My father moved to Abbeyrose in Dec 18 due to ill health and losing his mobility. Whilst it is not an easy decision to make placing a parent in care, like many people nowadays who are working full time and have children at school it becomes a necessity.

Two years ago I first visited Abbeyrose and met with the manager following dads stroke however he was able to continue his independence to some extent so I didn’t need a place for him then, immediately I took to the manager she was warm and caring and I felt comforted that dad would be well cared for when that time came. So I was very pleased when I visited last year she was still there.

Dad has been there three months now and it is a huge weight lifted off my mind to know he is very well looked after. I have met all the staff as I visit regularly, nurses, carers, cook, maintenance, laundry staff are all fantastic.

There’s a really good ethos there, well done all.

Over the last eighteen months, I have witnessed kindness and concern from all the staff towards my dad as well as towards us, his relatives and friends. The staff respect dad's privacy and dignity. I never worry about dad all the time like I had to when he lived on his own, as I know if there is a problem and the staff are concerned they will call me, or my brother. Dad receives excellent individualised care that meets his changing needs.

I guess what I want to say is that nothing is ever too much for the staff even when they are really busy. All of them, the nurses, care assistants, admin staff, laundry man, cleaners, kitchen staff, everyone. Including the managers for running the home well. They all keep smiling and are truly professional.

Many times we are quick to criticise but slow to applaud good work. I applaud the staff and thank them from the bottom of my heart for the hard work they all do. I just wanted you to know that there is good care going on.

I couldn't have wished for a better place for my mother to spend her last days. Even though she was very ill, the staff and nurses treated her with great care and compassion right to the end. They also managed the final arrangments quickly and with sensitivity, which was such a help at a very difficult time. My sincere thanks to the nursing staff and management on behalf of all the family.

The staff and management at Abbeyrose Nursing Home have been excellent from the first day mam was a resident. All have been very friendly and caring to my mother but equally have taken the time to talk to her relatives when ever we visit. Nothing is too much trouble for them and we think mom is responding well to the high quality of care she is receiving.

Lawrence Padolina
Lawrence PadolinaJob Title:Abbey Rose ManagerJoined: 2019

A nurse from the Philippines, I completed my BSc in Nursing in 1995.

I started as a volunteer nurse in a Community hospital for 6 months before I went to Libya, where I worked for almost 3 years as an A&E and ICU nurse. During this time, I got married and our first daughter was born in 1998.

Arriving in the UK in early 2001, I worked for BUPA, moving up the ranks to Charge Nurse, Unit Lead and eventually Deputy Manager. After 18 years, I decided to look for a company that offered further progression, and I found MACC Care. In February 2019, I joined Abbey Rose as one of the Clinical Leads and was promoted to Home Manager in August 2021.

My wife is also a nurse, and together we have four daughters. When I’m not working, I love sports, especially basketball. My favourite food apart from our national dish (Adobo) is sushi, curry, and nothing beats barbeque spare ribs in barbeque sauce!
