receptionist took ownership of the problem - not only did she use her initiative to phone the network provider, she finally resolved it! Was very impressed by her help and extremely grateful so a big thank you again!

My mum was one of the first residents of the new facility and was made to feel at home immediately. Her accommodation and surroundings are everything we wished for her. It’s clean, bright and has a very happy feel about it. The relationship between my mum and her carers is lovely to see. She loves them
and they love her. They treat her exactly as we would. She can be a little difficult at times but they seem to know how to get to her better side! She always looks clean and tidy and they see to it that she has regular hairdressing appointments and some kind soul even does her nails! The coronavirus has, of course, changed things but throughout, I have felt that the care and welfare of the residents was put first and in my opinion has been exemplary. The new visiting facilities are sheer genius and enable us all to be safe. A huge thank you to all the staff for the extra mile they’ve gone to keep up morale in these very difficult times. If mom’s happy then so are we!

Dad became a resident of Abbey Rose in June 2020 as this was the best place for his needs. The family were all made to feel very welcome by the friendly staff, and we felt reassured that he was being well looked after in these most difficult of times. We had heard of lots of nice activities that the
home arranges for residents, but unfortunately due to Covid, dad wasn't able to experience these. We would definitely recommend Abbey Rose Care Home to anyone who requires the care.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.862)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.862) out of 10 for Abbey Rose Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.862 for Abbey Rose Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (255 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 289 Ratings = 4.862
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbey Rose Care Home is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 85 registered maximum number of service users is 17, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Abbey Rose Manager Joined: 2019

A nurse from the Philippines, I completed my BSc in Nursing in 1995.

I started as a volunteer nurse in a Community hospital for 6 months before I went to Libya, where I worked for almost 3 years as an A&E and ICU nurse. During this time, I got married and our first daughter was born in 1998.

Arriving in the UK in early 2001, I worked for BUPA, moving up the ranks to Charge Nurse, Unit Lead and eventually Deputy Manager. After 18 years, I decided to look for a company that offered further progression, and I found MACC Care. In February 2019, I joined Abbey Rose as one of the Clinical Leads and was promoted to Home Manager in August 2021.

My wife is also a nurse, and together we have four daughters. When I’m not working, I love sports, especially basketball. My favourite food apart from our national dish (Adobo) is sushi, curry, and nothing beats barbeque spare ribs in barbeque sauce!
